I was very nervous about traveling to Mexico by myself for vertical sleeve surgery. From the time I arrived in San Antonio until the day I left it was the most pleasant, wonderful experience I have ever had. Everyone from Susan the coordinator, Rosie our driver, to the hospital staff, the people of Piedras Negras and ESPECIALLY Dr. Alvarez were better than any US facility or doctor I have ever had to deal with. The surgery was without any complications and I seriously had no pain at all and was up and walking the afternoon of my surgery. This entire process has changed my outlook on life, changed my life and given me the tool I need to be a healthy and happy person. I am so very thankful to Dr. Alvarez and his amazing staff for making this experience so incredible for me. I honestly do not believe I would have trusted anyone else with this surgery and I will sing his praises and recommend him and Endobariatric to any and every one that is looking for a tool to help them with their weight loss. I am 1 month out and have lost 40 pounds and have had no complications what-so-ever. Dr. Alvarez truly changed my life.

I am not the type of person to write reviews however, because I read so many reviews when doing my research on having surgery in Mexico I only thought it was fair that I help others if I can in their decision making. I live in Florida and I have health insurance but it does not cover weight loss surgeries my cost would have been like 20K. Therefore, one day started surfing the web on this topic and came across a few Dr's in Mexico doing this procedure. At first I was like heck no what am I out of my mind? However, the more I researched the more I was like ok maybe I can do this. I narrowed it down to two Dr's one which was Dr. Guillermo Alvarez and another reputable Dr. in Tijuana. However, I must say the minute I saw Dr. Alvarez in his you tube video's I was confident that I had found my Dr. I suddenly felt a peace of mind. His English is perfect. I friended him on Facebook and became part of his support group. I messaged him twice and had a response within minutes. Now tell me what Dr. here in the states does that? None that I know. Well he's more pricey than the other surgeon and the other surgeon was about 2K less so I booked surgery, gave deposit and bought airline tickets with the other dr because I knew he was also good and was less. The minute I booked I regretted it so much so that I cancelled and lost my deposit and went with Dr. Alvarez. Always follow your gut. Let me tell you best decision of my life! I had surgery May 12, 2015 have lost 32 lbs to date. No complications at all! Susan his coordinator is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had some questions here and there and she has always been there to answer them. BY the way, Dr. Alvarez only does 3 surgeries a day which most including the other Dr. I almost chose do like 10 or even more a day (not good). He came twice a day to visit me at the hospital and so did another physician. I loved the fact that I was in a hospital not a center. I was in the hospital for 2 days and medicine was included in price. I could be here all day praising Dr. A and Susan. Anyone thinking about doing this do your research but I can tell you I did mine I checked every single website and found nothing negative about Dr. A. I reached out to his patients through facebook and everyone said positive things. Real patients. I bought his book. Saw all his videos. I have friends here in the States who have had this surgery and have had complications and knew nothing about complications or what to expect. I guess because they were being operated here they didn't research. However, because I was being operated in Mexico I researched a lot so I knew what to expect and what I was supposed to do. Dr. Alvarez sends you emails in all phases right after surgery so you are never alone in this journey. I am so happy I did this. I really wish I would have known about him and Susan before because this is the best gift I have ever given myself. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 1month prior to surgery and had to take metformin however, since surgery I have not needed to take medicine not once. This is not a miracle cure. It's a tool and if you are serious about losing weight and have tried everything else then this is the best route to go. I hope I have helped someone who may be thinking about this but is scared. Don't be scared. In my research, I found out Dr. Alvarez has done more of these surgeries than the Dr. I was going to go with in Miami that insurance pays for. Less time under anesthesia than the Dr. I would have chosen here in Miami if my insurance covered or if I could have afforded out of pocket. Therefore, do your research and trust me if you do you will choose Dr. Alvarez.

Having Dr. Guillermo Alvarez perform vertical sleeve gastric surgery for me was the best investment / decision that I have ever made in my life. In his office, I remember discussing my fears as to my rapid increase in weight. And I remember exactly what he said to me concerning the improvements to my health and the success that patients have experienced as a result of having the surgery. I have to be honest. It's hard for me to doubt a man that has performed over 7,000 procedures. On May 19, 2015, I had Dr. Alvarez perform the surgery. And I have now lost 40 pounds in 4 weeks already. I don't feel any side effects. And I am back on my job as a journeyman mechanic doing the same physical work that I was doing before I even had the surgery. Dr. Alvarez and his staff are wonderful!! He removed my lap band a year ago and I had a great experience!! I was scared with the whole mexico thing and friends and family would tell me not to go. All I could say is boy were they WRONG!! I had a great experience. After my lap band was removed I wanted the sleeve really bad. My employer had changed insurance and it was something that would be covered and I was going to move forward with Dr. Patel and it only took one visit to realize that I was making a mistake he didn't take the time to hear me explain that Dr. Alvarez had removed the band my visit was about 9 minutes total. So I said no way!!! I emailed Dr. Alvarez and set the date for my surgery!!! After my first experience with Dr. Alvarez its going to be hard for any other Doctor in the USA to compete because I know for a fact that Dr. Alvarez has a lot of patients but when I email him or text him he replies making me feel like I am the only patient he has!! All his staff along with his surgical team !! Great Doctor Great experience!!!

