Uyen Chu, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
Dr. Steven's treated me with such compassion and geuine concern for my health that I was at ease with him from the begining.
I had my RouxNY surgery on 9-24-03 and he came in to see me twice a day every day except the day he sent me home. He treated me as if I was the only patient he had. He took time to listen to my concerns and took care of all of my needs. He answered all my questions and made the surgery and after care in the hospital a very easy transition.
His staff is the most personable I have ever met. Every one there has a "Hi, how are you doing?" every time you go to the office. And always a smile from every one. They make you feel so special.
I do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Steven's or his staff, I owe him my health.
Anyone thinking about having the surgery should definately make an appointment to see Dr. Steven's. He has a great personality, he is a wonderful doctor and an absolutel terrific bedside manner. And he has a good sense of humor! He treats you as if he has all the time in the world to talk with you about your concerns at every office visit and he really CARES about you and your health.
Aftercare is the most important aspect of his program.
Yes, you see him 1 week post-op, then 1 month, then 3 months and now I will be seeing him for my sixth month checkup this month. After this it will be 6 months, which will be my yearly check-up and then I think every 6 months for a while. I have blood work done, weigh-ins and blood pressure checks and also monthly support group meetings.
He explained all the risks of this surgery to me on my fist visit. His office requires that you attend a group meeting prior to seeing him for the first time. One of the doctors is always at the meetings and you have patients that are post surgery that can answer any questions you might have as well as the doctors and the staff.
If I could go to him for all of my medical needs I would. He is the best doctor I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life. He is sincere and very competent. He is thorough and yet down to earth compassionate.
His surgical competence is excellent and his bedside manner can not compare with any other doctor that I have ever been to. He always has a smile for you and always takes his time to genuinely listen to what you have to say and addresses all concerns. I always leave there laughing and smiling. It is such a joy to have had the opportunity to be one of his patients!
Dr. Stevens is the best thing on this earth!!!!!!! When I first met him he was very understanding of my wants and needs. This only progressed with time! I have never had a Doctor care so much about me and my needs!! with each vist my respect and (awe) for him has only grown..... now i must admitt this goes also for his staff! For a more close knit organised group of people you have never met!
I went to a seminar that i saw advertised in the local paper. This was in september of 2002 This is where i met DR. Stevens and DR.Chu his associate I was very Impressed with both of them and there staff. The seminar was great and all questions were answered. They weighed everyone who wanted and gave us our BMI this was the first time i ever heard of a BMI! Plus I was impressed the scales actually weighed me.The seminar was great i felt completly at ease talking with DR.Stevens SO I signed up to recieve a packet in the mail. which I did and filled out all the paperwork and had a appointment but had to postpone for we were hit by a big hurricane and had other priorities then when things calmed down i called and made another appointment and this was a special time for they made me feel like i was not what society makes us feel we are people with a disease which is obesity!
I haven't had my surgery yet. I am scheduled for Monday Feb. 17. but I can tell you all that he made a wonderful first impression. He walked into the room with a smile on his face. He introduced himself, shook my hand, sat down and really really listened.
It older grew better if that is possible. He did an endoscope and colonoscopy on me last Friday and was just great.
His Staff is just at his heels in nice! I have been treated so well since my first visit on Jan. 22.,by everyone. I really cannot say enough about them.
I haven't found anything to dislike about him yet and I would tell all future patients if they want special attention, see Dr. Gary Stevens in Lafayette, Louisiana
So far aftercare has been stressed as really important and yes he does have a structured aftercare.
The risk of surgery was emphasized orally and by the written Educational booklet that he and Dr.Uyen Bich Chu give their patients.
His bedside manner with my proceedures on Friday was excellent so I feel sure after seeing him in his office 4 or 5 times plus in outpatient that he will be as great in the surgical competence department but I will reserve my actual feeling for after my surgery. I can only tell you how it (he) has been with me so far.
