Miami Hope Center Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr. Rabaza was of his dedication to patients. He is an extremely busy surgeon, yet still he spent over an hour and a half with me until well after 7:00 p.m. talking to me about the surgery. The second impression I got of him was that is a very honest, up front and caring person. At the end of our consult, he gave me a hug. That was the first time any physician had treated me with dignity. Over time, my first impressions only deepened, as he is well known for calling his patients at night, chatting with them, making sure they are OK. He is in the hospital from early morning until late at night. And his partners, Drs. Verdeja and Gonzalez, are just as special. His staff is competent, and the only complaint I would have about him and/or his staff is that they are overly busy. Future patients should expect to receive the best treatment they have ever had from any physician. Don't be surprised if he seems like your friend, but rest assured that his expertise in the field is incomparable. He has a strong aftercare program, but it is flexible, which was very important to me because many bariatric surgeons have strict rules every patient must follow. With Dr. Rabaza, he really tailors your plan to suit your particular situation. Overall, he is a superb surgeon, bar none, and totally great!
The first time my hubby and I went to see him, I could not speak a word, I was so nervous and in shock of finally being there, I was just mute, my husband did all the questions and he was very nice and explained the whole thing very throughly...After that, my follow up appointments went very smoothly, he returned your calls and make sure you are ok... I like him from the moment I saw him, he showed a lot of concern, he was very down to earth and honest. He is an extremely busy surgeon and my opinion, the best I have met...
His office is always busy but they treat you with respect and will return your calls.
I have no complaints !!! They are the best...
Dr. Gonzalez is quite personable. He comes across as very knowledgeable and witty, which is good because he puts you at ease right away. Over time you can feel how much he cares for his patients. His office staff is great albeit a bit overworked from the huge volume of people wanting to have surgery. I personally did not find anything off-puting about Dr. Gonzalez. You should know that at times the office wait can be quite long but the staff is working hard to overcome this. He has specific ideas as to how he wants you to feed yourself and yet he is pretty liberal as to how to accomplish this. He really lets each individual patient find his or her own way. He is very very honest and upfront as to what the risks of surgery are and he gives you a blow-by-blow account as to what exactly to expect in pre-surgery and post-op recovery and during your hospital and home recovery also. I would rate him TOPS!!!! If I had to do it again I would go to him hands down, no questions asked, no hesitation. For me his surgical competence was excellent. He has fine bedside manner but is obviously a very very busy surgeon, but no matter he's great.
My first impression of Dr. Gonzalez was that he seemed very young and he was sort of cute. I thought, "how embarrasing this cute guy operating on my fat self". But he was very nice. Spoke very well. I mention that because I have heard other surgeons talk, and some don't sound that good. I think his office is under staffed. They are very nice but they need more stff helping with the phones and answering questions. Overall, my experience has been good. Just remember, PATIENCE!
My first impression of Dr. Rabaza was a good one. He was very professional and to the point. He was very imformative although everything he talked and went over in the first meeting I already knew threw my own research. My Impression of him is stil the same ..I did have a few set backs with his staff and how things were handled.
If you make an appointment with him, know that it may be months before you get to the appoinment and that because of their high valume of people things may get mixed up in the office as far as your paper work is concerned.
I would rate him on a scale from 1-10 on first Impression an 8.
Surgical Competence is my #1 concern!! ;)
I was referred to Dr. Whittwell by my primary care physican. He came highly recommended.
My first contact with his office was very pleasant. His assistant is the BEST! I got an appointment for a month later. In the meantime, I did all the other footwork like obtain the psych eval, the sleep study. Luckily I had an abdominal sonogram and an endoscopy performed about six weeks before, so I had everything ready by the time I met the surgeon.
They were very informative and very professional. He answered all my questions and explained all the pros and cons. His assistant was operated by him six weeks before so she was an excellent source of information and it made me very comfortable to hear first hand from someone who had recently been operated by him and was so proudly recommending him. At that visit, his assistant gave me a tentative date and told me that she would submit my information the next day. After 10 days, she called me to let me know I was APPROVED! I already had my date scheduled for October 28th, so everything went really fast.
Overall, I am very pleased with Dr. Whittwell and I feel confident that everything will be great.
Dr. Rebaza was very open and honest about the surgery and very professional. For the most part the office staff is very professional but you can get bounced around when you call in and they sometimes tell you what you want to hear. Keep on them and keep a log on who you talked to and when. It helps.
They main problem I have is that he only sees patients on day a week and sometimes you have to wait for quite a while.
