UW Health Surgical Weight Management Program Bariatric Center

We have two surgeons here in Madison that work as a team. Drs Garren and Gould. They both strike me as being very young, but knowledgeable. Dr. Garren is clearly the leader and appears to have a genuine interest in his patients. I was very impressed when they both showed up at the monthly Support Group meeting held at the hospital and participated in the meeting durint the 2 hours.

Dr. Garren was very polite and non-judgemental. What I liked most was that he just sat and listened and answered my questions. Most dr.'s rush you through appointments and I never felt rushed. He seems to care about his patients. Jane, his nurse, has been extremely helpful along the way. She keeps me informed of changes that come through from my insurance company and she answers my questions that I have from my insurance company.

Dr. Garren highly emphasized support groups and routine meetings to keep on top of health issues. He had me attend a nutritional meeting the same day as my consult so that I would know what to expect after surgery.

Dr. Garren was up front and honest about the risks of surgery. He made sure I knew that death was a risk involved among other issues.

At this point I rate Dr. Garren an A. He has not shown me any reason not to trust him.

I believe both surgical competence and bedside manner are important. I've been made to feel bad most of my life for being obese and I don't need my Dr. making me feel bad too. I'm there to change my life for the better and support is needed.

I loved him instantly! He is very sincere and could even answer a few questions I had about my insurance. He listened to what I had to say and was very straight forward with his answers. The caring look in his eyes did not once change the entire time I was in his office. He was very relaxed and made me feel comfortable with my decision to proceed with the insurance process. He even complimented his nurse Jane... said the office wouldn't run with out her. YOU GO GIRL!!! The two of them made my Cardio and Phsyco hee hee I meen Phsyc appointments. I meen Jane called me with the appointment dates the day after my first consultation. So far so good.

I have 2 doctors doing my surgery Dr.garren and Dr.Gould both listened to my concerns, answered all my questions told me all the risked. I felt rushed at the last appt. because my appt. was scheduled at 3:15 to see the doctor and I still had to get tests done and go to a nutritionist by 4:00. My wonderful mother was along and volunteered to take notes for me because I was going to miss most of the meeting.
