I had my surgery on 06/01/2017 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mexico. I have lost 26 lbs so far and I feel great. From the moment I arrived pre-op to the Hotel, the entire staff was very professional, helpful, and very kind. The Hotel was amazing. Very clean. The Hospital stay was very welcoming too. Nurses did their rounds pre and post surgery and were very attentive to my needs. Dr. Alvarez, his staff, and all the nurses were so sweet. Honestly, I can say that I have never had such an amazing experience with surgery as I did in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez and his staff.
I highly recommend Dr. Alvarez if you're thinking about getting Sleeved. You will be in great hands. Honestly, the trip to Mexico was well worth it. Even post-op you're still in great care. You'll still get a visit and follow up at the Hotel by Dr. A and his nurse. Amazing experience!!!

I chose 5 stars for this physician due to the fact that I received a gastric sleeve from him and his amazing team on May 5,2017. I am one month and 6 days from surgery have dropped 53 pounds, dropped a dress size, as a pediatric home health nurse I am suppose to use cribs but as time passed my scrubs no longer fit and I began using stretch pants and t shirts even wearing flip flops instead of tennis shoes because they would hurt my feet. Now I am able to fit into my scrubs and they actually are baggy on me. I have a new lease on life. Prior to having surgery I had a consultation with Dr Alvarez years ago. It was something that I had wanted for a long time just felt it was out of my reach boy was I wrong. I easily was able to finance my surgery and begin the process of preparing my body for this life saving surgery that I have no regrets doing. Many people I knew had already received surgery and one day I saw one of my Facebook friends and former colleague who looked amazing I messaged her what she was doing thinking it was another dad diet she told me she had gone to Dr Alvarez who had performed gastric sleeve surgery on her through viewing her timeline photos I saw her lose weight before my eyes. I knew I had to go back and get my surgery. I was glad I did. Dr Alvarez and his team supported me and my family before, during, and after my surgery. To this day if I have a question I can feel free to contact any member of the endobariatric team and I get an answer back quick. I know that I made the right decision and have. Anew lease on life. If this is something your thinking about and want a trusted physician who isn't going to treat you like a patient but family look into Dr Alvarez his knowledge and experience, books, you tube channel, and testimonials helped me make the best decision of my like and so can you.

As a life long failed dieter, the start of this journey was very daunting, scary and frustrating. That all ended with one email to Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. He and his staff were extremely positive and helpful in obtaining all the info I needed to allay any fear I had of the sleeve surgery, the care and recovery, and in offering continued support with aftercare. He and his staff are as equally learned and professional - if not more so-than most US medical professionals. His personal knowledge and expertise in the VSG procedure by far and large surpasses anyone I spoke to in the Southwest US. My flight to and from Texas was the only portion of the journey that I had to worry about. All else was treated with the same "concierge" treatment one might find on an all inclusive cruise or vacation. After the review of my medical records, I received a personal video message from Dr. A, giving me the news that I was a candidate - and from that moment on, I was "handheld" through journey, including having Dr. A's personal email address and phone number. From then and until now - every question I have had is answered within hours. From the moment the driver picked us up in San Antonio - everything was taken care of and timed perfectly. We crossed the border effortlessly, went straight to the hospital for tests, was then transported and checked into the Holiday Inn Express for a good night's rest. The next morning, transported back and checked into the hospital. Surgery that morning, walking around that afternoon. I even saw my removed portion on snapchat!! The next day, back to the hotel where the doctor and his staff visited us. (BTW, there is a nurse assigned to you at the hotel too.) The next day, a 10 minute cross at the border, back to San Antonio and then home. This procedure was half the cost of what I was quoted in the States and the care I received was equal in every manner.
Before you make your final decision - look up Endobariatric.com and then call - you won't regret it!

