When I met Dr. Coirin at pre-op appt. I knew at that moment he was my Dr. he is very soft spoken and sat down to answer all my questions. when I asked about patient success rate with lapband, he was quite honest and said he has some patients struggling with slow weight loss.rnI did have to request my pre-op with Dr. C to his staff, otherwise I would not have gone though the surgery without meeting him.rnDr. Coirin is awesome, I would recommend him toanyonernrnWow! new information Memorial ia now a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence rn4-2-2008
I met Dr. Coirin briefly (for only a few seconds) just before surgery. My first impression was tall & confident. The next time was the day after surgery in my hospital room (again for only a few seconds). And the third and last time was the second day after surgery so I could be released (again for only a few seconds). I was given the opportunity to ask questions but really didn't have any. I felt that I was in good hands and trusted him. rnrnDr. Coirin's Physicians Assistant is extremely knowledgeable. rnrnMy only complaint within his office is with one specific person who handled my insurance submittal. I had to wait 3 weeks without a response from my Insurance Company before she would call to follow up. I finally called myself and was told they had never been received. It took another week or so for her to turn it in. She finally faxed it on a Friday and I was approved on Monday. I hate to complain and it is possible that she sent it but it wasn't received. The time between submitting all your required documentation until the time you receive word on whether or not you are approved is a very emotional time. I made sure that I was not a pest. My advice for anyone else who wants to know their status with the Insurance Company is to call them yourself. I should have done that after two weeks but didn't realize I could.rnrnDr. Coirin's & Dr. Coates' program is comprehensive. The aftercare is greatly emphasized with appropriate follow up classes & appointments. The risks of surgery were communicated throughout their entire program.rnrnOverall, since my surgery is successful so far post-op (1 week), I would rate Dr. Coirin very high. rnrnSurgical competence is definitely better but since Dr. Coirin's program includes so much education, it is wasn't that important that I got to know him much. If their program wasn't in place and so thorough, it would have made a huge difference.
My first impression of Dr. Coirin was that he was a gentle caring person. His office staff have been very helpful through this journey. I wish I could of met him before surgery, but hes a busy guy. He has a very good outlined aftercare program, that should be followed to the t. I think I trusted him, with my life, because of such a successful rate he has, and every physician that I told, said \"wow, you picked an excellent surgeon, he is a master at lap. surgeries.\" Just makes me feel better, and more at ease. Nice man.
My first impression of Dr. Coirin was he seems to be pretty laid back and funny. That was at the seminar I went to pre-op. The only other time i ever saw him was the morning of my surgery. I was the first patient of the day and he came in asked if there were any questions and such and was very focused. Then i think the best part was when i was being wheeled down to the operating room, i was greeted by everyone of the nurses and physicians at the door all smiles and truley seemed excited for me! His office staff is amazing i swear they work miricles!!!! The thing i liked the least about Dr. Coirin was i only saw him at the seminar and the hospital a little more one on one attention would have eased my nerves a bit more i think but he is an awesome doctor. Aftercare is a major part with him. Any question you have, support groups and post-op nutrician classes are a must!!! Im going to say all in all this whole experience has been 9 out of 10. Like i said i would have liked to see him more but i do trust in his ability him and his staff are sooooooo knowlegable and caring.
