Middlesex Health Center for Medical and Surgical Weight Loss Bariatric Center
He gave me an excellent impression. IN the first appointment he took an hour and a half to answer all my question and to interview me to see if I was a candidate for the surgery. His office staff is very corteous, and Louis keep me informed of all new changes and appointment to go. I also had a interview with the office of Dr. Barva 4 months prior to Dr. Aranow appointment. I had a group session with Dr. Lorenzo. Dr. Lorenzo seemed nice, but there was something missing. I started the process with doctor Barvas and Lorenzo office and got insurance approval with the office of Dr. Barva, but close to the surgery date I switch to Dr. Aranow. Why? Dr. Aranow gave more confidence. I will feel more safe with him when I close my eyes at the surgery room. I think this is very important. I think the informative session with the office of Dr. Barva is too impersonal. They send you to all the require appointments and you meet the surgeon last. This I did not like. You get the see the surgeon on the first session, where there are close to 80 people, so you do not get to talk to him or interview him in a comfortable matter. It was hard to make the decision, but when I got the approval with Dr. Barvas's office
I swicthed the approval to Dr. Aranow's office. I was going to do it before but the day I called, I found out that Dr. Barvas offfice had summitted the paperwork to the insurance already. When I was trying to decide I asked some question to Dr. Aranow's secretary and to my suprise Dr. Aranow called me at home to answer the question personally and devoted to me 20 minutes on the phone to answer other last minute questions about the surgery. Knowing how busy he is, this really convinced me that he cares about his patients. He was selected by a very prestigious magazine as one of the "Doctors, who doctor call". Also he studied gastroinstestinal surgery at Harvard University and did his residency at the Beth Israel Hosp. I am very happy with my decision and would recommend him to everyone. I will post more comments after the surgery. Dr. Barvas &Lorenzo are good too, but their process is too impersonal and rush.
The surgery went well! Dr. Aranow visited me 3 times every day at the hospital. Wow! I had an excellent care from the nursing staff and Dr. Aranow's care was excellent!
Very professional and thourough. He leaves no stone unturned pre opreatively. He is kindhearted and seems to understand our pain.
He is also excellent at taking care of the entire business end of it all. I have not had to do one thing to get this all set up with Health Net. His assistant Lois has also been most helpful and kind. I have had to call in alot and she takes my calls directly. For bedside manor Dr. Aranow and his nurses all get an A+ from this patient!!
He is listed in CT Magazine as one to the top ranking surgeons in CT so skillful he is and equally important his people skills excell!
had my first consult today. he is personable, thorough and available. he took his time explained everything, answered many questions. he is not pushing the surger just to do it. it appears he will do the surger only if there will be a good outcome. the office staff is pleasant and knowlegable. they were able to answer all questions to my satisfaction.
the doctor emphisizes after care and what it will mean as for as changes in my life. there is a support staff of professionals that will see me through as long as i need them, or will refeer me to others. a support group is highly encouraged. in fact it is mantatory.
the risks were spelled out in detail.
i would so far recommend this doctor. i rate him very high.
*My first impression of Dr. Aranow was "Wow does he look young! Is he really outof med school?" After spending two hours with him discussing the pros and cons of surgery and how he operates as a team with others in the hospital (Dietician, Psychiatrist, Cardiologist, etc) I felt absolutely calm and ready to go - then and there. Plus he has several degrees and citations on his walls next to his favorite people (wife and kids). That too is important to me. I didn't want somebody who is too absorbed in himself and practice that he doesn't take time for the family! - VERY IMPORTANT not to be stuck upon ones self!
*His office staff are real peaches. Lois is the organizer of all the related appointments and events preceeding surgery. The Doc picked a real gem there, she is very understanding and compassionate as she listens to questons and concerns and always had answers to the questions.
*I can't think of anything that I did not like about Dr. Aranow.
*Future patients should get to know him by meeting him at his office and then attending the Bariatric Support Groups that meet every other Monday at Middlesex Hospital. He tries to make the first one of the month to give an overview of the surgery and answer questions.
*His aftercare program is well laid out for the patient to follow. He and the dietitian (Amy Wardell)have put together a healthy plan for eating and drinking following surgery.
*Risks were discussed during the initial consult with Dr. Aranow, but he also recomended several websites to review (including this one!) The websites are very helpful. It is encouraging to see before/after pictures of patients who have had great success.
*Dr. Aranow is a skillful surgeon who barely left a scar - that's right, I am writing this two weeks after surgery, the stitches are sewn interior and the wound is healed and the scar looks like a cat scratched me and should be gone in a few weeks!
*Both surgical competence and bedside manner were tremendous both for me and my family. While I was getting preped for surgery, he went out to the waiting room to see my wife who was anxious and nervous. he took the time to calm her down and really put her at ease. Immediately after surgery he came back out to tell her how it went and explained the whole procedure. This was important for me becasue I knew my wife was nervous.
Anyone who is considering this procedure should at least meet with their doctor to learn as much as they can. I would strongly recommend Dr. Jonathan Aranow to anyone of my friends or colleagues considering the surgery. I already have referred someone to him. He has been a godsend and invaluable support.
Friendly, personable and seemed genuinely concerned about my particular situation.
It took me quite some time to understand why he was so difficult to please when obtaining the testing and results as everyone did the leg-work and he dictated what he needed to have before surgery.
He has at this time only one nurse, although he is in a group so they share.
Aftercare is the most important part of it
Yes!
In great detail.
Not having another surgeon to campare him too, I'd have to say I trust his judgement completely.
Both are what I desire, but I'd settle for surgical excellence.

So far as I have dealt with him Excellent
I havent senn His bedside mannor yet I have only heard he is very very good.
Young, intelligent, thorough, knowledgeable, well prepared, efficient. He's really nice and has a great sense of humor. My interview was 1.5 hrs and he covered everything. I trust his advice and judgement. His staff is customer service oriented, polite, efficient. His assistant, Lois is the greatest! I found it best to contact them once a week for updates. I was not informed of the support group meeting schedule, so I missed 2 meetings I would like to have attended. He is very busy, but he saw me every day in the hospital. I have not had any complications. Dr Aranow is very caring and concerned about his patients.
