Felix Spiegel Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.
Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
I had a band placed as a revision to a previous gastric stapling surgery in 2006. The band never held fluid and instead of replacing it at no cost to me IDr Spiegel and his office told that for a blank dollar amount he would replace it. After several visits and being extremely frustrated with him and him with me he finally agreed to do his part at no cost, but I would still have to pay for the hospital and everything else all over again. I took out a loan and will be stuck making payment on that loan for another 3 years. It took me about a year and several visits to his office to get him to agree to that much, but after all of that, I would never let him do surgery on me again anyway. I want my money back so I can have another surgeon repair the damage done, but of course he didn't go for that idea. His office staff was very understanding and every time I came in there crying they did try to comfort me. I guess if everything had gone right I wouldn't feel this way, but I do know that my first impression at a one of his seminars is that we were all just cattle, I guess I should have stuck with that impression and found another surgeon.
This is just my personal impression and my personal experience and that I am making no statements about what other people may experience.

Dr. Felix Speigel was very supportive and showed confidence in his comments and promises. His staff was also very supportive and because they all have had WLS they can relate with your situation. What I liked more was the fact that they handled everything with my insurance company and did everything possible to get me approved on the first attempt. He also boosted my confidence when he said that he had done an extra long bypass instead of three feet of small intestine he bypassed six which he said would help my body have less time to absorb calories.rnhttp://www.swspecialists.com/
Dr. Spiegel is a great doctor! Dr. Spiegel has always been there to answer my questions or concerns even after hours. There is great emphasis on aftercare and support. However, because of the distance, I am unable to make the support meetings. I do wish that he offered support groups within the Lake Charles area which would allow quite a few of his patients to attend. I filmed an informercial in April 2008 and it pretty awesome to be recognized where you go and to be able to share my WLS journey. I would rate Dr. Spiegel a 9.0 for his surgical competence.
Dr. Spiegel seemed very knowledgable about bariatric surgeries. He had a tough time with my verticle sleeve due to a prior scar tissue from a gall bladder removal years ago. He was very considerate and seems concerned about my progress. He also performed a band surgery on my sister the same day...Although I am considering a revision, I would go back to him without question. His staff is also very supportive. I think all of them have had bariatric surgeries performed by him. (Houston, TX office)
Dr Spiegel is undoubtedly a pro at performing the lapband surgery. One year out I do somewhat question his training methods for post-op patients. I would suggest all considering the LB surgery to do their due diligence to research the Dr. that can accomodate your entire weight loss process without cost-laden fills and follow-up care.rnrnGood surgeon, with costly cash payment required fills.
My first impression of Dr. Spiegal was that he made my mom skinny! At the time, I didn't care about his bedside manner or anything else. I just wanted the surgery.rnrnAs time passes, my impression has changed. I don't feel like he cares about his patients success anymore.rnrnOffice staff, for the most part they are okay, but it's been awhile since I've gone in to the office.rn
I am working with Dr. Felix Spiegel and his staff in his Houston office. This is a VERY experienced and competent surgeon with an enthusiastic ans helpful staff. They are quite busy as a result of the great demand for Dr. Spiegel's expertise, but I don't see this as a problem. My advice is to come prepared with relevant health history information, as well as a list of questions, and you will be very satisfied with the care you receive in your initial consultation. I know I was!