I haven't Personally met Dr. Coirin although, he was the one giving the seminar that I had the pleasure of attending. I also didn't get to meet him during my consultation but, I met his P.A. Daryl. He was very nice. The staff was pretty helpful especially, Sandy and Christie. Dr. Coirin seemed to be a very smart, calm, gentle-like man. To tell you the truth, it doesn't matter which doctor (Coates or Coirin)I choose as my surgeon, they're both very good at what they do. And, they take all the precautions to make sure that their patients have a good quality of life. I personally know some of their patients and their lives have been transformed for the better. I don't really have anything negative to say about their practice yet, (lol) except, I wish their time frames on certain things could be more solid. But then, I'm asking for perfection and we all know there is no such thing.rnrnTootles everyone!rnrn
1-29-08 I am posting this because if it wasn't for Dr. Coirin and his wonderful staff, I would still be sitting on the fence trying to decide what to do.. Thank you Dr. C.. I am five years out today! Remember? I couldn't have asked for anyone better to perform my life changing surgery!rnrn1/29/08 HAPPY RE-BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!rnWell today is January 29th definately one of the most important days in my life..5 years ago I had my gastric buypass surgery! And at this time in the evening 7:45 PM I had already been up and walking around the hallway... I can't believe that it has been five years! Time goes by so quickly, and I have been very blessed. We all go through transition in life and I have gone through mine, but somehow I have managed to use the tool that was given to me to stay health. At 5 years out, I have managed to maintain my weight.. I am not 165 which I only \"visited\" for a short time, but I realized that there is a natural place that my body is ok with being, and that range is between 180-190, My 5 year pictures that I just took today (wearing the blue tank top) I am at a cool 189 and feel great.. I am comfortable with wear I am. If I feel myself creeping... I just bear down and diet a bit so that I can maintain.. When I was in the 170's I was contantly criticizing myself for not being able to maintain a weight that my body obviously wasn't meant to be.. I am 5'9\" and I work out.. for me.. I just don't think that that is where I am suppose to be.. and in reality I feel as though as long as I am well under the 200 pound mark, I have achieved my goal. I am after all going to be 42 years young or as I like to say, \"I am celebrating the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday!\" There still is not a day that goes by that I am reqretful about having the surgery and I truly think that this was the right choice for me and many others out there. I am happy with who I am, where I am going and have learned to appreciate the person that I was because after all.. that was always just the outside person.. the core, the me inside has never chagned. Well for all of you out there.. celebrate who you are, and where you have been but most of all celebrate where you can go and believe me, if I can maintain after 5 long years.. so can you.. so today's quote is one from me..rnYOU are who you are, YOU can do what you set your mind to, 5 years or 5 minutes.. you are the same person, and you just have to be able to manage you.. not anyone else.. rnPeace and Love.. and again.. IF I CAN ANYONE CAN!!!!rnCJ~rnrnFrom the very beginning I felt as though Dr. Coirin was not only a wonderful surgeon, but a wonderful person. He truly understands the quest that those of us that have been heavy for most of our lives go through. My impression of him only gets better with each happy face that I see at the support group meetings. He is doing a wonderful job. His staff was very helpful and very excited to assist in any way that they could, and made the wait for approval much easier to bare. Future patients should know that Dr. Coirin is a wonderful surgeon with many years of laporoscopic experience. Dr. Coirin's surgical skills and beside manner are simply wonderful. I feel very fortunate to have had Dr. Coirin as my surgeon! rnCJ
I didnt see him much. I first met him at a class he gave with about 200 other people. I didnt even see him for my preop appointment the day before my surgery, I saw his P.A.. It wasn't until the morining of my surgery at hospital I met him. He is very nice and answered all my questions. I never saw him in the operating room. There was another Dr. there to greet me, who was to be assisting. I was out. Ater recovery in my room, he came in. he was good about notifying my family how everything went. I saw him a total of about 3 times during my stay. HOWEVER, I must say I felt no pain, I would have never known I had surgery had it not been for the incisions on my stomach! He must have done an excellent job! The program, classes and the competence of Dr.Coirin was amazing. The hospital, his staff and the whole program including aftercare are great. I'm so glad he was my surgeon.
I WAS VERY IMPRESSED UPON MEETING DR. COIRIN. HE WAS VERY CONFIDENT IN HIS WORK AND YET NOT CONCEIDED. I KNEW THAT THIS VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE IN MY LIFE WOULD BE IN THE BEST HANDS. I HAVE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT DR. COIRIN, FROM OTHER PATIENTS OF HIS AND OTHER PHYSICIANS. NOW WITH MY OWN EXPREINCE I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE. HIS STAFF KNOWS THEIR STUFF AND WERE VERY HELPFUL THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS. WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT DR. COIRIN WAS HIS HONESTY. I WAS TOLD OF THE GOOD AND THE BAD, AND IF THE SURGERY WASN'T RIGHT FOR ME HE WOULD HAVE SAID SO. HE PROVIDED ME WITH ALL INFORMATION I COULD POSSIBLY LOOK FOR TO ALSO HELP WITH ANY QUESTIONS I MAY HAVE HAD ABOUT THE LAP BAND. I WOULD DEFINATLEY GIVE HIM TWO THUMBS UP, HE DID A GREAT JOB AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. THANKS TO A NEW LIFE DR. COIRIN
