my first impression was that he is very concerned about my total overall health and he didnt rush through our meeting but took plenty of time and totally explained every aspect of the surgery good an bad

the ladies in the office are very special people , constantly careing and extremly helpful

what i liked most about this practice is they have everything in house to get prompt insurance approval-this was very convenient for me

Dr. Kerlakian seems to be a very serious and thorough individual. He was very adamant that this surgery is a tool for weight loss not a miracle cure. He wants you to know that this is a life style change that must be maintained if you want yo be successful in your weight loss and to keep it off. Dr. K and has staff offer a wonderful program that does not center solely around the surgery but before care and after care. Dr. Kerlakian was very up front about the suregery risks and the fatalities that have occured. I have not had my surgery yet, but so far I give Dr. K and his staff a great big A+.

Very good impression, and has only improved.
Excellent, kind and friendly staff.
Very large emphasis on aftercare and staying with the entire program and using support group.

Yes, there is a structured aftercare program.

Yes, addressed risks at the initial group seminar and in the individual meetings wuth him.

A 10 out of 10.

Bedisde manner is great, and I have only heard great things about his competence- from friends who had him as a surgeon, and the hospital staff.

My first impression was that Dr. Kerlakian was very honest, very forthright. My impression of Dr. Kerlakian hasn't changed yet. He is very honest and upfront. I believe that is important in a surgeon. The office staff is wonderful, very helpful. I can't think of anything I don't like. Future patients should know that if you are taking this surgery lightly-Dr. Kerlakian will set you straight REAL QUICK. Dr. Kerlakian and his team have a before, during and after care plan in place that seems to cover everything.
I think Dr. Kerlakian was the best choice I could have made for this surgery.

He seemed warm, friendly, concerned and compassionate. My feelings have remained the same so far. His office staff is superb! They alone could win you over. He is very busy so time can be short with him but he still answers all your questions.
Aftercare is a major part of his concern it doesn't stop with the surgery care. He looks into the future longterm lifestyle changes and provides the programs to help you make the changes.
He is very upfront about the risks and about his losses for the number of surgeries he has done.
I would rate him very high, and both his competence and bedside manner seem very good.

My doctor was great. We (my husband my friend and my daughters)went to the seminars and a group meeting where my doctor was the guest speaker. My daughters were very upset about me having the surgery. I was a "lightweight" but the comorbidities is why I did it. The staff at the doctors office was excellent. I called serveral times after being home from the hospital, they returned my call and were very patient with me. I highly recommend the whole program with the doctor, his assistant, dietician and physical therapist all working together. They keep good track of you after the surgery at 2 weeks and again at 6 weeks. (not sure after that since I am writing this at 4 weeks.) I had a very rough week when I first came home. I was trying to do to much (protein wise) and could not get it all in. I talked to the office, they calm me down and told me to heal first then worry about the protein. They are so very nice. Would definitely recommend.

My first impression was that he was very knowledgeable and thorough. He knew is facts, data, the risks, etc., and was very forthcoming with them.

My impression has not changed over time. I have had a complication since my surgery last week and took myself to the ER, he insisted I stay so he could review my issues in person the next morning. Instead of rushing me in and out he and his residents gave me a good deal of their time. When I talked to a nurse in his office after I was released she told me she was going to come and visit me in the hospital that day, but I was released. The Dietitian came over when she didn't have to as well. Everyone in the office has a real caring attitude, one that is hard to find in the busy business of doctor these days. It reassures me I chose the right group to do my surgery.

There isn't anything I don't like about the doctor or his staff.

Aftercare is high emphasized in all literature and in person, which is very reassuring that it isn't all about having the surgery done then saying good-bye. The aftercare program consists of a visit with him at 2 weeks, a Dietitian visit at 3 weeks, a visit and exercise program at a nearby office building, joining this online group, joining support groups if wanted, and it continues for months. They do a great job of explaining why they want to make sure everything is OK physically, and mentally.

The doctor and his staff did an initial seminar about the procedure and explained the risks. He told us how many patients he had that had died due to complications and his percentage of complications compared to the national average. He also addresses risks in his personal consultations with the patient and his/her spouse.

Overall, even with what seem to be some minor ongoing complications I would rate Dr. K and his staff A+. I believe I could not have made a better choice in a bariatric team. He would be worth traveling for.

Dr. Kerlakian and his staff are wonderful! I already had a good impression of them after having attended the required seminar, but the one-on-one meetings re-enforced my faith that I had chosen the best surgeon for me.

One of the things I like is that, at the seminar I received a packet with a checklist of everything to be done, i.e. PCP visit, psych eval, etc., so that by the time I saw Dr. Kerlakian and got the "green light" from him, all the paperwork was ready to go to the insurance company. This put ME in more control of how fast things got done.

Dr. Kerlakian is a straight shooter about the risks involved. On the other hand, he promised me he would do everything he can to get me through this safely, and I trust him to do so. Now I am waiting for my surgery date, and will post an update on Dr. K afterwards.

As promised, Dr. Kerlakian successfully got me through surgery on 9/21/04. He takes lots of precautions against complications. All the heparin shots were a bit aggravating, but I like his approach to making every effort to avoid blood clots. His bedside manner is wonderful, in that he is genuinely concerned and caring about his patients. His surgical competence is outstanding! I would highly recommend Dr. Kerlakian!
