Dr. Macik is very profession which might come accross as cold. I initially saw him back in April 2002 and then was denied because of an exclusion. I changed insurance and am now trying to get his staff to submit my paperwork to my new insurer. That has not been easy as it is very difficult to get a hold of the office because they are so busy.

Dr. Macik was SUPER nice. His office staff...well I wont comment because I work in a doctors office and I "PICK APART" other offices, but I have seen better staff. I have had to pay for my consultation because THEY dropped the ball when filing my insurance. But the doctor. He is the BEST!!

I finally called and have my first appointment with Dr. Waits on 01/10/02. I have already received my package from his office and I am working on getting the paperwork filled out. I am very excited and also very nervous. Dr Waits did my sister's surgery in August of 2000 and she did great!
****UPDATE**** received a call 03/11/02 from Jerri @ Drs Waites and Macik's office with my approval for surgery. My date is 05/20/02 with Dr Macik. Received the infamous white sheet (aka new life sheet)and several other sheets. Have to get the blessing of the cardo, pulmonary and a bunch of other stuff. But, I am ready to go!
***01/10/03**
I had my six month check up on 12/17/02 and I am doing great. All my blood work was within range. Dr Masick said I don't even look like the same person! So Nice! I love my surgeon. He gave me by life back. I would rate him 10+.

I havn't met Dr. Macik yet but most of the reviews I have read by WLS members have been favorable. I have spoke with Mary Francis on the phone a few times and she seems to be a very caring person. I will know more after my consult this week.

Hi all, went for my consult last night. I met some of the nicest people. It is amazing how many people asked most of the questions I had planed to ask. I did ask the Doctor Macik about something I had read on another web site about spleen removal for excessive bleeding during surgery. I think he thought okay, here's one of those idiots who believes everything they read. I think he had to pinch himself to keep from laughing at me. He does have a cut and dry type personality but was polite and answered everyones questions.

I haven't met Dr. Macik yet (I won't meet him until 2 days before my surgery :( But, I've heard great things about him. I met Dr. Waits for the initial consultation and he was great! He is the perfect grandfather-figure. He reminds me a lot of my grandfather so that is probably the reason I liked him so much. Dr. Waits made all of the risks very clear and completely stressed aftercare and how this surgery isn't a "magic bullet". His office staff is great and truly on the ball...especially for as busy as they are. Speaking of which, should you choose this office for your surgery, be prepared to wait for a surgery date. They usually are scheduling for 3-4 months in advance. For example, I had my initial appointment on 10-3-02, was approved by my insurance by 10-22-02 but didn't get a surgery date until 2-6-03! I'm sure it will be worth the wait though :)

My first impression back in May was wonderful. He is a shy person and not very talkative, but that didnt matter. He does what he has to do. He sat with abou t9 of us in his waiting room and conducted a group 1st meeting and it was great. Not only did he give us info but he went around the room and asked us questions about what we know. My impression never changed. I have even recommended him.
The office staff is very get down to business. They are professional and have never let me down. I have heard about his "insurance expert" and that she lacked personality, but I didnt find her that way. She was extremely helpful as was the rest of his small staff.
There was nothing I didnt like about Dr Macik.
They are very strick about the post op regime. You have a list and you stick to it!
We talked about the risks, but I already knew alot. It didnt matter to me cause the benefits were worth the risks.
I rate him a 10 ! He did a great job on me. I read his surgical notes. I had no complications or complaints about anything. As I said, he is quiet, so the time he spends with you isnt that long unless you have alot you need to know/ask/say.

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Macik, but was informed by paperwork sent to me that he will be performing my surgery. From what I am told he is a lot younger than Dr. Waits, but knows his surgery. I had the priviledge of my first consultation being with Dr. Waits. My first impression of Dr. Waits was just as I expected from reading all of the information on this site. He is a wonderful man with a good bedside manner. Makes you feel exceptionally comfortable and at ease. I still have the same impression. I have still only met him the first time. The office staff was great, the ladies in the office were helpful and kind. There was really nothing that I did not like about Dr. Waits, he's a kind spirit. I would rate the overall experience a 9 out of 10 because I just felt a little rushed for some reason.

Met with Dr. Macik (October 1, 2002) and he is definitely an "A" type personality. Everything is forced with him ... his smile, his responses, ... his speech. He seems like a really either arrogant or just quiet guy. I understand that he is an impeccable surgeon and that is what I want, so I will look over the bad, bad, bad bedside manner that he projects and just concentrate on him doing a wonderful job on my surgery. May God bless him and his hands and give him the skill, ability and knowledge to administer an accurate surgery and painless recovery.

Hey all. My first page talked about Dr. Waits. Now I am using his partner Dr. Macik. Haven't met him yet.

First I meet the head nurse (Dr's wife) and went over Medical history. She is really nice. Then I met the head surgeon, Dr. Waits. He talked with me about the pros and cons and asked me what was bad about being overweight. I told him that I can't be like my friends and have fun because I am fat and they aren't. He told me that the menstration probs would probably be fixed after I lose some weight. Three patients of his were like me and their periods came back and they have gotten pregnant and had healthy babies. So that is good because I want a big family
Then we talked again in a group about what happens before during and after surgery
I will probably use his partner Dr. Macik because he does Lap

Have not yet had any contact w/ the office there. Just had a baby and am on my way to start the process of the surgery. I have heard very good things about the drs. and the staff.
7-27-01: I spoke w/ one of the staff on the phone and have schd an appt for 8-28-01. She sent out my ppwk that day and I rcvd it the next day. So far good things. No bad vibes from the office. One thing is that before surgery the patient is required to go to one support grp. meeting.
8-29-01: I had my first appt last night. It went fine. Dr. Macik is very nice and in the group meeting after we actually found out he had a sense of humor. He answered all the questions we had, explained the surgery in great detail, pre and post op, could not emphasize enough the importance of calcium after and exercise to prevent clots. He confirmed some of the thoughts I had. Yes, they use an NG tube and they also use heparin therapy until you leave the hosp. Very big relief to me. Karen (the insurance lady) tells you like it is and holds nothing back. We all appreciated that. 1-15-02: Spoke w/ Karen today. She helped a great deal to let me know what to expect w/ the fight I am up against w/ United HealthCare. 5-5-02: Surgeon did not have a very good bedside manner, but when it came time for me to shut up, he did @ least ans my question.
