I deceided to have gastric bypass surgery 2 weeks before I had to have my knee replaced. My PCP at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. referred me to Dr. Tichansky also at Jefferson.
Three weeks post-op from my knee replacement I meet Dr.Tichansky along with the rest of his support staff. Dr T. was so warm and caring he took his time with me and explained everything in great detail. He also gave me the option of meeting with his partner allowing me to choose who would perform the surgery. During my initial visit he informred me that he and the staff would always be there for support and they have been available to me. Dr Tichansky's bedside manner and surgical competence were great. I did not have any complication, however the pain the first 24 hours was more than I expected. He stressed to me how important the follow up care was as well as the support group lead by his awesome dietican and nurse. If I had to give a negative about the whole experience I thought some of the pre-op clearance wasn't necessary, ie; the sleep study. But overall I am so glad I chose Dr Tichansky!!I am 4 months post-op and I have lost 63lbs!!!!
I've been a patient of Dr. T's for a little over a year. From the moment I went for my initial consultation I knew that he was the right surgeon for me. I've felt as though he and the nutritionist and nurse practitioner did all they could to reassure me, answer my questions, and prepare me for what would come next. With their help, I've met the goals I set for myself and continue to set and achieve new ones. I would definitely recommend that patients considering surgery in the Philadelphia area meet with Dr. Tichansky and his team.
Each meeting with him b4 surgery was awesome. He had a very pleasant demeanor. He answered all my questions, even allowed me to ask more after I thought I was done. I never felt rushed. Always felt like I had his un-divided attention. He was also great talking to my fiance after the endoscopy, which eased his mind a little about me having the surgery.
In the hospital I saw him before surgery and he asked if I was still ok with having the bypass (i originally had wanted the banding). He explained the surgery again. He came to see me later and relieved any stress that I had. He was on top of everything because the nurses were telling me of all the new orders and such.
All-in-all. I am glad that I chose him. I am glad that he threw out the possibility of doing the bypass vs the banding on the initial visit. I am glad that I did all the pre-op stuff for the bypass even though I was undecided. I was glad that he asked me at each subsequent visit if I was sure abou the bypass. Most of all I am glad that he was the ears, eyes, hands, and knowlege behind my surgery.
I really liked Dr. Tichansky and the entire office from my first appointment. Dr. T is easy to talk to and forthcoming in answering questions. He remains consistent through first consult, hospital stay and aftercare. I also like that he is cautious and conservative and appreciate every extra precaution he takes. Monthly support groups are well run, interesting topics and well attended. The nutritionist and nurse practitioner are always available via telephone or email to answer any questions. I got approved right away which I believe comes from an efficient office that knows how to deal with insurance companies. I am so happy to have chosen Dr. Tichansky and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Previous reviews on this site have been very helpful and true to my experience.
What a wonderful experience. Dr. Tichansky and his staff are so thorough. They completely prepared me for my expereince. They were able to get me from initial appointment to surgery in 3 months!!! I wish I could sing Dr. Tchansky's praises forever. He is so diligent and attentive. He, his NP and Dietician are so prepared and willing to answer any and all questions. They do not act like the patient is an annoyance, rather they treat you like you are the only patient and constantly ask if you have any more questions. I usually hate to wiat in a doctor's office, but it is easy with Dr. Tichansky because I know that he is giving another patient the same care I will be receiveing once they are in your room.
My first impression of the office was kinda no - nonsense. Here is the seminar here is the information, which i enjoyed. The staff was very knowledgeable about what i need to do for insurance. Dr. T was very calming person with great energy and seems medically cautious (GREAT). I have never felt like he was in a rush, or he was not interested in what I was saying. His staff also has been easy to talk to and informative. He was very upfront about surgery risks and amount of weight that I could expect to loose. If I had to say something negative it would be I dont love the office. Very busy office with multiple doctors, and seems like a bus station at times, and the receptionist you have to leave a message and she then has to call you back, she never seems to answer the phone, which is frustrating in the early pre-surgery days. Now I call the nurse practitioner with any medical concerns, she sometimes answers or promptly calls back. Overall I love the dr and his staff I would recommend to anyone.
