My surgeon was excellent. Apart from having a rapport with his patients, I felt I was more than just another face. The procedure I was undergoing - Gastric Bypass was explained to me. I got to meet him twice for consultations. He spoke excellent English, a plus, considering this was Belgium. My procedure and immediate recovery was so quick... I was pain free by the fourth day, no pain meds. My incisions have absorbable stitches, which means I do not need to have them removed. I could not have been happier with the way my surgery was handled. I had insurance, so I did not have to pay a bill, neither did I see any. The staff at the hospital could not have been nicer, at the press of a button there was someone by my side to attend to my needs. I loved the atmosphere at the hospital, I would recommend AZ-St Jans, Brugge, Belgium, and Dr. Dillemans in a heartbeat.

I decided to travel abroad to have surgery in Belgium. i was quite nervous about the operation and everything until I met Dr Dillemans in person. I immediately felt safe and comfortable knowing that he would do my surgery. Everything went exeedingly well and I was on pain medication for less than 36 hours. His bedside manners are as good as can be ad he came visit every day I was hospitalized to check up on progress. His office staff as well as the nurses were all very friendly and always helpful. I would not be able to pick which is better his surgical competence or his bedside manner. His surgical competence is just out of the question and his bedside manner is great as well. I am very very happy that Dr. Dillemans is my surgeon.

Dr Dillemans is a very charming and pleasant man. He was very personable and had a good bedside manner ( good-looking too!!). His staff were all very helpful, although the nursing staff didnt seem to speak much english. The aftercare has left a lot to be desired. Their website claims to have 5 aftercare locations in the UK - that has infact gone down to one - in London. This is a pain for me to get to. The other centers never got off the ground for some reason. I initially went to Birmingham couple of times, but the doc decided to stop doing the fills, so I was dropped with no warning! rnDr Dillemans is a very competent surgeon although I only saw him for my first appointment the day before my surgery, in the anaesthesia room and lastly the next morning before I was discharged from the hospital. On the downside - It was a bit of a production line - 5 of us from the UK were done in the same day and the only pain relief was amenocetaphen (paracetamol) not good for those with a low pain threshold!

Dr. Dillimans was very suave and confident. He had a great bedside manner and would gladly keep explaining until you fully understood everything. He was extremely professional with a hint of humor thrown in.rnrnHis staff was nothing but superb. Since he's in a different country, most of my organizing was done via email. His staff really kept me updated and answered all my questions and took care of everything I would need. Besides being professional they were also just plain friendly!rnrnDr. Dillimans is one of the best bariatric surgeons in the world and has loads of experience. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone!

Very professional and experienced surgeon. Support staff is friendly and accomodating. I was nervous about going overseas for my surgery, but everyone spoke English fluently and was so easygoing that I really shouldn't have been nervous at all.

I haven't met my surgeon in person as yet. Will see him the day before surgery.

Dr Dillemans very proffesional and has his ops down to a fine art, a bit like a production line but rather than wait for surgery in UK I chose to go privately and have the op done asap

The spelling of his surname is actually Dillemans.rnrnWhat was your first impression of him/her? rnrnFirst impressions, okay but he seemed more interested in getting his payment and acted very distracted until I assured him I had the money and handed it over. His attitude changed after that.rnrnHow did your impression change over time?rnrnI didn't see him after the initial visit (day before surgery), although I was led to believe I would. rn rnHow would you describe his/her office staff? rnrnMajority of office staff were nice, with the exception of one (isn't there always), she made a holy show of me, and nearly had me in tears about my registration. At a nervous time like pre-op, its the last thing you need!rnrnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnrnHis fixation with money alone. The rest was fine prior to surgery.rnrnWhat should future patients know about him/her? rnrnWhile he supported me for about 3 weeks after surgery, he did not want to know me after this period. I now have no aftercare and I am quite ill, I have nobody to turn to.rnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? rnrnSee answer above :-(rnrnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? rnrnNornrnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery?rnrnNot as much as I have heard others saying what their surgeon said. I just got the 1% of patients die 'Although none of mine ever have'. How true that is, I do not know. rnrnHow would you rate him/her overall? rnSurgical ability 100%rnProfessional Manner Pre-Surgery 100%rnProfessional Manner Post-Surgery 10%rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?rnrnI think you need both in order to have a happy patient, surgical competence of course would be higher on the list, but to have a doctor that cares means alot.

Very nice Dr. And handsome too! The hospital was St. Janns in Brugge, Belgium. Very clean and professional. The staff were very nice and helpful. The nurse visited my hotel room post-op to change my dressings and give me more pain meds.rnrnThe only negative was the pain meds. (paracetamol) They were very mild, and did not seem to cut the pain very much. Wish they had given me something stronger.
