Rio Grande Surgeons, P.A. Bariatric Center
So far so good. :)
First impression: I felt very comfortable with Dr. Lara right away. He made me feel at ease and was very encouraging. My impression did not change at all for him.rnStaff: The staff is very accomodating, sometimes it is extremely busy in the office and you can get overlooked if you don't speak up. There was one appointment that was scheduled incorrectly on their end that caused a lot of stress for me. Overall, they are very welcoming and caring.rnPatients: He is very strict, if he tells you not to gain any weight; he is very serious, he will not perform the surgery if you break the contract with him on what his expectations are for his patients.rnAftercare : The Del Sol Bariatric Center is a complete facility. They stress so much on the aftercare of their patients. You will be followed up with a dietician for as long as you need or want to have access to the dietician. The staff is there for you for life. Which is good to know.rnRisks of Surgery: This is explained from day 1. The very first seminar I went to they stressed that there are risks and complications. I was aware of the complications of the surgery before I walked into the seminar. I researched the surgery and looked into it for two years before I walked into the clinic. I was well aware of complications and it was reassuring that they did not try and cover up the complicaitons.rnRate: I would have to rate Dr. Lara on a scale of 1 to 10: I would give him 10. His bedside manner was great and his surgical competence was awesome. It is nice to have a surgeon have both bedside manner and to be a leader in the bariatric community.

He had given a seminar here in Albuquerque that I had gone too and previous patients spoke highly of him. I finally got to meet him July 11th and he's very serious. I feel confident that he will be a good surgeon but I just wish the bedside manner was a little bit lighter. My husband and I are both kind of jokesters and appreciate a good sense of humor. Maybe it was because he had three other people waiting for him and he was rushed. As for the office staff, boy, I hope they get it together. None of them really laugh or smile although I did get the nurse, Debbie, smiling and laughing. I won't see Dr. Lara again until the day before surgery which will probably be another 6 months if the insurance company plays nice! :o)

have not met him as yet ..not until the 24th of june 2008
I met Dr Acosta at the seminar almost a year ago. He seems very personable, and like he cared about his patients, therefore, naturally I went with him as my surgeon because he was the one I met. During my consultation he was including my parents in the conversation and wanted their opinion and was thorough in explaining what he was going to do. His office staff has been good so far, I haven't had any complaints. I've had a few questions since I came home and the ladies have been responsive within a timely manner.
Dr. Lara is awesome. Very serious about what he does. Always remains professional yet you feel comfortable to ask him the questions you need to ask.
Professional, Caring, polite, good sense of humor, and nice looking!
Dr. Lara is probably in his mid-30s, I am guessing, and has privileges at Del Sol Hospital, El Paso, TX, for surgery. I would say that he has a rather cool (not as in hip, LOL) personality, but he is nice. I do believe he is a good surgeon and that is what one wants. He checked on me per protocol while I was in the hospital and seemed sincerely interested in how I was doing and progressing. The only time I have seen him really \"light up\" about something was when I asked him during a pre-op visit how he got interested in WLS, especially lap-RNY. He seemed genuinely excited about the work he does and that is comforting in itself. If you have any serious allergies to drugs, you must make certain that you keep telling Dr. Lara about them. Please remember that I am only commenting and making suggestions based from my own experiences.
he was very straight and to the point. he is kind of strict but i truly believe he has his heart in the right place and wants his patients to succeed
