William A. Graber, MD, FACS- Weight Loss Surgery Bariatric Center
I was very pleased with Dr. Graber at my consult. I had heard that he was not the warm and fuzzy type, and that didn't bother me, but actually I found him to be quite personable and also professional. His receptionist and nurse are very sweet and so helpful! The program seems very thorough, he stressed aftercare and the risks, but he made me feel at ease as well. He acknowledged there are risks with any major abdominal surgery, but that I was young, in good health and had no previous surgeries, so I guess that means I'm on the lower end of risk. Overall, I was very pleased.
Dr. Graber has become my lifeline. Without him I would still be miserable. I had a laparoscopic Roux-n-y performed on 10/2/02 and have felt wonderful since. Dr. Graber and his staff prepared me for the surgery and have been supportive since. I have willingly been a resource for others considering the surgical procedure and spoken to others who have had the surgery. I would recommend Dr. Graber highly without reservation, he is professional, honest and skillful. I was his second laparoscopic procedure and I trusted him immediately. I want to thank him again for giving me control of life again. If you are searching for warm and fuzzy may I suggest a stuffed animal, if you are looking for skill and competence, Dr. Graber is for you.
I met with Dr. Graber on 12/3/02. He was business like but not "stuffy". I liked his honesty in telling his personal experience in this surgery. He encourages research into WLS and any questions regarding the procedure. While I was speaking with his nurse he came right in to join in the conversation.
He was specfic about the complications of the surgery as they relate to my specific situation. He was also specific in what I could expect as an outcome of this procedure.
I guess I expected a more complete examination. In retrospect I have to admit that you do see other MDs (like a pulmonologist and a cardiologist) prior to surgery so he really doesn't have to do more in the office.
The office nurse was very helpful and encouraged me tocall with questions or concerns. She even invited family to do so. While I was in the office, the doctor's first patient was there and I had a chance to speak with her. It was great to meet someone who had had this done. In addition I was given a phone number of someone else to speak to.
I liked the fact that I could meet the surgeon right away. Another office I contacted has you meet with a nurse, a medical MD, dietician, physical therapist, and then you get to meet the surgeon. I want to meet him to know if this is who I wish to have do the surgery. Dr. Graber has not been doing GBS for a year yet but he has a long history of laproscopic experience. This weighs very heavy with me. (No pun intended!)
Dr. Graber is an absolutely wonderful surgeon, his office staff and his knowledge of the procedure are fantastic. I went into the meeting with a lot of knowledge and came out with even more. Dr. Graber was very open and available to answer any question I might have. Dr. Graber had done a previous surgery on me in 2001, and he has a wonderful bedside manner and will literally bend over backwards to help his patients. Another plus is his wonderful office staff, Donna his nurse and Terri his receptionist are very caring and professional women. I literally have nothing bad to say about Dr. Graber.
