I met with Dr De La Torre and it was a visit that I never would have expected. He did everything to talk me out of the surgery and make sure that I knew about all the risks. His staff has been very good and I really enjoy the support group meetings that they have once a week.
Dr Scott and De La Torre seem to be the best in their field when it comes to RNY. They have done 1200 lap procedures and have lost 7 patients. That is lower than the national statistic.
They do however run a tight ship. Their program is very strict and they expect you to follow it to the tee!
I would give the highest recomedation if anyone ever needed this procedure to Dr Scott and De la Torre.

Drs. Delatorre and Dr. Scott in Wentzville, MO, were wonderful, as were their staff. I have no complaints. Nice, helpful people.

I was very impressed with Dr. de la Torre. He was very professional and informative. He answered all the questions I had clearly and precisely. He explained the possible risks and complications completely. His office staff was nice and, of course, Janet is wonderful! I haven't met her, but we have talked on the telephone and she has handled all the paperwork. The "diet class" was great and informative. Overall I was imperssed with the Dr., staff and hospital.

I HAD MY SURGERY WITH DR. DELATORRE AND HIS PARTNER DR. SCOTT BOTH EXCELLENT A 10, WOULD STRONGLY RECOMEND THEM, MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THEY OVERBOOK AND I HAD TO WAIT 3.5 HOURS FOR MY PRE-OP APPT AND 1 HOUR FOR POST-OP. THE HOSPITAL HAD GOOD NURSING CARE AND EVERYONE FRIENDLY.

I saw Dr de la Torre on 10/4/01. I was worried and frightened just thinking about having this surgery, but after meeting the doctor, his staff, going through the class with the dietician, etc from Crossroads Regional Medical Center I am now very excited and can't wait to get my surgery. The doctor is very confident which really eased my mind and I know someone who had this done last year by Dr de la Torre who recommended him to me. I also have a friend at work who had lap done on 5/2/01 and is doing very well and has already lost over 100lbs. I only have 12 more days to work prior to my surgery date. I am sure this time will go by pretty quickly and it will all be over before I know it. This surgery has come at a very good time for me because my back and legs are starting to hurt so bad that it is hard for me to go to work anymore. God does work in myserious ways and always looks over us which also helps me to have such a positive outlook for the future. Good luck to all having this surgery!

Met Dr. de la Torre I was impressed with his professionalism. He explained everything in detail regarding the surgery. His staff was friendly and personable. After surgery I met with Dr. Scott. He remove the staples. He was very nice, explained the next steps, ask if I had any questions.

I haven't met the doctor yet. But from my understanding, he is one of the best in the field and actually holds many patents on the lap. machinery that is used. I'll update after I meet him.
8/10/01 UPDATE--I met with Dr. Scott, Dr. de la Torre's partner. He was very nice and looked me in the eye. I feel very comfortable with my decision. The office staff, Janet, is wonderful!

Dr. de la Torre was professional. He and Dr. Scott are partners and have been doing this for sometime.
I have only seen the surgeon 4 times. The first was the interview, 2nd was the surgery, 3rd was 2 weeks after and 4th was 6 weeks after.
The office staff is great. Jan (a nurse or much more) is in charge of getting everything going, insurrance, scheduling, and the support group. 99 percent of contacts with the office is through Jan.
Dr de le Torre did stress the risks of surgery and in fact taped the interview.
The support group is probably one of the best around. We have people coming from hundreds of miles away to attend.
Surgical competence has to be the most inportant thing but bedside manner sure helps.

Well, I had done lots of research into this procedure before I was willing to go through with it. His credentials for this surgery are outstanding. Upon meeting him I found him personable & knowledgable. He answered any pre-op questions I had to my satisfaction. Janet Quinn the coordinator was lovely pre-op as well.
The pre-op phases were so organized and went so smoothly. I had traveled 240 miles for my pre-op & they were able to do it all in one day.
Once I was hspitalized however the story changed. I ended up in ICU for a bit. Then nurses there were great. Once I got moved to the floor however I might as well have been at home by myself. The quality of care was deplorable. No one would do any thing for me unless I physically walked down to the nurses station & waited. Then if it was for ice or something they would point me in the direction of where i could go get it.I was given the wrong IV fluids then the nurse tried to push a med she had forgotten in the bag & blew my vein & then asked me what i thought she should do. Soooooooooooooooooo SCARY !!!!!!!!!! I also had to argue over recievcing a pain med because the nurse didn
't think I should need one yet.
I have since obtained the CEO's name & address so I can write a formal letter of complaint. I myself am a medical professional & was mortified by the quality of care i recieved.
Post -op my visit was quick. Their after care is much less than the pre-op.
I didn't even get all my questions answered at the post -op visit.
I am going to e-mail them for the answers.
Well my main focus was on finding a competent surgeon to actually do the surgery & that I am most delighted with.

I just met Dr. de la Torre yesterday July 12. He was very personable and went over the risks of the surgery in great detail, but also was very reassuring of his own professional experience and knowledge.

He is very confident about this procedure regardless of the risks, and we all want a surgeon with self-confidence and experience!

The staff is great and included a meeting with a dietition, a nurse who described the surgical procedures and what to expect post-op, and a physical therapist. I thought this was excellent patient care. The staff were wonderful, answering all questions.

They offer ongoing support group counseling weekly that is open to all patients but I haven't been able to attend.

Overall, they do an excellent and complete job of patient information. From Doctor de la Torre to the entire staff, they are friendly, caring, honest and professional.
