Bernie Hanna, MD, FACS is an internationally recognized bariatric surgeon, and the founder and Medical Director of Las Vegas Bariatrics. He is the Medical Director for North Vista Hospital that is a Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) accredited for excellence in patient care and safety. Dr. Hanna has practiced medicine in the Las Vegas Valley since 2000.

Dr. Hanna previously served as an assistant clinical professor for the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He also served as part of the trauma surgery team at University Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate degree at Barry University in Miami, Florida and earned his medical degree at Howard University Medical School and General Surgery where he also completed his residency.

He completed a Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery Preceptorship with Dr. Ninh Nguyen in Irvine, California and an Echocardiography Preceptorship at the V.A. Hospital in Miami, Florida. Dr. Hanna attended the National School of Technology and received specialized training in Applied Technology where he was class valedictorian.

Dr. Hanna is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgeons (ABS), a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS), the National Medical Association (NMA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Clark County Medical Society (CCMS), the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC), and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS).

Dr. Hanna is an award-winning surgeon having received Top Surgeon honors in 2002, 2003, 2011, and achieved the “Top Doctor” award for 2006 and 2007. He is the Editor in Chief of the Las Vegas Bariatric Health and Wellness Magazine and has authored numerous articles and abstracts. He stays at the forefront of surgery and bariatrics by being involved in surgical research and is a sought after presenter internationally.
