At first I thought dr. barker was rather a rude person but realized that he wanted me to understand that I cant go on with my old habits and that I had to change to be the person I was expecting him to change with Wls.
His office staff was great. They did everything I n a timely manor and had dates set up ASAP.
There really isn’t much I really can say about least things I like about dr. barker.
He is caring and when I was in the hospital his bedside manor was wonderful.
He doesn’t talk much about after care however if you don’t want to be ragged on for making mistakes here and there then you might want to find another doctor. This doctor cares of he would not say anything.
Not really an after care program but he does attend a support meeting about every 3 months.
I would rate him an 8 if 10 were best. No one can be a 10 in my books.
He is a good doctor and does general surgery also. So competence and bedside manor are about the same.

He is very sweet and nice and understanding and is very down to earth.
He makes you feel great about yourself and you can ask him anything and he will answer you honestly and doesn't make you feel stupid.
He has a very nice office although it is a bit small and with all his great patients and employees I think he needs a bigger office.
Nothing I liked everything about him.
Future Patients should not be afraid to say anything to him or ask him anything. He has heard it all and really cares about the best for his patients and it really shows.

As for me, I counldn't have been more pleased with Dr. Barker. In every meeting with him he was professional, caring, and informative. His staff took to heart my situation and did there best to get things done and scheduled quickly. The only draw-back is the overflow of patients in the patient waiting room and the appointment times that come and go delaying getting in to see him about 30-60 minutes later than the scheduled appointment time. But, this aside, I am completely satisfied that I chose Dr. Barker as my surgeon.

My first impression was that he was CUTE!! He is very matter of fact and if you do not ask the question, he will not answer it. His front office staff have been very nice and seem genuine in their interactions. I have to admit that my biggest complaint is that once I had the surgery, I was on my own. Little to no information was provided and when I asked questions - yes, I had many, it seemed that Dr. Barker could not be bothered. BUT, as a surgeon, he is first rate. I have had NO complications and am healing very nicely. If you are one to do it on your own, he is the man for you. If you need constant reassurance then you need to have a long list of questions and ask until you understand. There is no emphasis on aftercare but he does discuss the risks.
Overall, I think he is a topnotch surgeon who needs someone to help him formulate a plan for the aftercare. If he had brochures to explain HIS practice and what to expect, moved out of the Mesquite hospital, and promoted an aftercare program - he would soar.

Dr. Barker was very nice at first. His insurance nurse worked really hard to get me approved quickly (4 days from Pacificare). However, he gives you no instructions on eating, excersice...anything for after surgery. He has a $35 book he wants you to buy before surgery, and tells you to get your answers in there, even if you don't buy the book. He doesn't like to be bothered after he performs the surgery.

I was very impressed with Dr. Barker and his staff. They have been extremely helpful in getting things together for my insurance compnay. The office staff is very friendly. They make you feel special and I don't feel like "just another patient".

I HAD PREVIOUSLY WORKED AS A SURGICAL NURSE IN HOSPITALS WHERE DR BARKER WORKED AND FEEL HE IS AN EXCELLENT SURGEON. WHEN WE FIRST MET AS DR/PATIENT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO EXPLAIN WHAT I NEEDED, HE WAS VERY MATTER OF FACT AND TO THE POINT. HE GIVES INFORMATION TO QUESTIONS ASKED DIRECTLY BUT AT TIMES IS VAGUE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO ASK. HIS OFFICE STAFF IS HELPFUL.
LIKE LEAST: HAVE TO SEARCH FOR INFORMATION ON MY OWN. PREOPERATIVE WHEN I ASKED FOR INFORMATION AT TIMES I FELT LIKE WAS BEING PUT OFF AND TOLD SOMEONE ELSE WOULD GIVE ME THAT INFORMATION AT ANOTHER TIME (THIS BY STAFF, NOT DR BARKER) THE RISK OF SURGERY WAS NOT A ISSUE FOR ME DUE TO MY KNOWLEDGE BASE AS A NURSE WHO HAD WORKED IN SURGERY I HAD A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE RISK. HE HAS A SUPPORT GROUP AND I AM STILL AWAITING MY FIRST POST OP VISIT. BOTH BEDSIDE MANNER AND SURGICAL COMPENTENCE ARE EXCELLANT.
I LIKE HIM AS MY SURGEON AND WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE SEEKING SURGERY.

Professional, clinical, not a man of many words, but has a reputation for being an excellent surgeon. I felt uninformed and he had no paperwork to read regarding the surgery. I had to research myself on the internet. But, he appeared nice and is very busy. My second meeting didn't change my opinion only reaffirmed it. But, the staff was good about reacting and getting things rolling.
They also seem very busy, but I believe that is because he has a successful practice. This is not his primary surgery and he hasn't been doing it long, but I believe he will offer more information as he gets input from his patients. The patients I have spoken to have been very pleased with his abilities as a surgeon, but also expressed the need to research themselves. The staff is kind and supportive and makes you feel comfortable. I'm looking forward to giving them some printed information that they can share with future patients.

Dr. Barker is a very nice guy and his staff is VERY helpful.

His staff has handled everything for me to include getting the other doctors I needed to see to move my appointments forward so that I may have surgery soon.

He was very informative as to the process, recovery and risk involved.
