     Dr. Kara Wanchick is the only female, fellowship trained, Bariatric surgeon in the Jacksonville area and is Board Certified by the American College of Surgeons.  A graduate of Kent State University in Ohio in 2002, Dr. Wanchick attended The University of Toledo School of Medicine and made her way to the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia for Surgical Residency in 2006.  She became Chief Resident in surgery in 2010 and subsequently served in the US Navy as a general surgeon until 2015.  She deployed twice to Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf, and was awarded the US Navy Commendation Medal for her distinguished service. After honorable discharge from the Navy, she completed fellowship at the University of Miami in Bariatric, Metabolic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2016. She has a special interest in the surgical treatment of diabetes and other metabolic disorders, as well as the use of minimally invasive and robotic surgery to treatment complex surgical disease.    Dr. Wanchick is a dedicated, highly-respected and compassionate healthcare provider who understands the magnitude of what Bariatric surgery entails. With her primary focus being on Bariatrics, she knows the struggles that obese patients face and you can be confident that she will provide the highest quality care that you deserve. Dr. Wanchick feels that Bariatric Surgery is not a “one size fits all” and will thoroughly discuss all surgery options with you to ensure that you achieve the comfort and personalized care that you need to reach goals that you never thought were possible!
