My first impression of Dr. Avara was that he really cared about everyone at the siminar that I went to. He listened to everyone like they were the only person in the room. The staff have been excellent. If I have a question they are more than happy to answer it for me and don't make me feel like I am bothering them.

My first impression was one of competence and caring. He was awesome and immediately put me at ease. This staff at SMSWLC was very knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to answer every question and gave a very thorough overview of options. Aftercare is emphasized as important as well as before the operation. I have many steps to go through to be prepared. I was fully briefed on the risks associated with surgery. I felt this surgeon was very competent and he had an excellent beside manner. rnrnI would, at this point, highly recommend this staff to anyone in the area, as in my opinion, they treated me great.rnrnI really cannot think of anything negative to say at this time.

He is an awesome surgeon who explains every thing very well and takes his time to answer all of your questions. I would refer everyone to him.

I probably had the best introduction to Dr. Avara and his staff one could get; my wife preceded me as a patient. I was able to see, first hand, how Dr. Avara and his staff deal with their patients without actually being a one. The staff treated my wife and, myself, with the deepest respect and understanding I have ever seen from medical professionals; especially, concerning obesity. From the very first time I shook Dr. Avara's hand, I knew that my wife would be in good hands. He is truely focused on helping people rid themselves of obesity. He has surrouned himself with a great staff who are very friendly and always ready to inform and help. rnSupport after my wife's surgery was much more than I knew possible. So, when it came to my getting surgery, there was no decision to make; Dr. Avara and his team were the only choice. Leading up to and, on the day of, my surgery, Dr. Avara was very encouraging and compassionate. During follow ups (fills), he has had agenda items that negate any of my positive opinions. No matter how much good progress I make, there's always something negative he focuses on. Dr. Avara provides no standards or suggested improvements to acheive his expectations. I leave the office very discouraged about my progress. It's the staff that help me to understand where I am doing well and where I might be falling short.rnYou can search the internet for months on end looking for information on WLS. You needn't look further when you attend the educational program that Dr. Avara's staff have developed and administer. I'm sure there are many gifted surgeons out there but, Dr. Avara and staff have won my loyalty. If you are in the MS Gulf Coast area and need WLS, have Dr. Avara do it; even if you have to pay out of pocket.

Dr. Avara is someone I admire because of the work I've seen him do. Anyone that has figured a problem out for a patient who many other good physicians were stomped by will get my recommendation any day. Also, he has wonderful staff, who are like little angels, love 'em all.

I felt really comfortable with Dr. A and his staff. Everyone is friendly and eager to help. They made sure I understood all that is happening and is to come with the weight loss journey. So far so good.

Dr. Avara seems very gentle and kind. You are instantly put at ease by him and his staff. He's very compassionate and understanding about what we go through being obese.

Dr. Avara from the first time I met him made me feel very comfortable and relaxed to talk to about my obesity. He has a team that is also dedicated to the patients as well. There is not one negative thing that I could possibly think of to say about Dr. Avara. He has the best bedside manner that I have ever experienced. I would not trade him for NO other surgeon. He is a very caring and compassionate person. He truly cares about his patients. Dr. Avara strongly emphasizes to follow post op instructions and explains the reasons/benefits for the aftercare instructions. He explains everything(both pre op and post op) to you so that you can understand what is and will be going on. I can not think of a rating great enough to give him. Dr. Avara's knowledge in this field made and still makes me feel very confident. Thank You, Dr. Avara for everything you have done and are doing for the health of your patients.

Dr. Avara was wonderful! He and his staff are very friendly and professional. I would recommend them to anyone. They are well informed on all types of WLS and took lots of time explaining everything. The program is very well organized and planned. They have literature for every imaginable topic related to WLS. I have had no negative experiences in any phase of this program. Dr. Avara and his staff are excellent!
