Dr. Coirin is very personable. I immediately felt comfortable with him.
The office staff is very young. I had waited several months before completing my required testing (ie, psychological evaluation) and they were great at sending me reminder notes every month.
However, once I had those things completed, I called to verify that they had recieved the report so that it could be put in for approval with my insurance and it took 3 phone calls before anyone got back to me. (This is just my experience, I realize that they are a busy staff dealing with 2 bariatric surgeons)
I like best about Dr. Coirin is his easy going personality, it put me at ease in a rather nerve wracking situation.
Yes, there is a rather structured aftercare program.
The risks of the surgery have been gone over and over and over. This began with the group seminar which Dr. Coirin was present, as well as my one on one visit with him.
So far, *pre-surgery* I think Dr. Coirin is wonderful!
I believe that both surgical competence and bedside manner are important. I can't really rate him yet. I will get back to you on this topic! :)
Dr Coirin is a very good surgeon. Because of that he is also vey busy. I usually see one of his PAs and his staff is very friendly and accomodating. My experience with him and his staff has been very good and I have recommended him to friends and acquaintances. I would do it again and I would pick him as my surgeon again.
Probably the only negative thing is the fact that because he is so busy he doesn't really have any time to personally relate to his patients.
I believe he's a very competent doctor who's been doing this surgery for the past 15 years and has an excellent sucess rate. I feel as though he is always there for me if I need him. With all his duties he still finds time to attend our support group once a month..Very impressive. His staff is just as wonderful as he is. I applaud them all. Dr. Coirin has a very structured aftercare program. He also went over all the possible risks and side effects of the surgery before performing the surgery. I would rate this surgeon as superior and I can do nothing but rate him an A+ in all areas. Of course these are just my personal thoughts and feeling of this particular surgeon.
Dr. Coirin was exceptional from the moment we had our first meeting. He was always very thorough and never made you feel like you were just part of his own "assembly line" of patients. He took very care of you, not only physically, ofcourse, but mentally and emotionally also. I was only 22 when I had my surgery, about 3 yrs ago, and EXTREMELY scared and completely nervous. He made sure that you were put at ease, not only on your post-op visit, but long before in the beginning of this grateful journey. All my family was welcomed in the office to ask any question or voice and concern that they may have. All his answers were complete 210%. There wasn't ever any "beating around the bush" or acting as if they werent important because they werent the patient. The office staff as a whole made you feel like you were just as important as the patient before and after. If ever I was left in the waiting room it never went unacknowledged. Apologies were gladly given. What always surprised me was how they remembered all the names of everyone. At first I thought I was special, remembering my name (smile). Then I noticed that it was patients (post-op and pre-op) that walked in the office after me and so on. Wonderful surge of appreciation and comfort was overwhelming. While I was in the hopsital after the procedure, I was offered either a keepsake of a teddybear or a pillow. I chose the pillow. All the nurses came and signed it and Dr. Coirin was one of the first. This was one of his amny visits into my room. He emphasized and made sure I was hearing and understanding all the aftercare instructions. All my worries and concerns, he, seemingly, made his own.
I first met Dr. Coirin @ the seminar and right away, I liked him, he was the one giving all the info and I just thought "this guy makes me feel comfortable with the procedure" I have to admit I really didnt know much about the actual procedure, and I couldnt believe how straight forward he was about the risks and complications, It was great, he didnt try to hide anything, or sugarcoat it, he let you know exactly what could happen, and that dont think that it cant happen to you, I really really liked him alot for that, because I thought about having this surgery done 5 years ago, in San Fran, and the doctor there just didnt seem to really know what the surgery was all about, and I was thinking to myself, hmmm if she doesnt know what she's talking to me about, is she going to know what shes doing when shes inside my body. So, I walked away and thought my dream of becoming thin and healthy was out of the question, until I went to the seminar. I went to my first meeting with Dr. Coirin @ the office, and I was really nervous, I just kept thinking to myself, "He's done this a thousand times, why would you be any different." the office staff was very helpful, they treated me really great, and they made me feel like I had been there plenty of times before, which was a really great feeling. If a complete stranger were to come up to me and ask, "Who would you recommend for my surgery?" I wouldnt hesitate one bit on giving them my doctors name. I had my surgery on 01/31/05 and I had a problem with my legs on the day that I was supposed to go home, they swelled up and my feet and legs hurt so bad and I didnt know what was going on, Dr. Coirin came into see me for my discharge and I told him what was going on, and right away, he told me, that I should stay one more day so that he could get a sonogram done, it wasnt even 1 hour later that i was done with my sonogram, talk about great care, he wanted to make sure that I didnt have blood clots forming, and he made sure that my health and care was taken care of fast. If you havent been able to tell so far, I have not one bad thing to say about my surgeon, or his staff, I am 100% satisfied with him and thank him each and everyday in my prayers for caring for me and for helping me on my brand new journey through life.
