Douglas McKane Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

When I first met with Dr. McKane I thought how nice and pleasant he was. He answers your questions and takes the time to make you feel he really cares.I've met him twice, and I thought the same both times. He tells you like it is. Tells you what you must do, and expects you to do it. I wouldn't be there if I didn't plan to follow what he says. But he also has a wonderful sense of humor. Makes you feel like he is your friend. They have a good after care program, which will help. His staff is very nice. They are friendly and so helpful. The only 'down' thing is the wait in the waiting room sometimes. But I have to remember they are extremely busy and they do have emergencies.

Dr. McKane started off telling a joke. He was very friendly. He was the 1st doctor that didn't tell me I was huge and it was all my fault. He emphasizes all the risks almost to the point I was scared to death. I felt more aware of things after he was done. I really like him alot. He treats me as if I have a brain not some fat lazy dumb fat person like alot of my previous doctors.

Dr. McKane is a doctor like no other that I have spoken with before. He talks to me on his level and never made me feel beneath me. I have always felt like he was willing to give me the time and attention needed to make me feel comfortable with the procedures. Peggy and the rest of his office staff really work hard to make this practice successful and ever growing. They truly and honestly want to help the "morbidly obese" community of the Southern Tier of New York and for that, I thank them whole heartedly. The only negative I would say is that I think they do take the eating schedule a bit too rigid. I felt that I was ready to move forward with the different stages faster than they wanted me to and it was very frustrating for me. I didn't want to break my promise to them and go forward with eating, but after reading how so many other surgeons believed it was okay, I thought Dr. McKane was being overly protective.

My first impression of Dr. Douglas D. McKane was that he was extremely proficient in his knowledge and ability to explain the Roux-en Y gastric bypass surgery. He did not talk down to me and he patiently explained this complex procedure in terms I could easily understand.
The thing that got my attention was when he asked me; "What would you do if you have this operation and some complication occurs?" I was originally contemplating getting the surgery at Gesinger Medical Center in Danville, PA (3 hour one way trip by car from my home in Wellsboro, PA).
Dr. Douglas D. McKane and Dr. Robert E. Cole of the Bariatric Surgical Associates, LLC at 100 John Roemmelt Drive in Horseheads, NY 14845 (607)796-5936 are both excellent doctors. I would recommend either doctor for this surgery as they work togeather very well.
The staff at the Bariatric Surgical Associates, LLC help their patient understand the life changes needed by diet, exercise and psychological effects of this surgery.
Dr. Douglas D. McKane thoroughly covered the risks involved in this surgery.
They take excellent care before the surgery (educating and working with the patient preparing for surgery). They continue with the care after surgery as well.
I strongly recommend these people as caring, proficient, knowledgeable, and patient professionals.

Dr. McKane is the best! I am six days post-op now and feel that I had the best surgeon I could possibly have had. He has been wonderful since day one! He made sure he explained everything in great detail and answered all questions completely. During my hospital stay he was great! I am very confident that things will continue to go well under Dr. McKane's watchful eye!

My first impression of Dr. McKane was pleasant. He was so up front and honest, I appreciated that. I don't think my impression will change at all of him. His staff was okay, this was the first time I had met with them so I really have not had the time to really get to know or meet alot of them. There was nothing that I did'nt like about him. He was so honest with me, he explained everything to me, he answered the questions that I had at the time and took his time, I liked that. I think that I feel comfortable knowing that he is a very competent surgeon and this was much more important to me than him making me like him. All of that can come later, right now it is about my health and I need his wisdom regarding that very issue not how to get along with others....

I'm just now deciding about the surgery. I've only met Dr. McKane one for the initial consultation and he seemed very nice and knowledgeable. I'm hoping to go back to him very soon. Checking this site to see how others feel and how they've managed before, during and after the surgery. Very interesting. Thanks.

My first impression of Dr McKane was that he was a very caring and knowlegeable man. He was very thorough in his evaluation of me. He sent me for age appropriate testing to be sure I was healthy enough for surgery and worked with me until the date came to set a surgery date. His nurse manager Peggy was very pleasant and was very helpful in setting up appointments and in getting my surgery date scheduled.
The nutritionist is a very big help and it is my understanding she will be following up with me regularly after surgery.
I would rate Dr McKane very highly and very competent. I feel very comfortable and very secure that everything will go great. His bedside manner has been great with me.
