George Hoffman Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
I was very impressed with Dr. Hoffman and most of his staff from the moment I walked in. He is very truthful, full of knowledge and a sincere person. There was nothing I did not like about him, he is a very wise doctor. Dr. Hoffman is very big on aftercare, support group attendance and eating right for life. Dr. Hoffman & NSG has a on sight support group every 2nd Tuesday of the month along with a very thorough structure aftercare program. He informed me of all the risk of the surgery along with going over diagrams and answering any questions I had. Overall I would say from just my own stand point; the staff at NSG & he are truely PRICELESS!
I have only had an initial visit with the Dr. He was very professional and didn't sugar coat this surgery and stressed the seriousness of the procedure and the possibilities of complications. His staff was very nice as well and made me feel at ease and not embarassed. Norfolk Surgical Group has a great monthly support group which I have attended. He emphasized aftercare and that this is a total committment to a lifestyle change. I have not had my surgery so I cannot tell you about competence, but my primary care physician gave him an excellent regommendation. I like a straightforward Dr. so I was impressed with his professionalism and thoroughness.
When i meet with Dr. George Hoffman he was very professional, concerned, and polite explained the surgery and the after care. What to expect,he explained that thisis a life long thing, and very serious sergery.he told me about the B12 i may have to takeand the vitaminsthat would be alifelong thing. The holdstaff was extremely professional, lots ofsmiles willing to answer all your questions.I feelvery confortable with Dr. George Hoffman and his staff.
my dr. is going to be george hoffman . i say he is an older more experienced dr. this makes me more confident about the surgery. he seemed very sympathetic with me and my weight problem.i feel confident as can be with him and was referred by my mammogram office employee.she said he performed an emergency surgery on her mother that saved her life from a ruptured colon.
When I decided to explore the surgery in depth I asked a number of doctors I know who the best surgeon in Norfolk for this kind of procedure was. The unanimous answer was George Hoffman. I made an appointment with him and went in with a long list of questions. He answered all my questions and provided me with about 100 pages of technical reports on the procedure which I read later. There was no pressure to do it or not do it. He agreed I was a candidate due to my weight and co-morbidities. His office handled the filing of insurance and I more or less tabled the whole thing until I learned if it would be covered. Several weeks later someone from the doctor's office called to say it was approved and within a day or two Trigon provided me with a letter to that effect. I called and told Dr. Hoffman's office to go ahead and schedule the procedure and set me up with whatever pre-surgery testing he wanted. The whole process has been handled efficiently and without fuss and I expect the same from the surgery itself.
10/1/01: A quick post surgery update; Dr. Hoffman was fantastic. He saw me twice daily in the hospital. After sending me home he called the house the next day to see how I was doing. He has seen me twice in the 3 weeks since surgery and we have another appointment for 10/9. He even called me at the office last week to see how I was doing. This is the busy senior member of a large surgical practice and yet he seems to have all the time in the world to see to my welfare. Most impressive and the actual work was flawless too!
He is very serious and down to business. I knew him already from previous surgery, and he has the best reputation in the area (per operating room personel). My impression of him has not changed-I would use him again. Office staff easy to deal with. There is nothing I don't like about him-he's not there to be your best friend-he is there to to a good job on you and keep you alive. I guess you could say he's not real personable-which does't bother me. No structured aftercare program, but he encourages you to go to the WLS groups at the hospital. He thouroughly reviewed the risks: drew pictures for me too. I would give him a "10"
