Tower Health Medical Group Weight Loss Surgery and Wellness Center Bariatric Center
In the last year I have been so glad I had Dr. T. I feel I have gotten better care than I would have had I gone elsewhere. The UT Medical Group Bariatric surgeons are HYPER careful and conscientious. At no time during the last year and a half have I felt as though I haven't gotten the best of care.rnrnI would most highly recommend Dr. Tichansky AND Dr. Madan. They are very caring and kind surgeons.
My first impression of him was that he seemed to \"really\" care about fat people. That's right.... \"Fat people\"...I include myself in that category. I came to him with alot of baggage anyway. I'm in the \"Super morbid obese\" catagorie with a BMI of 57.5, 60 years old and I have Congestive Heart Failure. He is starting a branch of \"Fresh Start\" bariatric surgery here in the Columbus Ohio area at Riverside Methodist Hospital that started in Mansfield Ohio. I was going to \"Barix\" at first but they left me out there to fend for myself, which is fine. I have broad shoulders anyway and I can take care of myself. After my wife and I attended \"Fresh Start\" seminar one evening we decided to go with \"Fresh Start\" instead of Barix. They had me come in for an all day evaluation which consisted of a Medical Evaluation, Psychological Consulation and a Nutritional Consulation and a Blood draw. You can't beat that! (they also give you lunch)....get almost everything done in one day, oh sure he had me go for things I had to have done anyway like a Chemical Stress Test, EKG, Chest X-Ray and a Echocaridogram. I already have a CPAP machine and I had to send them a copy of my sleep test and breathing test. The people he has working with him were very helpful like Annie, Mike, Suzie, Yavonne, Cheri and I'm sure there are others that I left out. I just hope they aren't mad at me for forgetting their names. I told them up front that my memory was about as long as my ...... but we won't go there. All I can say is that it seems that they have a great program. I'll let you know more after when and if I get an ok from \"Aetna\". That will be a whole other story. If anyone has any questions or has any input to what I said feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].
Dr. Myers is the Bariatrics Medical Director for the Bariatrics program at Riverside Methodist Hospital located in Columbus, Ohio.rnrnI began my journey with the Ohio State University Baratric program but because of an insurance issue was introduced to Dr. Myers. who heads up a new Bariatric program at Riverside.rnrnDr. Myers is respectful, understanding and down to earth. The FreshStart program is comprehensive and well structured. Future patients should know that the combination of Dr. Myers, the FreshStart program and Riverside Methodist Hospital is a winner.rnrnThe aftercare program looks fantastic. Here is a link to the facility where the aftercare progam takes place http://www.ohiohealth.com/homemcconnell.cfm?id=375rnrn
My first impression was that he was very knowledgeable of the surgery and he was very confident of himself and his staff. rnrnHis staff was pretty much on point, no kind of problems what so ever. rnrnThe one thing that I didn't like was that he didn't respect the way that I was feeling right after the surgery. I didn't stay on the morphine, due to an allergic reaction so the pain had a chance to kick in, and boy did I feel it !rnrnFuture patients should know that he is no joke and he is serious about his job. So, if you like to lolly gag around with your recovery, then he's not the doctor for you.rnrnI would rate him at a 8.5 His bedside manners where the best. Also, surgical competence is very important ,of course.
Dr. Meilahn made an immediate impression upon me when he replied the same evening to an e-mail I sent to him inquiring about surgery. I called for an appointment soon thereafter. At my consultation he went over every detail of what I was to expect, including the possible side effects and complications. He visited me in the prep room just before surgery to go over a few things again and to apologize that he was running late with the first case. He also wanted to know if I had any more questions. After I came out of anesthesia, he immediately let me know that he had to perform an open procedure. On a funny note, he wanted me to walk the day I was going home. The gown they had given me was missing the ties in the back so my butt was hanging out. Dr. Meilahn grabbed a roll of surgical tape and taped me shut. It was hysterical. He called me the day after I went home to make sure everything was OK. Dr. Meilahn is very patient oriented.
Dr. Meilahn is a great doctor. He explained everything to me (good and bad) before I had my surgery. I felt very comfortable the day of surgery, and I have no complaints whatsoever! His staff was very informative and accomodating, both before and after surgery. I attended his support group before surgery and plan to continue going to his support groups for aftercare.
I first saw Dr. T. at a WLS seminar, He was knowledgeable and gave great answers to questions, I started out wanting Dr. Madan, but with the schedule he had it was impossible. So Dr. T. was placed on my case. we meet face to face on my pre-op appt.rnHis asst. Dr. Harper was more out front and came to see me the day of surgery and afterward.rnWhat I guess I did not like about seeing Dr. Harper was afterward he saw me after my surgery, And the bill I got from Dr. T. it should have said Dr. Harper instead. But I assume rnthat is how it is done, i think Dr. T. should have been more available and present.rnI think I was looking to see more of him. Since a friend who saw Dr, Madan said she saw him often.
Had my first appt. on 4/7/3006. Dr. Meilahn was knowledgeable and empathetic. The office staff was very helpful. What impressed me the most is something that happened after i left the office. I had to wait in the hospital lobby for my ride to pick me up and was there when Dr. meilahn was leaving for the day. He saw me there and made a point of comig over and acknowledging me. I was shocked that he remembered who i was, especially since he had just met me only that day. That one small gesture made me even more confident about my decision. Step ne done, bring on the rest.
I met with Dr. Meilahn yesterday (3/25/06) and I found him to be an extremely inteligent man. I thought he was kind and very thourough. He was very detailed about the types of pre-operative testing and he was very good at emphasising what a tool this surgery is.
Temple's bariatric surgery program seems very good. They have support groups in place and the aftercare program seems outstanding.
I also want to mention that his staff made me feel welcome, a fact that can make or break my opinion of any doctor's office. One is only as good as one's staff, after all.
