I have't met Dr.Wittgrove yet,but from what i know,he's one of the best bariatric surgeons out there.I'm totally confident that i'm making the right decision.I'll be meeting him in less than 2 weeks for my consultation and physical, then surgery 2 days later.I can't wait!! I'll be sure to update as soon as i can.
I would "highly" recommend Dr. Alan Wittgrove to anyone considering WLS. Dr. Wittgrove had and has excellent bedside manners, treated me with respect and kindness and explained step by step the procedure and answered any and all questions I had. I have had zero complications from my surgery and cannot say enough great things about Dr. Wittgrove who literally saved my life!!
Dr. Wittgrove was a lot younger than I thought he would be. I also was very comfortable with him. He was easy to talk to and gave me quite a bit of information. No question was left unanswered - and I am sure he has answered the same questions over and over! :) The staff is AWESOME! They are so nice and helpful. There is not one person that I talked to who wasn't friendly. I think people need to know that they are BUSY! Sometimes you have to wait for people to get back to you, which can be a bit frustrating. From what I have heard Dr. Wittgrove and the Alvarado Center are the gold standard for this surgery and I am very comfortable with my decision.
Dr. Wittgrove is the best baratric surgeon in the world and that is a known fact. Look him up, he is the elected President of the ASBS! I was thankful to have him doing my surgery. He has the most professional office staff I have ever met under one roof. I wish other offices would follow his rules. His staff takes pride in their work and lots of positive energy flows through the office. I can see why it is a very highly desirable place to work! Dr. Wittgrove asked me why I had choosen to have this surgery. I felt like it was a little late to be asking that, by this point I had already paid for a sleep study, psy eval, lab work, and my copayment for the surgery. However, I am sure he was validating I was doing this for the right reasons. Aftercare is huge with this group. If you just want the surgery and forget about follow up, your at the wrong place.
Dr Wittgrove was a very busy Dr the day I visited. At first i was very turned off and felt rushed with him, then eventually felt very much at ease. The office staff was the greatest. Everyone in the waiting room was thrilled with the professionalism and caring of the staff. Some of the staff are former patients and are more than happy to discuss their experiences. After care is very important. You must either call or come into the office once a month for post op check ups. They also has monthly support meetings as well as an after care exercise program if you live locally. Dr. Wittgrove was very thorough in his discussion of the risks of surgery. Especially since I had severe sleep apnea. He made sure I understood I was a "higher" risk patient. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence were great. He is one of the most popular weight loss surgeons in the country.
I met Dr. Wittgrove a few days before my actual surgery - that's the way it works when you are from OUT OF COUNTRY :)
Very pleasant man - willing to explain anything and everything you want/need to ask him.
Chose him because of his track-record and notoriety.
Very pleased with my outcome and his office's support program AFTER the procedure.
Rate overall: Excellent.
Had fine bedside manner but I didn't really care about that - as long as his hands know what to do in surgery - well, that's what counts for me!
I met Wittgrove for the first time on the 12th of April, 3 days before surgery. He is definitely running a Gastric Bypass factory. But, I would not want it any other way. The more you do something, the better you get at it. He is one of the fastest and best surgeons doing laproscopic gastric bypass tody. He pioneered the laproscopic variation. Even though I was only one of four patients seeing him on Friday, he answered ALL of my questions and never made me feel rushed during our consult.