I'm like everyone else on this page. I have been overweight my entire life. I've gone up and down the scales. I have wanted to have surgery for a long time but insurance would never cover it. My sister suggested I try Mexico. My first reaction was a resounding No! It's way too dangerous. She told me she knew of some fellow nurses who went and had great results so I decided to do some research. I read and read and read. The more I read there was one surgeon I kept coming back to and that was Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. I could not find one negative word about this man. Believe me.. I tried. My husband and I decided to contact
him. I spoke with his assistant Susan and liked her from Hello. I filled out my medical information and emailed it. Before the day was out Dr. A. sent a video email back to me. He was talking directly to me. That got an A+ from me! My decision was made. We made all of the necessary arrangements and set our date.
The big day finally arrived. I can tell you from my heart that I have never been treated better from the moment my husband and I
arrived. Dr. A. and his staff are phenomenal! My surgery was successful with very little pain. I had a small hernia that he repaired as well. The weight is melting off! The hospital was spotless. I could almost see myself in the floor tiles. The nurses were great. Dr. Alvarez is not only a great surgeon but a very fine man who cares deeply for his
patients. He is always assessable to his patients even years later. He answers all of my crazy questions even if I've asked him the same ones before. Lol. The Facebook support group is wonderful. The support and encouragement is like no other.. I absolutely love his patient assistant Brandi!! Listen people! I can't praise this man and his staff enough for the experience they gave me. If you are considering bariatric sleeve surgery you should seriously consider Dr. Guillermo Alvarez!!!!
Amazing experience! I was treated with the utmost care. From the time I landed in Texas, Dr. Alvarez had a driver waiting on me to take me to the hotel (Holiday Inn Express) in Mexico. The town where the hotel was absolutely safe. Actually, the hotel in Mexico was NICER than the hotel Dr. Alvarez put me up in San Antonio, TX. And the hotel in San Antonio was not bad at all.
The surgery was done in no time. I closed my eyes and 5 mins later I was woke and wondering if they actually performed the surgery. NO PAIN. NO DISCOMFORT. I was up and walking one hour after the surgery. The nurses on his staff gave me round the clock care. Top Notch staff!!
The next day after the surgery, I was walking around with extreme ease and better than the day before.
Four weeks after the surgery, and I was doing great. I felt like a million dollars the day after the surgery. I am sleeping so good that I am waking up before the alarm clock. I am getting good REM sleep every night. I am down 20 lbs... clothes are literally falling off me. I am not winded climbing stairs. Bending over to pick up something from the floor is effortless... tying my shoes in the sitting position and getting up from a low chair or sofa is also effortless.
People have seen me and are inquiring about the surgery and Dr. Alvarez. My cousin that was with me has scheduled to get it done. He is eligible to have it done for free through his insurance company. However, he said, "...although I can get it done for free, it wont be Dr. Alvarez..." He chose to pay out of pocket to ensure that Dr. Alvarez does his surgery. So, we will be back there in July 2017.
Dr. Alvarez has perfected the technique so much so that I literally felt no pain since the surgery. I go to see my primary care to determine if I need to continue to take blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. I am NOT taking any more diabetes medicine.
Lastly, I had my concerns coming to Mexico to get the surgery done. I will tell you with absolute certainty, there is nothing to fear. Dr. Alvarez is not only one of the best in the world, he makes you feel like you are a long time friend. His English is PERFECT as if it were his native language. It is almost as if he were the kid from the neighborhood that you grew up with and became a doctor.
Best decision I made in my life thus far, hands down.

I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on 4/3/2017 and I am doing well. I was hesitant about traveling to Mexico to have surgery, but I had two friends that went to Dr. Alvarez before me and I was able to watch their progress after surgery. I was amazed! I work in the medical field and I can tell you that I have never received as good of care as Dr. Alvarez and his team provided for me!! I have never received that kind of care here in the United States. I have lost 34lbs since surgery and I am doing well. If you are considering bariatric surgery, please let me highly recommend Dr. Alvarez and his amazing team at Endobariatric.com!!!
I am so happy with my choice of using Doctor, and Surgeon Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras Mexico - Endobariatric. The best decision I made 100%. Due to my husband's work situation, I ended up going alone. I had nothing to worry about; Dr. Alvarez and his team took excellent care of me. Prior to leaving, they made sure I had my itinerary and travel accommodations in order. Upon arriving to Piedras Negras by shuttle, I felt very safe; the stores and restaurants are very clean, and the people are very friendly too. I didn't see any shenanigans out on the streets either. I am so glad I made my decision to be seen by Dr. Alvarez 24 hour care from the hospital to the hotel. If I had to do it all over again I would. I had surgery March 21st and as of today I am 28lbs down. Surgery went very well and quick..my incisions healed nicely, easier than my gallbladder surgery I had in the states a few years back. Thank you Dr. Alvarez!

Having Dr. Alvarez perform my VSG was one of the best decisions I have ever made! Both Dr. Alvarez and his staff are exceptional at what they do. The truly treat you like family when you are there. There is no question they cannot answer. From the moment you book your appointment you are given information about the surgery, the staff, the location, the hotels...I mean everything! The care does not stop once you return home either. I traveled alone to Piedras Negras for my surgery and I was nervous and scared to go alone but everyone at Endobariatrics took me under their wing and took the best care of me I could ask for. My recovery was great! I wasn't nervous for long.
If you are on the fence about this process or what doctor to chose, do yourself a favor and chose Dr. Alvarez and the Endobariatric team. I would chose Dr. Alvarez over and over again!
I am from West Texas and I traveled the 3 hours to Piedras Negras for VSG surgery with Dr. Alvarez and his Endobaratric team. I will say that I was just fine when we first arrived. The hotel and staff were very nice. Once checked in my husband and I decided to walk down several blocks on each side of the hotel to see what there was to look at or do. The area was not very tourist friendly. Once back at the hotel we had the Meet and Greet later that evening and all my questions and concerns were addressed. The morning of surgery we arrived at the hospital. I was very nervous because it was not the hospital that was shown in the videos or any of the paperwork. The hospital was old and in an older part of town. Upon entering however it was clean and the staff friendly. I was almost to the point of not having the surgery when the nurses reassured me and just sedated me. When I woke up I was not too sore however I was very sick. I don't take to anesthesia well and I had a hard time getting it out of my system. The day I was released back to the hotel I felt much better. We were taken to the Mexican Market where we were able to purchase things to take back to our family. The entire time in the Endo Van we were cared for, the drivers were always courteous and nice. The nurses went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were addressed. Especially Anali,,, She is awesome!. Dr. Alvarez and his coordinator Susan have always been there for me before and even now several weeks after surgery and I never wait long for them to respond to my e-mails. I highly recommend Endobariatrics for your surgery. I didn't have to jump thru hoops, I didn't have to try diet after diet or see any shrinks to make sure I could do the surgery or have insurance cover it. The cost was reasonable and I was able to finance thru HAF, thanks to the links on Dr. Alvarez's page! Overall it wasn't a scary or bad experience. I was more afraid of the anesthesia than anything else but I NEVER once felt unsafe or in harms way.