Dr. Alvarez and his staff were amazing! From the time we arrived in Eagle Pass Texas to when Rosy pick us up the morning of surgery I was never nervous even though this was my first surgery. Susan George is the patient coordinator. She answered every single question I had, she even listened to my concerns and encouraged me to talk to my family doctor. I know I can pick up the phone and at a moments notice she is there. Dr. Alvarez and Dr. Rosales both came to my room several times to check on me. The nursing staff were there if I needed them. The hospital was very clean. You may ask why Mexico? Why Dr. Alvarez? Well for me I had weighted over 10 years for the right moment, and when my family doctor said he knew of people who had used Dr. Alvarez and how successful them had been and the level of care they received, I knew this was my moment! Would I go to Mexico again...Absolutely! I have lost 49 pounds in the last 8 weeks and I could not be happier.

My mom used to make me feel better about my weight by telling me I was "just a little fluffy" when I was 30 pounds overweight in high school. That I was "kinda plumpy" at 60 pounds overweight in college. Then she said, "Maybe you should talk to Dr. Alvarez." when I was 90 pounds overweight and looking to start graduate school.

Dr. A performed a VSG on my mother in 2012. She went from 310 pounds to 155 in a little over a year with no fuss, no pain, no problems. She looked 10 years younger, and I have never seen her so happy! To be honest, I was a little jealous of how much better she looked in skinny jeans than me!

I thought, "Great for her! She needed to lose a large amount of weight to be healthy...and she did it! Way to go Mom!" I started to think maybe I should have a surgery to solve my "little weight problem". In my mind, I was only a little "plump" at 230 pounds and 5'3". I could do this myself. I don't need a surgery to fix what I can fix on my own. I HAVE THE POWER...don't I?

The truth is I probably could have lost the weight on my own, but how long would I have waited to do that? How many times would I fall off the wagon, get frustrated, and take out my frustration on some Ben and Jerry's only to feel extremely guilty immediately after and "punish" myself with food restrictions...until I fell off again? How long was I willing to wait to feel good about myself? To run without feeling like my skin was pulled too tight after just a few minutes? To stop untagging unflattering photos that my friends posted to Facebook?

I decided I was finished waiting to be healthy and happy with my body. Within a month, I was in Mexico for Dr. Alvarez to sleeve me. My mom had done a TON of research before she went, she’s a nurse. My grandmother went with her, she’s a bit…particular…about everything... They both raved about Dr. A and his staff, so I went. Let's just say the experience definitely went way beyond my expectations. Dr. A and his team are a well-oiled machine….a very friendly, attentive, well-oiled machine!! I was completely comfortable, well informed, and well taken care of. I have zero negative things to even. Seriously, everything went perfectly smoothly. I felt completely comfortable. Wait...one exception: I fainted when they had to get blood to do the preop lab work, but I always feel faint when I try to give blood LOL. They were very attentive and gentle with me because they saw I was nervous. They simply took me back to my room and sent the anesthesiologist to knock me out so I didn't have to watch them try again to get their samples. When I woke up, it was over. I knew immediately that I had made the right decision, and I haven’t doubted that since.

I am now nearly a year post-op. I have lost 82.2 pounds. I’m 5’3” I weigh 156 pounds and I'm thinking, I’ll lose another 15 or so and see how I feel. My face doesn’t look like a tomato when I work out…it does this really pretty blushy glow thing that I love! OMG me and skinny jeans...BFFs….actually me and clothes in general are BFFs!
I feel great! I feel great about myself! I think I look pretty great! Most importantly… I think choosing to get started now, choosing Dr. A those were great decisions.

I am tremendously grateful for his work on my mom and on me. I literally have nothing but positive things to say about their work, prices, and just them as people. I'm just so thankful! and I'm not "fluffy" anymore!!! =D

Dr. Alvarez and his Team were EXCEPTIONAL............I have NEVER been so TOTALLY pleased with a Dr. and his Team and procedure. Everything about going to Mexico and the Myths are all silly. This was a totally professional , and clean Hospital and Staff. So MUCH more ATTENTIVE and caring than any other Facility I have been in. Dr. Alvarez TRULY cares about his patients and their health and success. I REGRET that I didn't do this 10 years ago. I was sleeved on 4-9-15 after being turned down by my insurance, I found Dr. Alvarez and he was the answer to my prayers. It has been a month now and I have already lost 23 lbs, and I am just so very happy, and ecstatic. I have so much more energy, and JUST FEEL GREAT!!
Dr. Alvarez is such a Wonderfully Kind and Caring Person as well as ALL of his Nurses, and Staff!! I was NEVER ever uncomfortable with the fact that I was in Mexico, there was never any fear. I have told my Sister about this, and after seeing my results and hearing about my WONDERFUL experience with Dr. Alvarez she NOW has an Appointment with Dr. Alvarez on 6-29-15. I will be going down with her for her support, as well as to see Dr Alvarez once again to give him a PERSONAL update on Me.
