My first impression of Dr. Elariny was a good one. Since he cams so highly recommended, I wanted to see this great surgeon. I was not disappointed. He was very personable, and seemed to genuinly care about all of his patients. He is extremely knowledgable and I knew right away that I wanted him to do my surgery. I was very comfortable having him perform my Duodenal Switch. I am convince that I had the absolute best surgeon that I could have gotten.

I first met Dr. Elariny in 2001. Since then, my impression of him has not wavered. I noticed that he is much busier than I ever could have guessed in the beginning. Sometimes at the support meetings, he looks tired, understandably so. That let me know that I wanted him to do my surgery bright and early in the morning when he is fresh.

His office staff is also kind and personable. They have changed a few in the past couple of years, but they are all still very helpful and caring.

Dr. Elariny is absolutely the best surgeon that you could have for WLS. He does make sure that you do your homework and that you too are informed about what you are about to embark on. But... be prepared for a office that is busy. You may or may not have to keep up with test results, etc. as they are very busy. Personally, I have not had any problems with them.

Dr. Elariny stressed aftercare. The actually surgery is only the beginning.

All of the risks are addressed and Dr. Elariny makes sure that all of his patients are fully aware of the risks involved.

Overall, I would rate him as Excellent! I just cannot say enough about him.

His competence is exceptional and his bedside manner is warm and comforting. Isn't that what we all want... a smart man that cares? Both his bedside manner and his competence are Fantstic!

The only negative thing that I could possibly say is that... I did have my surgery taped. Now, we haven't located it yet. He is sooooo busy. But, we'll get it. I wasn't up to seeing it until now anyway. Overall, he still gets an A++

Okay, at my 6 month visit, they retrieved my tape of my DS procedure. I watched... Wow! I had just as much fat on the inside as it looked like on the outside. It was much more than I thought it would be. The tape was very clear and I saw the whole procedure. It's still hard to believe it's me on the inside.

I first met Dr Elariny at his informational session when he explained about the different types of WLS and which would be best depending on the individual pattern of eating. My second meeting was at his office and we dicussed the WLS. He is very funny, makes you very comfortable. He did not rush me and answered all my questions. His office staff excellent ( jennifer RD and Waseem(PA). At the hospital (INOVA FAIRFAX) Dr. E. saw me in the preop and I had to inform him which surgery I wanted and why it was the best one for me. Post op I saw Dr. Chen who is also very nice. My experience with this team is 100%. I would recommend them to anyone considering weigh loss surgery.

Dr. Elariny is a very calm, peaceful individual who nevers seems rushed or harried. He is very reassuring and listens to what his patients say. He genuinely seems to like what he does. He makes sure his patients can explain to him in detail what type of bariatric surgery they want and why. No one has surgery without his approval. Just because a patient asks for surgery doesn't mean he'll get it. The best two words I can say about Dr. Elariny is that he is thorough and cautious. Patient welfare is his top priority.

Dr. Elariny requires that any prospective patient attend an information meeting at which the various types of bariatric surgeries are explained - along with the pros and cons of each type. Any questions are readily answered.

For the most part, though, patients have contact with Dr. Elariny's staff. The staff provides the bulk of information needed. They provide a 1-in notebook to each patient with the contents geared to the specific type of surgery you will be receiving. Many patients call it their "bible" about what to expect and what to do when and how to take care of yourself after surgery.

Dr. Elariny has had extensive experience performing laproscopic procedures. That's why patients go to him. He's an excellent surgeon.

Dr. Elariny is a master. My surgery was down right boring and that was just what I wanted. He is very nice, professional and I had nothing but confidence in him and his skills. He addressed the risk of the procedure and makes sure you know why you are chosing it. The aftercare is done very well his nutrionist Jennifer is very helpful and very thorough so you know what you should and should not be doing. I drove back and fourth from Richmond for two years pre-opand it was well worth. My only wish is that Dr. E did plastic surgery as well!

I have been very impressed with Dr. Elariny and his office staff to date. It has been a long journey for me to gain insurance approval, and his staff was very helpful in making sure I had everything I needed to get this approved. My surgery is less than a month away, and like everyone else, I'm hoping it goes really well!

POST-OP
I saw Dr. Elariny before surgery but not afterwards, and that was fine because I really had no problems that he needed to deal with. He did speak to my Mom and friend after the surgery was over. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that I don't feel hungry, I might wonder if he really did anything to my stomach - the pain and discomfort have been so minimal and the recovery so quick. I'm just amazed at how good I feel after just one week - and that I attribute to having a highly skilled surgeon - I am SO thankful he was my surgeon!

My PCP had recommended Dr. Elariny and stated that he was regarded to be one of the best surgeons (for WLS) on the East Coast. I respect my PCP and feel that he wouldn't mislead me. Dr. E seemed like a very professional, competent surgeon with a passion for helping morbidly obese individuals. I've only met him at the initial seminar and at my pre-op visit. He was in a rush at my pre-op visit, but still took time to answer my list of questions. He did bring me to tears as we talked in length about the removal of adhesions prior to surgery (from my previous gallbladder surgery), which was really scary to me. He said it may have to be OPEN instead of LAP, and possibly more pain, longer recovery, more complications, etc. I expressed my fears and he seemed to aknowledge them, but did not tell me " everything will be fine", because legally, I know he cannot say that to me.

My first impression of Dr. Elariny was good. My husband and I went to an information session. My husband thought that he was very bright, very clear, and described everything in great detail. His office staff is committeed and friendly. I hear that he is very picky that all paperwork and tests are complete and verified prior to surgery. They gave me a binder and I am organizing and keeping copies of all tests and letters to take to the hospital on surgery day, just in case something was misplaced. There is a structured aftercare program. The risks were adressed. I would rate this doctor with two thumbs up. To me, you have to have surgical competence and bedside manner. I would not choose a surgeon without both.
