Dr. Woodman as you have read many times before is a dry man but he is also a caring and concerned dr who is just trying to help you help yourself get the weight off. He is strict but some people like me need that. He is very hip on exercising, but the walking is what helped me get most of my weight off. He explains everything to you before surgery and everytime you go in for aftercare. I would rate Dr. Woodman a 10. He is the best dr when it comes to this type of surgery and your life is in his hands and he knows it and he takes it seriously. If you are considering this surgery and are wanting to go to the tennessee are Dr. Woodman is who I would highly recommend. Knows exactly what he is doing and has alot of confidence!!!!

I have been very impressed w/ Dr Woodman. He is a superb practitioner with an impeccable surgical reputation. His office staff are very helpful, sweet and encouraging. I know that if there is any complication at all Dr Woodman is the Dr to have as he is on top of things so quickly. He is a no-nonsense type and has laid protocol out so clearly that there really should be no need for any questions. He treats the patient as the most important part of the team and as such, he expects the patients to do their homework and practically memorize the protocol book. If you are looking for a gooey, sweet, hand-holding physician, he is not your guy BUT He will make sure we succeed if it is in his power. He holds one support group meeting a month but does encourage patients to support each other which is what has happened in my case-we have started a small group that meets every 2 weeks and hope that it grows. His office is always full and that speaks well to his reputation. All I can say is that if you are in the Midsouth area, you will be well taken care of if you choose Dr. Woodman. In the seminars he gives, he is extremely honest about the subject of WLS and what impressed me was that he wasn't there to \"sell\" anyone on the surgery or to talk them into it. It was \"just the facts\" which was great!!!!

My first impression of Dr Woodman was that he was definitely a by the book kind of doctor. He expects a lot from his patients. After leaving his office after my first visit with him I was a little doubtful as to how it would all work out. However as time has progressed, especially since my surgery, I have grown to really respect him. He really cares about his patients well being and overall care. His bedside manner may not be the best but I did not hire him as my surgeon for his bedside manner. I used him because of his reputation in surgery and he definitely lived up to the excellence that I had heard about him prior to my surgery. The support group meetings that his practice holds every month have been very imformative and I have made several friends throughout the process.

At the seminar I attended Dr.Woodman seemed informed and not wanting to push one kind of surgery over another. He actually told us at the seminar that if you are seeing a surgeon who only wants to do 1 kind of surgery you are at the wrong place because everyones needs are different. I got the impression that he wanted his patients to research their choices and make the best choice for them, not the best choice for him.rn Cyndy has been really nice when I have called in for any reason. The receptionist (can't remember her name- SORRY!)was extremely nice when I went in for my first appointment too.rn My impression of the office staff is and always has been wonderful!!! They are fantastic!rn Dr. Woodman knows his business! He is very short on bedside manner, but for me that is NOT an issue. I prefer competence over bedside manner.rn There is structured after care in place and a great support group also.rn I rate Dr. Woodman overall as a 10. He knows his business and is about the business of helping you to have a healthier lifestyle than what you are accustomed to. He doesn't have room or time for excuses and you should know that he can be blunt and right to the point with you.

Dr. Woodman is the best !! He really cares about his patients, his staff cares. They remember your name not by a chart or records they know who you are in public. This shows me how much they really do care. Dr. Woodman goes above and beyond what he has to. I have never had a Dr. much less a surgeon call me or e-mail me at home to make sure everything was going well.rnrnDr. Woodman and his team went over every step and possible complication of the surgery. The day I went into surgery I had no question of what I was doing or about who was doing it. I had the BEST. I only have 1 thing negative about Dr. Woodman he is a Jeff Gordon Fan. But that is ok because he is the Best surgeon in Memphis in his field. Would not have had any one else. rnrnDr. Woodman you are the best and Thank You for Changing my life for the Better...

I met Dr. Woodman initially at the WLS seminar in December 2004. He is very straight-forward. Don't expect him to sugar coat anything! lol I did not see him again until December 2005 at my pre-op office visit. Dr. Woodman is not going to hold your hand or pat you on the back from what I have gathered. I actually left his office and was crying my eyes out by the time I got to my car the day of my pre-op visit. I definitely left with the attitude of, "I'll show you!" I think that is what he wants. I think his surgery stats speak for themselves, and I feel like I will be in very competent hands when it comes time for my surgery. He was definitely quite abrasive (as someone else posted) at the beginning of my pre-op consultation. I think that is putting it lightly in fact. He became slightly more personable as time passed during the visit, though. Kelley and Dr. Woodman really came through for me when it came to scheduling my surgery date as my current insurance approval was about to expire. I am very pleased.

2/9/06 - I need to add an update here. Ok, Dr. Woodman DID actually pat me on the back at my first post-op visit!!! :-) Every time I see him he gives me more "words of wisdom" that I take with me every day. Everything he says sticks with me and I will now say that he knows what it takes to get results and he expects you to do 100% of your part. He is very knowledgeable and I am super pleased with my choice of surgeon.

My lap-band surgeon is Dr. George Woodman of Memphis, Tennessee. He and his entire staff are absolutely dedicated to helping their patients be successful during the weight-loss journey. Dr. W requires each patient to attend a seminar where all aspects of weight-loss surgery are fully explained. His office staff is most helpful with all areas of the surgery process, and are easily contacted if we have questions or concerns. The aftercare program is superb. I recommend, without reservations, Midsouth Bariatrics to any person who is serious about weight-loss surgery.

Dr. Woodman and his staff are very well organized and thoughtful. He is very skilled yet very blunt with his expectations of you. He makes it known from the begining that WLS is only a tool and that one must adhere to the behavior modification to be successful in our battle against obesity. The aftercare structure is wonderfully organized. He explained the risks and possible complications completely with me. I would rate him a 10 on a scale of 1-10 as a surgeon. His bedside manner is a little on the dry side, but nevertheless, he is a great surgeon.

I think that Dr. Woodman and his staff are the greatest. They were heaven sent and they make you feel like your part of the family. Each individual is very pleasant and each one takes the time to actually listen and sit down to talk to you. Also, they are very concern with what's going on with you. Thanks, Dr. Woodman and staff. I really appreciate everything that you all have done for me.

My first impression of Dr Woodman was that he was very busy and very determined. I attended a seminar he had and was impressed with the product, the banding procedure, the support of his office, and his skills and track record for successfully performing the surgery. I followed up with an office visit and started putting my paperwork together. They were very helpful and my carrier Humana approved the surgery.

I had alot of questions and concerns going into the surgery that I felt wern't properly addressed by the publications I received. In retrospect, my questions and concerns were just the result of over worrying, and Dr Woodman and his chief nurse answered most of them to my satisfaction.

I attend a regular support group that includes a nutritionist and other topics to help keep us on track. He is big on exercise after surgery and he is right. I never realized to what extremes I would take not exercising. I guess when you are overweight you perfect the art of conserving energy!

Overall I would give him an excellent rating. A++ if I had to grade him and his staff. He cares about your health and well being and that is reinforced to me each time I see him. Some may feel that at first meeting he is not as compasionate as you want him to be. That could not be further from the truth. He does a great job managing the cases of the many patients he has.

He is tough on folks who just want a miracle quick fix and are not committed to a change in lifestyle. I would recommend the band as a wonerfull weightloss tool only. The after care support is an added extra and greatly appreciated.
