My first Impression of Dr. burrowes was that he was, right to the point. He wanted you to know all the facts about the surgery and to know that the surgery is just a tool. He also made me feel that he wanted to know that this is really what i wanted and that i knew all the pro's and con's about it. As time went on in our session i felt more comfortable with him. I feel he is really a nice person and a very good doctor. His office staff has been very helpful to me and always very plesant with me. I think the the thing i didnt like the least was the office lobby. It could use a few touch ups. I give Dr. burrowes a 10. I think both bedside manners and surgical competence are really important.I do have to say that this was just my experience with the doctor and his staff but i have heard very good things from other people aswell. You have to make your own judgment about your experience with the doctor and his staff.

Dr Burrowes seemed kind of stand offish at first but after talking to him for a while he is very sweet but very proffesional. He wants to make sure you know exactly what you are doing and that you know all the risks associated with this surgery and that this is a tool not a cure. He told me he wanted to give me time to think about what I was doing to make sure I really wanted to have the surgery so He held my chart for two weeks before sending it off to the insurance company for consideration. His office staff is really super sweet and very helpful. I would call to check on how my insurance was coming along and they would always know exactly who I was and where my case was at that point and time.

My visit to Dr. Burrowes was on January 16th, 2002. I had heard alot about this man and was happy to finally meet him and discuss my decision. When I first arrived at the office, Marilyn (the receptionist) greeted me, asked several questions, and gave me more paperwork to fill out. Whenever I had questions or didn't understand something, she was more than helpful in explaining it to meShe didn't give me the impression that i was a dummy or that i was wasting her time. After filling out paperwork, I met with Catherine (another employee) and she asked me what i knew about the surgery and a few other questions. He was very informative. After watching several videos, my consultation with Dr. Burrowes finally began. He explained every minute detail to me about the surgery, as well as answered the questions I had thought of. I had written down several questions for him, but he had already answered everything during his consultation. Dr. Burrowes is also very intuitive, because he sensed tension durong the consultation, and made sure he had answered all of my questions and scenarios. He explained everthing in detail, from the good to the bad. He said he never wants to misinform or mislead his patients.

Overall, Dr. Burrowes is a very sincere and honest man. I rspect him most for his honesty. When i asked his questions, he never beat around the bush. He does not sugar-coat anything. He has been in the business for several years and he has a wonderful bedside manner. His staff is friendly...ALL THE TIME. It doesn't matter how busy they are, they take time for you.
I would trust them with my life, believe it or not!!

Dr. Burrowes Office… The wait period is long so bring something to read. The staff is very busy… be prepared to wait. My appt. was @ 10:30 am, didn’t see Dr. Burrowes until around 1:00 pm. When we finally met, he was a very serious, very knowledgeable. He takes the time to speak with you one on one. He wants to make sure you understand and make the right choice. He makes drawings to show you the different surgery procedures. Even though I had to wait, I appreciate the way he took his time in full detail about everything. I waiting, wish me luck.

First impression? Very serious individual, like a strict parent. Seemed to be very interested in making sure surgery is what you want.

How did your impression change over time? He cares a lot more than his initial demeanor lets on, he is very passionate about this work and about helping people feel better and get healthy.

How would you describe his/her office staff? Very friendly, but a bit too skimpy with the details, particularly with dates, and filling out forms for things like short term disability. Great at scheduling appointments. Good about returning phone calls.

What did you like least about him? No negatives so far, it's been an all around good experience.

What should future patients know about him? It can be difficult to get an appointment, be prepared to wait a few months for that first appointment.

How did he address the risks of surgery? There is a video and a thick but slightly out of date information packet. You also must read and sign a document/release, which specifically points out all the risks, it is a bit intimidating. Dr. Burrowes also went over the <.02% operative mortality numbers. Still scary!

How would you rate him/her overall? EXCELLENT!

Which is better, surgical competence, beside manner, or both great? Surgical competence is excellent. U have to get used to Dr. Burrowes personal style. He obviously cares a great deal about each of his patients welfare, but equally wants to convey the seriousness of your decisions regarding this surgery. This seriousness can come across as a little cold initially, but this is certainly not the case.

I met with Dr. Burrowes after my appointment was moved up due to the doctor going on
vacation. Needless to say, I was quite excited by this prospect. My appointment
was originally scheduled for 9/13/00, but I received a call from the office and they
offered to get me in on 8/24. Dr Burrowes was staying late on this day in an effort to
see any patients that wanted to come in prior to his vacation. I was impressed with his
thouroughness and the time he took to answer all of my questions. Part of the process included
watching a video of the actual procedure. I thought I would be somewhat squemish but it hooked
me early on and I found myself leaning closer to see everything. Dr Burrowes did go over
the risks of surgery and the fact that patients must be mentally prepared for this
life altering procedure. Dr. Burrowes also makes himself available for any additional
questions you may have after your visit. His office staff is also quite helpful and
never make you feel like you are bothering them. It did seem to take awhile to get my
psych evaluation authorized. However, when I called my insurance company to move things
along, they were quite helpful. Dr. Burrowes does emphasize aftercare and also has a support
group that he recommends you attend before and after surgery. He also advocates excercise and
gives you advice on how to do so safely. I've only met with Dr. Burrowes once, but I have had
extensive communication with his office staff while arranging my initial visit, pre-op testing
and my psych evaluation. Again, they have never once made me feel like I was a bother to them.

My first impression about Dr. Burrowes was good. He was very imformative and drew out pictures to show me the diffrent procedures he performs.
I 've only spoke with him that one time during consultation. With all the videos and information he provided, to be honest i havn't had the need to speak with him.
His office staff is very, very busy. I had a problem at first with getting calls returned back to me and noone ever called me to advise me that everything is in process or had been submitted to the insurance company, no courtesy call non what so ever. I initiated all calls and i was on it. I then started to receive calls form Monica because i feel they saw that i was on it. As I stated before, I knew they were busy and i can respect that, but I still feel that with me having started the procedure around may of 2001 and had completed all procedures, someone could of called me with some type of information because i honestly felt that they had forgotten about me. With me calling them so often, I had started to feel like I was getting on their nerves and maybe it was me. But i did get approve and that had something to do with the hietel hernia which was approved first. The office had to keep submitting forms for the approval of the actual gastric bypass.
One thing i most say is that Dr burrows stated to me that this will be a major change in my life and there is no going back once it's done. He said that the fobie pouch was 4000.00 and insurance would not cover this but I decided that I wanted what the insurance would cover. He did say that death was the major risk but I look at it like this, death is the major risk period for me being in the condition I'm in. So I will go through with the surgery and leave everything in the hands of God. Overall at this point, I would rate Dr. Burrows at a 8 only because even though I have been approve for surgery, I have not had it yet. Plus, I beleive I played a mjor part in getting it approved because I was calling bc/bs of ga every day and after I called the insurance co. I turned around and called the Dr office so that they knew I was on it. I recommend that you call the insurance as much as possible if you see thing are going a little to slow.
