I work for four Internists (Martin Mollen, Michael Adickman, Ray Mahoubi & Leslie Paulus) and they have referred many patients to Dr. Newhoff for WLS. I was "warned" about his bedside manner before I had my initial consult, but I found him to be very to the point and he will do his part and very much expects you to do yours! Knowing that my employers have confidence in him as a surgeon makes me feel much better!

my first impression when he started talking was that he sounded somewhat arrogant, because he immediately told us not to ask questions or make comments until he was done speaking & asked if we had questions. as he continued talking my impression changed dramatically. he is not arrogant at all. he was very informative & has quite a sense of humor as he had us laffing more than a few times. his office staff, especially, cindy, seem to be very competent & friendly. i really didnt find anything about him that i didnt like. future patients need to know that he seems quite dedicated to his patients, their surgery & their after care. the nursing staff at the hospital r afraid of him because he makes u get up 2 hours after surgery to walk & then every hour & at nite every 2 hours. he is adamant about this & the nurses follow his dictate to the letter for fear of crossing him. he insists that u be a non-smoker at least 1 month before the surgery. he also insists that u start a walking program right away. he has a support group that he requires u attend but since i am from out of town it is ok if i attend the dr fobi support group here. he is very good friends with dr fobi & they often consult with each other on technique. he was very blatant about the risks of surgery & made no bones about them nor did he try to whitewash them. he has performed over 3000 open rny's & has a 0% mortality rate & less than 1% complication rate. i would rate him an 8 on a scale of 1-10, only because i didnt have a one on one visit with him. i didnt really pick up anything negative about him. he even eats his meals the same way he expects his patients to eat their meals. i got the distinct impression that he has a wonderful bedside manner & that his surgical competence is far above many. i of course prefer surgical competence over a bedside manner but getting both is great!

5 days post op & i knew dr newhoff was the surgeon for me!! god bless his hands so that he can continue to help others & save their lives as he has saved mine.

March 4 2002

my 6 week check up was scheduled for feb 8 2002. we were in florida at the time, meeting our very first grandchild who was born on 1/28. i called dr newhoff's office & explained to cindi, his office manager, why i had to cancel the appt. she took my hotel phone number, arranged a time for dr newhoff to call me & dr newhoff & i had a 6 week visit over the telephone. when i tell people this, most r shocked that dr newhoff took the time to do this. i wasnt even surprised that he did it because this is the kind of man/dr he is...caring, sensitive, compassionate & totally concerned about his patients.

My first impression of Dr. Newhoff was that he is very friendly but down to business and professional.
My opinion still is the same about Dr. Newhoff but now i consider his work part of my life and something that has changed my being.
The office staff is very nice and very helpfull.
I liked least... hmm thats a toughy i'll get back to it....
Dr Newhoff is Very straight forward and does not B.S. around. He stresses after care tremendously!!! And so Do I!!
An Aftercare program was given to me it was very reasonable and makes sense, nothing difficult and i eat now what I want to eat.
He addressed the risks by giving me information to read as well as answering all of the questions i (and my mother and father) have had. Over all i would say he is a great surgeon! He did a beautiful job and im very happy with my results. His surgical competence was much better then his bedside manner, not to say it was anything less then acceptable though.

Dr. Newhoff was very straight forward. He seems to be very confident in his abilities as this type of surgeon and that impressed my husband, who was leary at first. After my group consultation, I was put at ease, as was my husband.
At the time of surgery, Dr. Newhoff, was very confident and made me feel the same way. He was very well mannered when he came to visit post-op. He always made me feel that everything was going exceptionally well, which it was.

Dr. Newhoff is very up front and to the point. He will let you know what to expect from this surgery and what he expects from you. Just follow his recommendations and you will do well. I am totally pleased with Dr. Newhoff and his staff and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking the surgery.

He was fantastic I hold alot of confidence in him and the people from weight for life!

Dr. Newhoff is also a trauma surgeon. He expects you to follow his orders to a T. And he expects you to WALK, WALK, WALK after surgery. He was awesome. I highly respect him as a doctor. But he is not the one to make you succeed. You are that key.

His office staff is nice and helpful. Sometimes they are really busy though.

Because of his surgery schedule it does take time to get your surgery date.

Very easy going and confident. I liked that he'd been doing these surgeries for 23+ years and had a huge databse of patients with many success stories. His staff is wonderfull, and several members of his staff had surgery by him. I loved that I got to meet post-op patients. He really seems to love what he does. He really wants to keep up with his patients, his follow-ups are free and he has support groups that meet at the hopital that does his surgeries. He was frank and honest about the risks involved with this surgeries and how it compared to other abdominal surgeries. The worst thing I have to say about him is the waits in his office are awfull.I feel he is a great doctor. He is honest and caring toward his patients and is a good surgeon with a track record of minimal complications and near 100% success with this operation. I would recommend him in a heartbeat

I liked him very much and he was very complete in explaining the entire surgery and after care. The longer I knew him the more I liked him. He has great bedside manners and treats you like a human being. His staff at the office is wonderful. Very helpful with any questions and if unable to answer, Dr Newhoff will call you back personally. Future patients should definitely give him a chance. He will help you if possible. Aftercare is very important to him and to you. There is an aftercare program at Good Sams Hospital in Phoenix. He tells you everything you need to know about surgery and the risks. His overall rating is wonderful. He is helping me when no one else could. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. I had the surgery on the 21st of Nov 2001 and within the first six weeks I lost 46 1/2 lbs. That is the most I have lost in years and years. I can't find anything wrong with him or his staff. Even the hospital staff was wonderful.
