Randall G. Cook, M.D., P.C. Bariatric Center

Dr. Cook is wonderful. He tells you everything, up front. My baby ended up having to go with us, he made noises and Dr. Cook even held him towards the end of my cosultation, which of course was 2 thumbs up in my book. His office staff, Lisa and Missy are wonderful and make no indication you are driving them crazy when u call!

so far I have only met the receptionist she was very helpful. What happened to me started last June when we moved to Montgomery due to a promotion my husband recieved. I was experiencing severe epigastric pain during the move. I went to a emergent care center it took forever to get all the tests scheduled and I changed group of MD's as one of the docs was not a perfered provider at the old group. To make a long story short I have severe distal and proximal gerd, hiatal hernia, artheritis of both knees and osteophyts on numerous levels of thoracis spine and degenerative disc disease of lumbar, I had 4 hospitalizations last year due to aspiration of stomach contents- I developed status asthmaticus was on high doses of steroids, updrafts q2hr etc. this occured between sept and nov last year. Have high: b/p, lipids, edema of bilateral lower extremeties, I was on insulin for a while due to steroids,I have restless leg and arm syndrome and peiodic movment of limbs during sleep. at this point can any thig else go wrong? we reached catastrophic medical last year to the tune of 8,000+. ouch. I am terrified that I won't be medicated for pain adequatly after surgery. I have had some bad experiences in the past. I do not expect to be pain free but I should be medicated to the point that I can doze off in recovery and then on the floor.that day of sugery.

Now that I've had my surgery I have obviously spent a considerable amount of time with Dr. Cook, but during most of it I was unconscious. He is always friendly and answers my questions fully and honestly. I can't help feeling a little rushed when I meet with him, but I'm learning that I feel that way about just about every consultation with every doctor. I think it's just a matter of the doctor knowing clearly that everything is as it should be--and he should, since he's done tons of these--while I am always unsure. As far as I can see everything else about Dr. Cook is 100% positive, and his office and medical staff are still wonderful.

I met Dr. Cook for the first time today and was very impressed! He took the time to explain things in detail to me and didnt make me feel silly if I asked a question. He made me feel as if I were the only patient he was to have that day. Not rushed at all! Although I had gotten a LOT of helpful info from this site and others, it still helps to hear it clarified by the surgeon and he did a wonderful job at doing just that. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

When I met with Dr. Cook, he and his office staff were very friendly and they are there to help you in any way. He really cares to take the time to listen to your questions ---not like a lot of the physicians that I have been to in the past where they are in and out before you can ask questions. In fact, he asked me about four times if I had questions. He really took the time to explain the surgery in detail and long-term care follow-up with me.
His staff is very professional and friendly. Lisa is wonderful!

Dr> Cook gave me a great impression, he has a very good bedside manner. I felt as ease with him. He talk to me about the surgery and everything involve with it. His staff are great very nice ladies and very encouraging. My impression of Dr. Cook is the same I think he is great I thank God for sending him my way. What I like best about Dr. Cook that I felt at ease with him, I knew he was there to help me not judge me. He highly recommends support group and for you to follow post-op instructions. I would highly recommend Dr. Cook to anyone considering surgery. He is a great surgeon. I know people aren't perfect all the time, but I have nothing to say negative about Dr, Cook or his staff I am completely satisfied tis this far.

I was very impressed with Dr. Cook when I met with him for initial consult. My best friend and I will be going through this surgery together and Dr. Cook let us do our consult together with him. It was great! We asked a lot of questions and he answered everything very upfront and honestly. He was very professional, and was open concerning risks of surgery vs. risk of continuing to be morbidly obese! The only step Dr. Cook did not cover as a step of having surgery during the initial consult was the psy eval. I met Lisa (who handles the whole insurance side of things). She was supportive and seemed excited for us! I have called her several times and she is always pleasant. I recently talked with Missy, R.N. over the phone. I just love her! She seems to have a great sense of humor and was very expedient in getting a letter sent to my company regarding medical necessity of the surgery. Dr. Cook emphasizes the support group at Jackson Hosp. I went to my first support group meeting there in July before my consult and it was wonderful! It meets every 6 wks and I plan on going to these.
