Dr. Guillermo Alvarez is great!! He truly treats you as if you are his only patient. He is very attentive to your needs and takes care of whatever it is. His team or staff is exceptional, they are so sweet and it was great getting to know them. I have nothing bad to say about Dr. A, he is even really good looking!!! I give him a A++++++!!!!!

I have nothing bad to say about the surgeon. He was very patient with me, and that is not an easy thing. He has excellent bedside manner and he didn't kill me.rnrnI wish that there would have been an English speaking nurse at night and that I would have gotten one of the newer rooms. But neither of those affected my treatment or actual surgical experience. I would have been in just as much post-op pain in a new room. :)rnrnAnd yeah, he is pretty cute and he smells nice.

I had a wonderful experience, I read and then reread everything I received from Susan and then talked extensively with Dr. A and Dr. R, everything for me was text book perfect. rnrnDr Alvarez did a great job on Me!rnrnI was able to resume my normal activities on Thursday. My surgery was Monday! To me the experience went so well at times I thought I was dreaming. The hospital was charming, the nurses very professional. Know about 8 words in Mexician, but NO troubles communicating with the night nurses at all. rnrnThe only problem I had was my IV did infiltrate and had to be removed, but since it was 7:30 the next day, I did not have to have it redone. rnrnI would recommend Dr. A Mexico to others in my situation - where no insurance coverage for the VSG.

My first impression of Dr Alvarez was that he seems to be a very genuine and compassionate soul that loves helping others gain a new lease on life. He had a very positive and calming energy. I knew that I was in very good hands. His office was very nice as well as his staff. I felt very informed going into my surgery. He checked in on me several times a day during my stay, and gave very thorough post op teaching. He made sure that we knew that he considers his patients \"family\" and that he encouraged contact during recovery and afterwards. He let us know that we could call anytime that we wished to speak to him. I have nothing but praise regarding my care.

Dr. Alvarez was professional, personal and very compassionate. He takes the time with you and answers all pre/during/post surgery questions you and your people can think of! His transportation coordinator Rosie is friendly, caring, and a whole bunch of fun and she really sets a positive tone for your trip. The first contact you get is Susan, his patient care coordinator and she is TOTALLY GREAT. Talk about your 3 in the morning emails and questions. She never makes me feel stupid and has made it clear via her 3 post-trip contacts that she is not going anywhere. Dr. Alvarez has taken all aspects of the surgery into consideration and is open and honest with the surgery and the entire process. His surgical competence (I had massive scar tissue he had to get through and a hernia) and his bedside manner are top notch.

I had my surgery on 9/5/09. After reading all the other testimonials and doing tons of research I wasn't nervous about going to Mexico. But even if I had been, once I got there all fears would have vanished. Dr. Alvarez was comforting the moment I met with him. He answered all my questions and was so honest and gentle that I was completely at ease. The hospital was not new and shiny like those here in the US but it was cleaner than many I have been in here. The staff was wonderful and even though we had a language barrier, I never had any trouble getting what I needed. I never felt in danger in Mexico! This was an incredible experience! I am so grateful to Dr. Alvarez for providing this service. In the States it would have taken me years to save up the money but now I can start a new life with his help!

Finally, a date- 7/24/08, and it isn't coming soon enough!rnrnWhat can I say about Dr. A. and Dr. Gabriel that hasn't already been said? I could care less about the facility; I would fly anywhere to have this man operate on me again. The recovery was more mentally challenging than physically, and there are simply not enough words in the English language to describe the compassion, care, and grace he shows every patient. Dr. Alvarez is simply the best!

I am so grateful to Dr. Alvarez and Dr. Rosales for doing my revision from a lap band to a VSG. rnrnI had been working with a doctor here in Ohio, and I got approval from my insurance company, Aetna. But at the last minute I decided to go with Dr. Alvarez instead because he had so much more experiance with revisions. rnrnI'm so glad I did. Dr. Alvarez was able to do it smoothly and in one surgery. On the x-ray afterward the stomach looked perfectly stitched. My incisions are small and healing perfectly.rnrnAlso, I think Aetna will pay for the surgery in Mexico. I don't have a check in hand yet, but when I do I'll post to the message board.

I had a wonderful experience in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez and his staff. I will echo the many supporters here to say that he is kind, informative and will put you at ease immediately. I never considered going the insurance route because the surgeons here in Colorado are just getting started with the VSG procedure. I didn't want to be someone's 25th, 50th or even 100th patient: I wanted a ton of experience and I found it in Dr. Alvarez.rnThe nursing care was amazing: pure clockwork. These gals - - some who spoke some English, others not - - came in every one to two hours with meds for pain and nausea. I never needed to ask and frankly, after surgery I had very little pain and zero nausea, but it was so reassuring to get this high level of care. Dr. A also visited more regularly than any U.S. doc would even consider which was also comforting. You kind of have to giggle at some of the old-fashioned care: I can't remember the last time I had my temperature taken under my armpit but hey, the technique still works. I have to give the whole logistical operation extra kudos: my plane into San Antonio was very late and Rosy waited for me which was a further stress reducer. Overall, a truly great team and a great experience!
