Very thorough!!! I felt awful after surgery as I have always been a "gagger" since childhood- I gag at the smell of skunks, anything from the fridge more than a few days old... anything really.... That man answered the nurses phone calls and came to see me first thing in the morning. I still feel terrible about bugging him in the middle of the night (like 2 a.m., then 3 a.m., then 5 a.m.) but he's never mentioned it. I feel like I'm the only person on his mind when I see him at my patient visits. My Insurance company denied me in my 11th hour... literally like On Wednesday, when my surgery was scheduled for Friday... his office worked with me. Deb Moynihan the coordinator was very nice and allowed a check to be sent from out of state to help me pay for the surgery (we were scrambling to come up with the entire cost of the surgery)... Lori is the dietician in her office and she was also great. She's very detailed as far as what you can eat and when... His entire staff is almost a little too cautious, very very pro-active when it comes to complications. I've had friends who's surgeons just kinda turn them loose... not Dr. Akkary's staff-- they have support group meetings every month, and you have some hoops to jump through before he'll perform surgery, but in the end it made me feel like he cared about what he does. The only thing I can say that is even remotely negative is that I have to drive almost 2 hours to see him.. and the hospital is very small. Other than that I'm so happy that I've done this for myself... and my family!!!
Originally my surgery was scheduled for June 21, 2010 however they called to reschedule. The scheduling nurse advised me that Dr Akkary would be in town to preform the surgery that day, however had to go out of town that evening. I was disappointed, however she advised me that Dr Akkary doesn't like to preform the surgery and not be able to follow up personally with the patients. I think that says a lot about him. It just made everything better.
I was skeptical regarding Dr Akkary's announcement to leave WVU as I didn't want to follow up with another physician; however his Assistant assured me that Dr Akkary has every intention to remain in WV and hopes to be within an hour of Morgantown. I think this shows the dedication he has towards his patients.

My first impression of Dr. Akkary was that he was a very caring and sensitive doctor. Over time my first impression of him has proven to be just as I perceived it to be.rnHis office staff and his assisant physican are very helpful and are quick to answerrnany questions I ask. Future patients should know he is one of the best bariatric surgeonsrnthere is. He provides excellent aftercarerninformation and is always available and provides prompt replies to emails sent to him. He has a very structured aftercare program and has a once monthly support meeting that provides us with information and inspiration to continue our Weight Loss Journey. All aspects of my surgery was gone over with me many times including all the risks. I rate him a A+ for his surgical compentence and bedside manner both are excellent. These are my personal impressions of my personal experience with Dr. Akkary.

My first impression of Dr. Akkary is that he is very professional. My impression of him has improved more each time I \"speak\" (in person, via e-mail, etc.) with him. Dr. Akkary is in a transition period with his practice looking for a new dietician and office administrator. However, the people who have been filling in have been wonderful. I can't think of anything I haven't liked about him. The thing that seems to jump out at me, and that future patients should know, is how attentive he is to your needs. Dr. Akkary has gotten back to me within 24 hours with any questions I have had. I am pre-op and don't know about aftercare yet. Dr. Akkary was upfront about all the risks of surgery ... as with any surgery. To this point on a scale of 0-10, I'd give him an 8. Dr. Akkary himself is a 10, but the fact that he is in the process of looking for new staff has left some things up in the air ... which I'm sure will be addressed as soon as someone is hired. Surgical competence and bedside manner are both important to me ... but in the long run I want to know I have a competent surgeon first and foremost.

Dr Akkary is a very caring person, who is available to his patients day and night. He is a very competent, knowledgeable surgeon, and explains everything in terms you will understand. He is the only doctor I've ever met who gives you his cell phone number so you can reach him day or night! For anyone thinking about having this surgery, I would highly recommend Dr Akkary and his staff at WVU.
Dr. Akkary is the greatest. He is so kind and so very understanding. He made me feel at ease onthe 1st visit. Throughout the entire pre process he has been great. He has even answered my emails late at night. His office staff is so wonderful. They have kept me up to date on the process and were even able to get me scheduled so quickly once the surgery was approved.
