Dr. Hong was my surgeon on September 2, 2011. The first time we met was on the surgery table just before the surgery. My RNY surgery and immediate recovery could not have gone better.

If you get Dr. Hong for a surgeon consider yourself lucky, I did.

All of the staff at St. Josephs in Hamilton are awesome.

Dr. Dennis Hong (St. Joseph's Hamilton) is a wonderful doctor. He is very cheerful, honest and has a great bedside manner. He listens and answers your questions, and tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

I also had a hernia repair (and I didn't even know I had a hernia) during my RNY surgery. I would highly recommend him for RNY surgery.

As well, the office staff at St. Joe's are incredibly nice and helpful. I have nothing bad to say about them at all.

When I met Dr. Hong, I was very impressed. He took his time with me (even though he had a waiting room full of patients), I did not feel rushed and I felt I could of asked him anything. But because he explained everything so well, I didn't need to. At one point in the meeting, I actually felt so good about him, I asked him if I could request him as my surgeon. He said you can talk to Krista about that, but both myself and Dr. Anvari are equally good. That same week, Krista called me for my surgery appointment and told him it would be Dr. Hong doing surgeries the day my surgery was scheduled. So I hope on December 10th, I will be presently surprised going into the operating room and see Dr. Dennis Hong!!!

Dr. Hong was very nice. My encounter with him was brief but he did notify my family after the procedure as I had asked. His associates were also very nice. They were lighthearted which helped in keeping me relaxed. I was told that my surgery was only 1 1/2hrs not the 2 1/2hrs I was told it would be. I spent more time in recovery my family said than I did in surgery. The overall experience has been great. I wouldn't change a thing.

I met Dr.Hong very briefly while I was being sedated for my scope and I'm just assuming he is a nice guy! I was very confused up till a couple of days ago I thought my surgeon was Dr.Avari!! I think the way of getting gastric by-pass done in Ontario is you just have to roll with the punches or you wont get one to help you lose weight I kinda hate that but I hope this all works out in the long run and i become skinny and healthy!! I will tell you more after my surgery when maybe I'll get to meet Dr.Hung

Dr. Hong is currently at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton Ontario

I only spent a few minutes with Dr. Hong before surgery. I was a little surprised when he told me I had sleep apnea since I did NOT receive any news resulting from my test. Turns out I had very mild sleep apnea. but Hong still insisted that I go to the "Step Down Unit" after surgery (this delayed my surgery date by about 4 weeks)
Dr. Hong was in the operating room before they put me to sleep, he asked if I had anyone with me and I said "YES my wife will be waiting in the assigned waiting area for news of my surgery" She waited from 2:30 until 6 pm getting more frantic all the time. Dr. Hong never showed. She finally spoke to admitting and found out I was already out of recovery and in the step down unit. When I questioned one of Hong's assistant docs the next day.. He shrugged and said.. "Dr. Hong is very busy"
My surgery was on a Friday and I'm sure Dr. Hong simply wanted to get away for the weekend. I think it was inexcusable to leave my wife hanging for all that time and not have the courtesy to give her the promised quick update on my surgery!

Has a sense of humour. Answered my questions honestly and when I asked if surgery would hurt he told me it would and I appreciate that honesty. Put me at ease and very confident in his ability to perform my surgery. Only complaint was his fellows being late to do my scope and no one telling me they were running late until I sat there for 90 mins and finally asked. I should of asked sooner but once they got there it was very quick in and out.

I had my surgery in Guelph and was supposed to have Dr. Reed. Dr. Hong was on a locum in Guelph (he has since moved on to Hamilton). The moment I met Dr. Hong I felt at ease. He was extremely informative but not stuffy and all business. He has a great sense of humour and wasn't offended when I told him I had googled him (I hadn't heard of him). He explained everything to me in terms that I could understand. One thing I loved is that he doesn't use staples for the outside incisions...I had a horrible dream about the staples, so that made me very happy. After the appointment (I was his first Guelph patient) he walked me out to the front desk which I thought was quite nice. rnrnAs a surgeon he is AWESOME. My incisions have healed up beautifully. He used the dissolving stitches but there were no ends on the outside. Previous surgeries I have had, the stitches always had the knots that got itchy as hell and took forever to fall out. I had NONE with Dr. Hong. During my surgery when he was making the initial hookup with the intestine to the stomach there was an issue that concerned him so he made a secondary hookup in case of the first one failing so I wouldn't have to have surgery again. It's all very technical but the nurse called him a \"genius\". His bedside manner is terrific as well. I know he is involved in a lot of experimental bariatric surgery as well...so at the end of the day was I disappointed that I couldn't have Dr. Reed? HELL NO!!! rnrnIf Dr. Hong is an option for you I say GO FOR IT, you won't regret it. He's a super talented, down to earth Doctor. rnIf you have Dr. Hong rn
