Dr David May is my second opinion doctor after moving up to Pitman from Franklin Twp; I know of the hospital which is in NJ and affiliated w/ Jefferson; He was a nice gentleman and went thru all the ins and outs in his informative booklet; I also met w/ his nutrional expert in Woodbury who was a answwer to my prayers; SHE WAS great; I am rethinking going to Bridgeton not due to my love for Dr Iqbal but the after care for me needs to be closer to home and also this Hospital is familiar to my family and friends; This office was in practice for general surgery for years; and Dr May does only one perweek so he is sure to do a complete overview; the staff is friendly and answers myquestions; ANYone who has used dr May please email me; thanks Lynda IN NJ

He seems to be very sure of himself and answers all questions you have. I have only met him one time I go back on April 30th to set THE date. the staff seems very nice and friendly. He has a great dietician that works with him that you MUST see before having surgery with him. She is very good about all phases of the " eating" process from day 1 to day 365.

When I first met Dr May I was very impressed in just how comfortable he made me feel along with my friend that was with me. She had already had the surgery done at a different hospital but the more we talked we learned that Dr May had trained under her doctor. When we met with Dr May we had all types of questions for him and except for two he answered everything before we had a chance to ask. It was great he was so open, and gave us all the time we needed. He never made me feel rushed or stupid by asking questions. Prior to surgery we have to meet with a nutritionist, have a psychic evaluation, blood work and any other tests that my specialist feel are warranted. There is no support group right in this imediate area and he mentioned that he had been talking with some of his patients to get one started and my reply was maybe I would be that person. If I could be able to help someone else that would make my life even happier. Dr May emphasized how important it is to follow the aftercare program and that he is just giving me a tool to help lose weight succesfully, but I had to also do my part. He made sure he told me about every risk there was in having the surgery including death. So far I would rate him a 10 on a scale of 1-10. Of course 10 being the best. I feel more comfortable with a good beside manner along with surgical compentency. I feel if I was told I had to have Bypass surgery on my heart to save my life I would do it, so why not this. I found his staff to be cordial and helpful, but the one thing that did bother me was the fact that the Dr only does surgery for Gastric Bypass on Tuesdays and I'm not quite sure why that bothered me. At least he doesn't have an assembly line. When I go back for my second visit I'm sure I will add a lot more to this picture.

Only saw Dr.May once since I am waiting for my psych release, I liked him and felt he had great hands. Office staff seemed ok, but did not have much contact. Since I only saw him once, we did not talk much about aftercare. However, I researched the after care. As for structured aftercare, I hope so. He listed the risks. My rating of Dr. May will be stated after surgery. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are important to me. Just a reminder, I only saw him once.

I found Dr. May to be very informative and patient while explaining the different types of surgery, why one is better than the other, and the risks and benefits to the surgery. I saw him on 1/8/03 and my second appt is scheduled for 3/4/03. I have been to see the dietition, pulminary specialist and gotten my psyc release. Dr. May gave me info on this site, which I told him I had already been to. When I went to see him, I took some of the printed research I had compiled from this and other sources. He was glad to see I had already done some research and we were able to discuss specific questions I had.
The only thing disappointing to me is that since Dr. Wernsing left the practice it is taking longer to get appts. My fist appt was supposed to be in Dec., but when Dr. Wersing left it got pushed back to Jan.

Dr was very nice ~ very informative!! Did not 'rush' me or make me uncomfortable at all!! Office staff has always been polite and friendly. The whole hospital stay is not something I look forward to. Was first seen by Dr. Wernsing and I am now with Dr. May.