In the beginning, I felt like cattle being hurded through the pasture. I now realize this is an epidemic, and lots of people need help. The staff is a little shorthanded. I feel as the patients increase, the staff must adjust as well. I feel that nutrition should be more focalized so patients can better understand the new way of life. It is a rebirth, point blank. Doctor Tichansky does his best to make each patient get an understanding of the risk, explanation of the different WLS and there end results, and knows who is committed and who is not. Overall, I love Doctor T. I wish he had more time for me, however, I am a spoiled brat! LOLOLOL!!!!
I love my doctor. He is a great surgeon. He is the top guy and is highly published. That said that was not the reason I chose him. I used to work in a department of the hospital near the recovery room. I saw his patients come out of surgery and followed them in the hospital through the computer system. They never seemed like they were in any pain and were always out of the hospital with in a day. I worked in the Surgical ICU. His pateints NEVER ended up in our unit. rnHe has a wonderful after care program. His staff is friendly and helpful. I had a problem with a drug test after surgery...his nurse bent over backwards to help me get the information I needed. Dr Tichansky has the best bedside manner I have ever seen. He is honest and will tell you exactly why he does what he does. He has a very low complication rate. I have seen this with my own eyes. I think he is the best surgeon!
Dr. Tichansky has been great from the very beginning. He's been attentive to all my questions and concerns. He's been very prompt on returning my phone calls. My first impression of him was that he was extremely intellegent and well informed on all aspects of WLS and Multiple Sclerosis (a disease that I also have and have had since 2001). My impression of him has not changed at all about him over time except maybe that he is even a greater doctor than I initially thought. I guess the thing I liked least about him is that he didn't express too much concern when my 1 year labs came back alittle abnormal. One thing I would say that future patients should know about Dr. Tichansky is that if you are not familiar with the Germantown/Memphis area, his office is extremely difficult to find. Dr. Tichansky really emphasizes aftercare to you from the minute you wake up from surgery and you are able to talk to him and understand what he is talking about. He asks how you are feeling and then he starts talking about the next steps. He made me feel very safe and like I was in good hands. During all of my appointments before surgery, we talked about the risks of having WLS surgery. He allowed me to ask any questions that I had and he addressed them. Then he gave me all the information that I had not asked about and even went back and touched on things that we had talked about in previous appointments and conversations. During the process of getting ready to have WLS, I saw Dr. Tichansky and his then partner Dr. Madan. They were both competent but Dr. Tichansky had the better bedside manner and seemed to be more knowledgeable about other diseases. Dr. Madan recently made a move to a clinic in Miami but when I did see him at UT Medical Group, I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with him. Dr. Tichansky has both surgical competence and bedside manner and is great at both. I have many doctors due to my many health problems not associated with my weight and Dr. Tichansky is by far my favorite out of all of them. He's always gone above and beyond to help me and answer all my questions. I have recommended him to several friends and family members that are seeking out WLS.
from the moment i met him, dr. tichansky was professional and caring. he took the time to listen to me and answer all of my questions. he was supportive from the get-go and i have been thrilled with all of my interactions with him. rnthe office staff is, overall, great. there have been a few instances with people not calling me back as quickly as i would like, but that's most offices in my experience. my case manager, nicole, is helpful but not very personable. rndr. tichansky definitely emphasizes after-care and is very serious about taking care of his patients. i have mentioned moving, and he insisted on helping me find a good bariatric surgeon for follow ups in the new place i move. i have been very impressed with dr. tichansky. rni would say his surgical competence outweighs his bedside manner, since he didn't come to my hospital room the day after surgery. however, in the office, he is excellent.rni would recommend UT medical group for bariatric surgery, definitely. dr. tichansky is the best, but i'm probably only under that impression because he was my surgeon. :)
