It has been one year since my gastric bypass surgery. I have lost over 100lbs and went from a size 24 to a size 12. I made my mind up once I turned fifty that I was going to do something about my weight and health. I actually got Dr. Mailapurs name from a nurse at a Doctors office that had the surgery and saw her results. I do not regret having the surgery. It will change your life and also your eating habits. Dr. Mailapur tells you he has given you a tool to help change your life and it is up to you to follow and maintain. My biggest issue is still eating too fast and I still have issues with food that is too dry. I try to walk 3 miles and do light weight work outs. I know it is now up to me to keep the weight off and continue healthy eating. I still have about 20lbs I would like to lose over the next year or so. This surgery has changed my life for the better. Thank you Dr. Mailapur and staff!

I first saw Dr. Mailapur at a required seminar for prospective surgical candidates. Various professionals including Dr. Mailapur discussed the different procedures, insurance information, risks, patient expectations, etc. Every aspect of possible risks involved were covered at length. This seminar was very helpful in making my decision to have the gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Mailapur was knowledgeable, competent, and gained my trust through his comments and the information he provided. He emphasized all through the pre-operative phase that this surgery was a tool or means to an end for the patient not an end in itself and would take commitment from the patient. His office staff was friendly and eager to help at any time. He is really caring and interested in his patients and is always thrilled when they do well.
He works with our local hospital in their bariatric program which includes pre- and post-operative care and provides an on-line book which will answer any questions the patient may
have. Workshops and support groups are required pre-op and greatly encouraged post-op.
Dr. Mailapur has a nice balance of surgical competence and bedside manner. I would give him my highest rating. My only negative comment is from a post-op visit. After my surgery, I went in with a complaint of weakness and he assumed it was a normal post-op symptom. However, it led to my being hospitalized with dehydration. I think he could have given more credence to my complaint. However, I was soon better and have had no other problems that have not been addressed correctly. My experience with the surgery and the surgeon have been excellent, however I have no knowledge of the experiences of other patients treated by Dr. Mailapur. Every patient has differing ideas and experiences based on their mental and physical health. One thing that has helped me through this process has been having a personal trainer who has also had the gastric bypass surgery. I cannot emphasize too much how she has helped me through nearly every aspect of my post-op experience. At one year post-op, I have now lost 128 pounds and am nearing my goal weight. It has changed my life in a positive way.

Dr. Mailapur has my complete trust. I have been his patient for seven months. From the very beginning he has been straight forward and informative. I feel that I recieved the right about of education and information to make the best decision for my health. Dr. Mailapur makes it very clear that weightloss surgery is a tool not a quick fix. He mentions it every time I see him. Dr. Mailapur always takes time to talk with me to make sure I understand the process and see if I have any questions. He encourages all of his patients to take part in the monthly support group that meets locally. I have met so many people that have had weightloss surgery and the benefit is great. He stresses the importance of staying on track. He emphasizes the importance of great nutrition and excersize. I love the fact that he is no nonsence and to the point.

His staff is awesome! Jessica always knows what to do next! If I had a question about paperwork, she was always on top of it. They have the process down to a science. There was no stress in wondering what to do next because they have everything mapped out in writing, so I always had a reference.

I have no negative comments for Dr. Mailapur or his staff. The only down side to the entire process was the less than stellar nursing staff at the hospital. I feel several things could be improved upon there. They just did not seem focused on the patient. I felt that I had to remind them of things that had to be done.

I am 3 months post operation. I had the gastric and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Mailapur is just wonderful. I have lost 58 pounds and have not had any problems at all. If you are near Huntsville, Alabama and are considering weight loss surgery I recommend you attend one of Dr. Mailapur's pre-surgery sessions. He is the best around!!!

My Dr and his staff were and continue to be wonderful to me. I met him at Huntsville Hospital siminar and my first impression is that he was full of himself, but after going to his office and meetin him I realized that he was just really good at what he does. I decided that I liked that he was confident and honest. Those are some great qualities for someone who will do your surgery. He made sure that I was informed of all things that could happen and continues to help me in my journey. I recommend he and his staff to anyone. They are great. Go meet him for yourself he gives a siminar that is on the huntsville hospital website under bariatric surgery. I think it is on Thursday night but you will have to check. His staff will tell you all the things that you need to have the surgery and he will answer any questions that you have. He is great and I wish you the best if you choose he and his staff.

The first time I met Dr Mailapur was during his mandatory seminar. It was very informative and he answered a lot of questions that I had at that time. The second time I met him was at the support groups Christmas party. I saw at that time how is patients loved him and hearing their stories. My official appointment with him, he gave me additional information and informed me of his requirements in post surgery. He is strict, but he really cares for his patients. I had to lose 10 pounds before surgery. My surgery was done 08/02/10. So far I have lost 70 lbs. Follow his advice after surgery and you will do very well. Make sure you get up and walk after surgery. And keep walking and the weight will come off.

At first I was mad at Dr. Mailapur because he told me to lose 25 lbs. I have been on all diets. Nothing worked. But he gave me a diet to follow. I started at 274 lbs. 11 weeks later I am 235. This gives me a greater start for my surgery which will be in a week. Dr Mailapur knows what he is talking about. He is wonderful. So glad I went to him and did what he said. He cares about his patients. Surgery was Monday Aug 23rd and its Thur 26th. Still little sore. But doing great. Dr M is so wonderful and caring. Can't say enough good about him and his staff. I am loving life again. I feel great.
I can't thank you enough Dr M.

Dr. Mailapur is the most sincere person I have ever met. I believe he loves helping people and seeing them succeed in their goal to become a new person. He or his staff will never rush you. They always have time to answer any question you may have. He has been very supportive and encouraging from the very beginning. He has given me a new lease on life and I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart. I truly love him and all the great things he is doing to help people.
Your friend forever,
Benny Pugh.
