Dr. Boynton is very nice and knowledgeable. He isn't much of a talker though. The office staff seems nice. He requires you to go through Virtua's New Beginnings program before he will perform surgery. So far I like him. He is an excellent surgeon.

Dr Boynton, my first impression was that he was very knowledgable. He put me at ease and explained the procedure thoroughly. He and his office staff were always very accomodating and helpful. I can't say enough about how nice they were!! Dr Boynton is a very competent, wonderful surgeon. I would recommend him to any of my family or friends if they ever needed to go through this procedure. I rate him overall on a scale of 1-10, a 10 definitely. He recommends that you attend the support group New Beginnings before, during, and after the procedure. It is a wonderful support system, they are a great group and make the surgery and care so much better. I think all hospitals should have a professional program such as this. The whole system is set up for success and it works. I had no complications, and the whole experience was positive for me. I can't find anything negative to tell anyone about this. It's been a blessing in my life, and I'm very thankful to all that helped make this happen for me. This of course is all my opinion. I'm sure that someone might have had a very different experience. I am just glad that it wasn't bad for me. Good luck to you if you are about to embark on this journey. RNY is a great tool. Use it wisely and benefit greatly.:)

Dr. Boynton, there isn't enough words in the dictionary to describe what a great guy he is. I feel safe and secure under his knife. He put me at ease, answered all my questions, and has been very courteous. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon. Knowledgable, considerate, straightforward. I have nothing negative to say about him, I don't think anyone else who's gone through him has any either. I would recomend him to anyone interested in WLS.

My first impression was that of a kind, caring, aand gentle Dr.
That is still pretty much my opinion only more so. He truly cares about what he does and about his patients.
His staff, I found to be friendly and efficient.
Future patients should know that I beleive him to be a skilled, through and kind Dr.
He emphasizes aftercare 100% by insisting you be a part of the "New Beginnings" program
By being part of the program you go to an "Orientation Program" where the surgery is explained in detail and all the risks and likley complications are layed out for you.
I think he is a top surgeon because of his skill and thoroughness.
I beleive that surgical competence and beside manner are both important but competency is really #1 in my book..

My family physician recommended Dr. Christopher Boynton. He said several of his other patients went to see him and were all doing very well. So I made the appointment and waited about 2 months to get in to see him.

My first impression was that Dr. Boynton is a very quiet person. He patiently answered all my questions, after giving me an overview of what to expect with the surgery. Though I went in hoping to have LAP surgery, he informed he only does RNY open and explained his reasons for doing so. I felt very comfortable with him, and I asked him point blank about any complications his patients have had or had any died on him. He answered very honestly I thought and without any cockiness or smugness you sometimes get from surgeons. Later on, I met one of his OR nurses, who also had the surgery done and she said he's one of the most consciencious surgeons she's ever met. He never rushes a surgery for any reason. You know the phrase, "Still waters run deep" and "not a man of many words". Those both describe Dr. Boynton to a "T". My husband got a little frustrated because he wasn't a "chatty" doctor, but I don't care if the man would chat or not, just as long as he knew what he was doing! By the way, he operated on both my husband and I the same day - both of us came through with flying colors - no complications and very manageable pain levels.

The only way Dr. Boynton will do the procedure on you, is if you join the Virtua Health New Beginnings program. This is a year long program that requires you to attend nutrition classes, weekly support group meetings and have periodic one on one evaluations with personal trainers, a pyschologist and a nutritionist. The program is a little over $2000.00, which seemed a bit steep to me at the time, I now firmly believe was WELL worth the cost (and we had to pay it times two because my husband had the surgery too!). The support group is excellent and the case workers are wonderfully supportive ladies, who go out of their way time and time again to assist you in anything you need. This program was created with the help of Dr. Boynton and I agree with him that it is critical to attaining success with this surgery.

While I didn't appreciate this at the time, I guess because I was staring at a $4000.00 price tag, I now realize that Dr. Boynton really cares about your aftercare. He wants you to succeed with your weightloss. If he was only concerned with the surgery, I suppose he wouldn't have bothered putting the New Beginnings program together. I've come to be even more grateful that I used him for this surgery, because he made tools available to me that I might not have thought of seeking, had he not set up this program.

The only true frustration we felt from time to time was when dealing with his staff. There are many of them and from time to time you get attitude. The best way around it is to "kill them with kindness". I would call as many times as I needed to, regardless of what I was told. Persistance is the keyword to making sure all your paperwork is in order, which is needs to be before he'll schedule you a surgery date.

Overall, I think Dr. Boynton is an excellent, competent surgeon and would highly recommend him to anyone interested in GBS. If you have to wait to see him (he's getting quite popular), so be it, for something like this, the wait is worth it!

(P.S. With regards to the New Beginnings bill - You can use it as a tax write off and/or, if you have an FSA plan at work, you can use that towards the cost. Just have Dr. Boynton's office write an RX up saying you're joining New Beginnings for weight loss purposes.)

My experience with Dr. Boynton and his staff has been an overall positive one. He is a very nice and gentle physician. He is a wealth of information and skill.

His staff is courteous and helpful although sometimes exasperating. Dr. Boynton requires participation in the hospital based before and after surgery care program (which is a good thing) but when you are first hit with all of these things you have to do to even get near a surgical date it is very overwhelming. His staff, I think, are each educated on their specific part they play in the big picture and none of them understand the process completely - so they are not as understanding as they could be some times (but I think it is just a lack of education on their part).

Before deciding to move forward with the surgery, talk to Dr. Boynton, others who have had the surgery, your friends, family and research everything. Once you have done that, realize that it didn't take you a little while to get obese and it will not take a little while to get you to the OR.

Dr. Boynton recommends highly that you continue participation in the hopsital based program after surgery so that you can succeed.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Dr. Boynton, who was recommended to me by my primary physician. In fact, my husband and niece are next up for the surgery.

He comes off as the strong silent type and seems to have a good sense of humor. He is extremly picky about patient having all tests and approval from other drs. before he give ok for surgery.
Very kind and efficient

I would have liked to spend more time with him

He is a stickler for having all your paper work in before he will see you a second time

Strongly, he has a whole program designed for his concerns

He briefly discussed them.

I feel that he is careful, smart, not to ambitious and approachable

Not having had my surgery yet I cannot say.

I am extremely happy with my surgeon. He is absolutely the best. His staff is also top-notch.

His after-care program has to be the best.

Dr. Boynton was wonderful. He came into the room and I was instantly comfortable with him. He was very friendly and didn't look at me like I was disgusting or anything. He explained everything to me, answered all of my questions. It didn't hurt either that he is very good looking. His office staff is wonderful too. They are all nice, there is nothing at all that I didn't like about this doctor or his staff. His bedside manner and surgical competence were incredible. I just wish there was some way that I could thank him for what he has given me. Dr. Boynton strongly insists on an aftercare program, New Beginnings at Virtua Hospital.
