Before i went i was so woried about what i'd say, how could i convince him that i really need this operation. When i first met Stephen Pollard he was so understanding, he understood i'd tryed everything and how much it ment to me. He explained everything to me clearly the risks, benefits, aftercare and consequences. He answered all my questions and made me feel really confident that surgery is the correct way to go for me. He also made me realise how badly i'd been treated by former doctors. I have yet to have my operation. i am due to go into hospital on 9th June.

I saw Mr Pollard yesterday eveing (12th November 2002) and was extremely nervous yet excited to be there.
He put me at ease with his very friendly manner and non-judgemental attitude straight away.
I was armed with a long list of questions, but by the time I had listened to him explain in detail about the operation, the risks, as he drew diagrams and chatted in general about his experiences with this surgery and the outcomes of studies relating to the surgery he had answered most of the ones on my list!
He didnt hurry me at all and took a detailed history, I imagine he has heard very similar stories of past weight loss failures many times, he listend carefully and was very sympathetic to my plight.
Overall he left me feeling confident in my choice of both Surgeon and Surgery, and eager to get on and get it done... the sooner the better!

Mr Pollard, whom I have met on just the one consultation visit so far, was very informative about the procedure, the implications, risks and the facts concerning my imput after the operation had been completed. i.e. the surgery was a tool for me to use properly for it to benefit me.

He took a great deal of time to explain things in depth, speaking to both me and my husband.

He has a good sense of humour, something I found of great help, putting me at ease.

His secretary, Louise, has been most kind and helpful, answering my queries as best as possible.

I suppose the only niggle I have is about aftercare. Very little was discussed about what checkups etc. will take place once I have left hospital. Apparently, I will not be expected to return to Leeds, some four hundred miles from where I live, for any checkups. I presume I will go to my own GP for these. I was sorry I did not ask more about this at the consultation. I will obviously find out more upon admittance (if not before).

So far, I am reassured about my choice of surgeon, and would recommend him to others from what I have learnt to date.

Obviously, surgical competence is of paramount importance, but bedside manner is also invaluable.

A very intelligent and charismatic man. He has a impressive record. Hundreds and hundres of gastric bypasses done and he is the considered the top surgeon in the U.K. His secretary, Louise is a wonderful woman and could do enough to help me make my first appointment. He has had the hospital fitted with 4 suites built to accomodate his large patients. Shower size, bed size and even the room furniture. He covered the good and the bad and was clear and fair in what he felt my reults would be like. I feel very lucky to be in his care.

I met Mr Pollard last night, 24th Sept. for initial consultation. He was very informed and explained the surgery thoroughly, with the help of diagrams. I was very impressed with him, (as was my mum) that we phoned his secretary Louise (very helpful) the next morning (today) to schedule surgery I wanted the surgery in the half term break so my mum could stay with me hospital and she gave me a surgery date there and then, 18 Feb. 2003. All am waiting for mow is the confirmation letter.

Over all I was very happy with Mr pollard he made me feel relaxed but still remained professional throughout. I would definately recommend Mr Pollard for anyone considering the gastric bypass. 10/10

Mr. Pollard is a very kind, caring man. He has superb bedside manner and keeps you informed at every step of the way. I cannot say enough for him - he is truly one of the best surgeons I've ever came across.

Over all I can say that Mr Stephen Pollard is a fantasic surgeon and very sympathetic to obese people. He does not judge, but offers help and advise. He fully discuses the risks and asks for your full medical history.
I am 16 weeks post op and have seen him 3 times at short notice, he is always only a phone call away, very reassuring.
He's also very down to earth with a great sense of humour, very aproachable.
I have since recommended other people to see Mr Pollard and they are going ahead with their surgery shortly.

Met with Dr Pollard for my initial consultation. He was great. Very patient, I didn't feel rushed and he spoke openly and answered all my questions.
