David Jenkins Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

I LOVE my surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in this kind of life altering experience. He is very straight forward and is willing to answer any questions that may arise. He cares a lot for his patients as people not just patients. I don't think I would have gone through with this procedure if it hadn't been for his professionalism and caring towards me as a person. He was great with me after the complications of my first surgery and did his best to set my mind at ease when I had to go back under for the blockage complication. His follow-up appointments were very thorough as well..

I met with Dr. Jenkins for the first time today. rnHe was very friendly, and had a lot of information to provide. I had heard good things about him already, and visiting with him confirmed it all. They were very professional but laid back at the same time. His staff was also very impressive. He addressed pre op information, aftercare information - such as ongoing nutrition or support classes. Overall I would rate him very high. When asked which is more important in a physician - bedside manner or competence - I would have to say that surgical competence is much more important, although bedside manner really helps a patient feel more connected with his/her physician. This team impresses me in both aspects. Dr. Jenkins and Major California work very well together to create a feeling of ease while introducing important information. rnrnrnUpdate: Dr. Jenkins is now retired from the Air Force. I dont know if he plans on practicing medicine privately or not. He will be missed! I feel so blessed that our paths crossed when they did.

Dr. Jenkins did my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on October 22, 2007. Since my surgery I have lost 90 lbs. from my highest weight ever. I am so happy he did my surgery as he is a very professional and caring surgeon. He explained to me that this type surgery was a safer option for me with such a high BMI. To have the Intestinal By-Pass was not a safe option for me. I really appreciated the way he explained things and how well he listened to my concerns and questions and answered each of them fully and was completely forthcoming with me. I have found my weight loss from this procedure to be much more desireable since I lose well following a healthy eating lifestyle and not too quickly that I am left with lots of sagging skin. This turned out to be such a blessing for me that I had this particular procedure. Thank you Dr. Jenkins, you have made such a huge difference in my life! Many blessings to you always.rnrnJudith SchellrnUSAF Retired

Well, First impression was hes very stern and knows his stuff i have total trust in him and what he does. He explained everything great he told me the chances of dieing of course that was the firs tthing out of his mouth, he has 2 other drs that do the surgry with him so i know i will be in great hands. The office staff is great also. I will post again after i know all the after care stuff to let everyone know.

My first impression of Dr Jenkins was nice. He was straight to the point and did not beat around the bush. He was able to answer all of my questions.rnrnThe staff in his office are very nice. I did not have to wait long and everyone was very encouraging. Dr Jenkins assistant Mr California was very nice and easy to talk with. He is a very personable person. rnrnAs time has gone on I have talked to people that know Dr Jenkins and all say wonderful things about him. Dr Augustonelli, my orthopedic, has know him for many years.rnHe said if he was having this surgery or any other he would want Dr Jenkins to preform it.rnrnDr Jenkins came to Eglin AFB, FL from Keesler AFB, MS. There he preformed 153 gastric bypass's. He did loose one patient, but not during surgery. The paitient died from blood clots. I amrnnot sure how long after. He has done several at Eglin AFB, but I am not sure on the exact number.rnrnDr Jenkins emphasizes that this proceedure is rnjust a tool to help you get the wieght off. He also tells you that you must get up and moving.rnHe says eating properly and execise are the key and keeping all of your follow up appointments. rnrnHe was very blunt on the risks of surgery. He got straight to the point, you could die, blood clots, infection, etc... He did add that most risks are treatable if caught in time. He said do not hesitate to call or come in if I thought something was wrong. It is better to be on the safe side.rnrnOverall I feel I am in good hands and feel things will go smoothly. I personally think surgical competence is the most important. rnI would prefer to have someone who knows what they are doing rather than someone who is trying to butter me up just to get another surgery under his belt.rnrn

Dr. Jenkins was very very kind, and answered any and all questions that I had. He gave me stats, and was very happy to put my mind at ease. rnDr, Jenkins came from Keesler Air Force Base, in Biloxi,MS to Eglin Air Force Base in FL. rnI have talked to a few people at Keesler, and they all love Dr. Jenkins and want him back so much, thank the lord we have him now!rnrnWell I had my surgery on Dec 29, 2006, and Dr, Jenkins has been great!! I just went in for my 3 month fallow up, and he said I am doing wonderfully, he is very careing and again, asked me to let him know anything, and asked if i has more questions. He never run's me out of the office, and always makes sure I am happy, and I have nothing else on my mind!!rnHe is a wonderful Dr. and I am so thankful I have him!!rnrnCrystal Smithrn

I found Dr Jenkins to be very knowledgable and friendly. I have met him only once. The staff is really friendly and supportive. There is alot of emphasis on support groups and aftercare. The risks were not glossed over and he made sure I understood them. My husband was with me and was also asking questions. So far he gets a great rating but will know better after the surgery!

Dr. Jenkins was the head of my surgery team. Team members were Dr. Riley, Dr. Jackson, Dr.Mann and Dr. Dockendorf. They all were the most excellent of the excellent. ALL were extremely caring, concerned and kind. I have ABSOLUTELY no qualms about recommending any and all of them. As far as I am concerned, God put these 5 men on earth just for me and my surgery. That sounds snobby, but that is exactly how these Docs make you feel. There are not enough words in the universe to competently explain the merits of these Docs. They are supreme!
As for the negatives, the only bad part of the surgery and hospital stay was having to stand for the barium leak test (I have degenerative arthritis in both knees and CAN'T stand), drinking the barium and drinking the potassium (mine was low). And of course, the soreness!
