DR.OLSEN WAS GREAT. FROM THE FIRST VISIT. VERY GOOD BED SIDE MANNER. I HAD SOME COMPILCATIONS 1ST MONTH, I HAD TO GO BACK TO HOSPITAL COUPLE TIMES, DR.OLSEN WAS VERY THOROUGH. HE STAYED ON ME TO MAKE SURE I DRINKED AT LEAST 64 OZ OF FLUID A DAY. WHEN I LEFT HOSPITAL AND WENT HOME HE HAD HIS STAFF CALL ME TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OK AND HAS CALLED ME HIMSELF TO CHECK AND GO OVER RESULTS WITH ME. WHICH MAKES YOU FEEL THAT THE DOCTOR REAL CARES ABOUT you and YOUR HEALTH. MY SURGERY WAS ON 07/22/08 AND I Have lost 71 pounds. Doing great now! I'm glad i picked dr.olsen. I have 7 friends at work who picked him also and all feel the same. I was refered to him by my friends and if anyone is thinking about the surgery would advised them tO pick dr.olsen.
Dr. Olsen impressed me the first visit as being very professional and business minded, a no nonsense type of guy. My impression has not changed much, but I knew going in that this was what I needed. The office staff are so friendly and upbeat that they kind of off set Dr. Olsen's serious, no nonsense attitude. They complement each other well. I do wish that Dr. Olsen shared my test results with me and explained what he's looking for when he runs my blood work. I never know exactly what my results say, not even when I come back for the next visit. I also wish he would share results with my general practiioner and my endochrinologist as they have requested. I think the 3 of the should share information to best treat me for all medical conditions. Future patients of Dr. Olsen should know that he will not \"blow smoke\". He shoots straight and expects you to follow his instructions to the letter. He does not tolerate \"cheating\". He wants you to succeed and you can only do this by changing the bad habits that got you to the point of needing bariatric surgery. He encourages and expects that you participate in some type of aftercare program, but is supportive if you are unable to attend the sessions offered locally because of a distance problem. Dr. Olsen was very open and up front about the risks of surgery. He laid it all on the line and then asked if I had any questions. He was very willing to answer any and all of my questions. I have not regretted my decision to have Dr. Olsen as my surgeon and if I were to do it all over again, I would still choose Dr. Olsen. Although, I would prefer a doctor with both a wonderful bedside manner and exceptional surgical competence, I much prefer the surgical competence. Dr. Olsen's strong suit is definetely the surgical compentence, his bedside manner was okay too (I've seen much worse!!) Overall, I could not ask for a better or more supportive doctor and staff. Visiting their office is always a pleasant experience. I would encourage anyone wanting to investigate bariatric surgery to strongly consider Dr. Olsen and his staff. I don't think they would regret the decision to choose Dr. Olsen.
I had my first visit with Dr. Olsen, Friday, Aug. 11. I found him to be very serious about his profession. He explained everything so completely. All my questions were answered extensively by him. His staff is absolutely wonderful. They treated me as if they had known me all my life. If you are considering this surgery I would strongly suggest you see Dr. Olsen, he let me know up front that this was a team effort, that I am not in it alone, and that together we will succeed. rnNow as of March 9, 2008 I am 18 months out after my surgery my impression of Dr. Olsen and his staff has not changed. In fact I have grown more appreciative of him and his staff. Recently Dr. Olsen and his staff were there for me when my husband had an unexplainable near death incident. Some one from Dr. Olsen's staff was at the hospital every day sitting with me and trying to keep me calm while my husband was being run the mill with test, knowing how frightened I was they took exceptionally good care of me. Dr. Olsen had also done gastric bypass on my husband Dec. 19, 2006. Rob's sudden illness had nothing to do with his surgery. The caring staff at Centennial Center for the treatment of Obesity were so good to me. Words will never be able to tell just how grateful I am to all of them.rnFuture patients should know that Dr. O. is very strict when it comes to following his orders. He wants the best for his patients and he goes all out to see that they are successful. If you are considering RNY/ Gastric Bypass Surgery, Dr. Olsen is the Dr. for you. If you want excellence, in ability and excellence in staff relationships.rnThere is not one thing that I did not like about Dr. Olsen and his staff.rnDr. Olsen is real big on aftercare, he insist on it. That is what made me and my husband so successful in a years time. There is a structured aftercare program. In my opinion the