Dr. David Grantham, Bariatric Surgeon

David Grantham, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a leading bariatric and general surgeon that uses his surgical expertise at FirstHealth Bariatrics at Moore Regional Hospital located in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He attended North Carolina State University where he earned a BS in Biochemistry and graduated Summa Cum Laude and was valedictorian in 1998. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and completed his residency and internship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he also completed a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship.

As a board-certified surgeon, Dr. Grantham is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), is a member of North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (NC-ACS) where he serves as President, a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and a member of the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS).

Dr. Grantham was awarded the J. Rush Shull, M.D. Scholarship which is an award based on service to humanity and academic achievement. He co-authored and published several abstracts and has been appointed to numerous hospital committees including Bariatric, Endoscopy, Robotic, and Surgical Service Line Committees.

Dr. Grantham was inspired to dedicate his professional career to medicine after growing up around the medical field and seeing what a difference the doctors made in the lives of their patients. He chose to become a surgeon because it offered him the opportunity to identify a problem and greatly affect the outcome. He is dedicated to safe and effective patient care and continued education and support for long-term weight loss success.

Specializing in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery (da Vinci® Surgery System), Dr. Grantham performs bariatric surgery procedures including the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) and the Roux-en-Y (RNY). Additionally, he performs general surgical procedures including breast surgery, splenectomy, anti-reflux procedures, colectomy, adrenalectomy, cholecystectomy, laparoscopic hernia surgery, treatment of achalasia, and endoscopy.