aftercare program is one of the most important things a gastric bypass patients can utilize. We are given a tool to use and without the aftercare program we sometimes don't understand the full potential of how this tool can help.rnThe risk of surgery was addressed on at the very first office visit. Dr. Olsen explained everything in great detail taking as much time as I needed to understand the decision I had made.rnOn a scale of 1-10 Dr. Olsen would be off the chart, His grade would be a 10 ++++++++++++.rnSurgical competence is far more important to me than bedside manner. Dr. Olsen is not one to joke and kid around when it comes to your life.rnThe more you get to know him the more happier you will be glad that you chose him for your surgeon. His wife Kathy is a great asset to his staff. I can't say enough good things about Kendra and Gay.rnDr. Olsen, kathy Olsen, Kendra, Gay and Kathy Hungerford are the best part of my journey, other than of course my WLS. They have become an important part of mine and Robert's life.rnSandi R. 8/28/06 RNY, Dr. Olsen, 331/147/rnIf you want to be treated like family then Dr. Olsen and his staff is the way to go.rn
Dr. Olsen is very much the professional. It is obvious he is concerned about the success of the patient and tries to answer any questions I have. I would give him a 10 and would pick him again if given the chance. The office staff is very supportive and friendly. My time in the waiting room has been minimal each visit. I did not find the information regarding exersice very helpful, however. Overall, Great!
Very up front and truthful. I met him at the my first conference and I'm glad I did. He told it like it was and was to the point. I wanted a doctor like him. And I was able to get him. I was glad he had an opening. My first office visits was good. My impression didnn\"t change until several visits. He expected more than I could do until later he realized that my metabolism was much slower and he treated me with a better attitude. I was feeling bad about myself until he explained to me some people have an active metoblic system and some people don't and I don't. So i have to be more careful on my intake on calories. The staff is very courtesy and nice to be around. Dr. Olsen is a very good doctor he let's you know what you need to do and also emphasize that you go to the support groups, dietician, have your lab work done. He also emphasize for you to take your vitamins and count your calories. He's thoroughly do your weekly and month checkups. He was up front on the risk of surgery. He said their have been some fataliteis but not that many. I rate him 10. on both surgical competence, bedside manner.
my first impression of dr. olson was that he was very knowledgable, sincere and straight to the point. he addessed all aspects of the surgery including the risks. he has a very structured aftercare program. i would rate him at the top of the list, his surgical competence was excellent as well as his bedside manner. i am very grateful for the care that he has given to me and would be the only bariatric surgeon that i would recommend. dr. olson has truely given me back my life.
My name is Thelma Dailey and I first saw and heard Dr. Doug Olsen at the seminar at Centennial Hospital. He was very articulate about the surgery and gave plenty of information to let me know that there were some serious risks in having it done. I thought he seemed so serious that he would be hard to talk to. As I got to see be around him more I realized that he just takes his job seriously and I am glad that he does! The staff in his office were always so sweet and concerned for me and my surgery. They never made me feel like I was awful to let myself gain that much weight, which was what I dreaded because I figured they might. Also, at the hospital they treated me like I was \"somebody\". Just know that Dr. Olsen very much wants the very best for you and I believe he did the very best surgery for me that anyone could. His after care is wonderful he had my best health in mind always. His aftercare program is the best. My home doctor recommended Dr. Olsen for that reason. I have lost 140 pounds. It has been two years since I had my surgery! I feel great. I know that I have a new lease on life and will see my dreams and visions accomplished after all! I feel like I was in safe hands with Dr. Olsen doing my surgery(gastric bypass surgery). I recommend Dr. Doug Olsen to everyone I talk to that is considering this type of surgery. It might not be for everyone and I believe that Dr. Olsen would be the first one to tell you if it is right for you or not. Just listen to him and do your part of the before and after surgery and you will do great. I have done great and am feeling so much better than I have done in many, many years.
