Dr Mailapur is both professional and compassionate. He has made me feel as though I have some control over my own body. He gave me the tool by which I can get my weight under control. I know that it is my responsibility to change my bad eating habits while I have this wonderful tool that Dr Mailapur gave me. Thank you for having confidence in my ability to use this tool. You are the GREATEST DR MAILAPUR! And by the way 29lbs in 3 weeks. Yes!

As far as surgeons go Dr. Mailapur, is one of the most kind and compassionate ones I've ever met. He truly cares about you as a person and not as just another "bypass patient" or "sleeve patient". He is very clear up front that the surgery isn't going to "fix" you and make the weigh loss easy, but it is a tool to be used. I'm 6 months out from the gastric sleeve and have lost over 100 pounds. During my last visit, I don't know who was happier about my weight loss and overall condition, him or me. Not only does he have a great bedside manner, he is a technically superb surgeon and has surrounded himself by a top-notch team to make sure we as patients get exactly what we need to succeed. I give him my highest recommendations as both a surgeon and as a person.

I put my life in Dr. Mailapur’s hands and he in return gave me a new chance at enjoying a quality life. After three (3) months, a loss of 66 lbs. and energy I haven’t had since my twenties, I cannot thank him enough. Dr. Mailapur’s self-confidence, knowledge, skill, and professional care are phenomenal. He is straight forward telling you he is giving you a tool and there are no guarantees. After he explains something, he asks do you understand. He reminds me of one of my undergraduate college professors. His personality and bedside manners are so charming; you just have to love him.

Dr. Mailapur and his staff educate you about the surgical options, pre and post operation expectations and were always willing and available to answer questions. The rigorous process you undertake with Dr. Mailapur calms your fears about the surgery because you undergo a thorough review. Having the surgery was the best decision I've made in years, I have no regrets.

I can only praise Dr. Mailapur’s staff: Jessica, Angie and Madeleine. You get a warm caring feeling the first time you meet or speak to them on the phone.

Dr. Mailapur is a great surgeon and warm caring person. Huntsville is blessed to have such talent as a part of this community. Thank you Dr. Mailapur.

I am two weeks post op gastric sleeve. I have to admit going into this it was terrifying. Once I met with Dr. Mailapur he was so easy to talk to, caring of his patients and would answer anything you had to ask. At first I thought all the prep work he puts you through was obnoxious. But when it came time for my surgery the why of all of it fell into place. All the meetings and the information gets you ready for everything you need to know and by the time you have surgery you know it by heart. He will go above and behind to have you as prepared as you possible can for the outcome and what is yet to come. He has the most professional while still being caring bed side manner of a surgeon I have ever met and I don't like Doctors. The entire experience, while not easy, was made less stressful by his insistence to push knowledge and let you know what you are in for. Also he expects the same from his office staff and the staff that takes care of you at the hospital. He is with you from start to finish and well beyond. Lord help I hope to never have to have a surgery again but if I do he would be the one and only one I would trust with my life. God bless you Dr. Mailapur and your staff. Thank you for being kind and taking care of me. I have lost 25 lbs since surgery and I am doing great. Even at my visit today he told me no matter what he is still there for me if I needed anything or if I had any questions. He said and I quote "I am your go to person". I don't know a surgeon out there that goes that far. And what means the most is that you can tell he means it. So anyone out there who is considering a Gastric surgery. If nothing else go talk to him. I think just by meeting him you will put your trust in him and his staff.

I finally realized that he dots all of I's and crosses his T's to make sure there are not surprises. He doesn't like surprises unless it weight lose.. That's why he has 100% success rate and he takes that seriously. I think the world of Dr. M and would recommend him to anybody anytime...

I can not say enough good things about Dr. M and his staff. I was in a point in my life that I had to change or I would have more health problems. After going to the seminars and meeting with Dr. M. one on one, I knew gastric sleeve was they way for me. Anytime I called their office, they treated me as if I were the only patient they had. The staff had an answer for any question and got me approved with no problems. I had my sleeve done in June and have no regrets. Dr. M. and his staff walked me through each step on what to expect. They gave me great information about the surgery and nutritional data as well. I could not have been more pleased.

Dr. Mailapur is an awesome surgeon and person! He was very frank and informative as was his staff, but very fun loving and personable as well. He and his staff and all of the nurses at the hospital were so nice and supportive and very helpful with all needs and questions. I have nothing negative to say about him or his team. He made it very clear that his job was providing me with this wonderful tool to help me change my life. Once that was accomplished it was up to me to use it to its fullest! I am will always be grateful for his help and look forward to a new and better me!

I had my surgery on Jan 25 2013 and the surgery went very well. Dr. Mailapur was very considerate, told me exactly what would happen and what I should expect. After the first week I was feeling so good afterwards I went back to work. I stayed in the hospital for 1 day and this included the surgery. I have lost 53 pounds in 3 and 1/2 months and am doing great and looking forward to loosing more weight. I would have the surgery all over again knowing how well the surgery went. I absolutely feel great now and am off most of my medicines I took when I was overweight and feel 100 percent better. I thank God for being with me through all of this and am looking forward to my future.

I believe things happen for a reason! I first saw Dr. M in 2008 when I was seeking to have Lap-Band surgery. He strongly discouraged me from having the band and all but said he wouldn't do it. He felt very strongly it was not the right surgery for me. That's not what I wanted to hear. I was terrified of RNY bypass & sleeve was not covered by insurance at that time. So, I went to another doctor who did the lap-band surgery. That surgeon came to a new hospital for my surgery, but then decided he didn't want to remain on staff there.... he continued my care in his office, but his hospital is out of network for me - meaning I had no coverage for band fills or coverage for revision. So, I spoke with him about revision - but that it would mean changing surgeons. I'm sure that was not his ideal outcome, but in the end, it was my decision. In the meantime, I had become a part of many of the support activities provided by Dr. M's program and knew Angie (nurse), so I contacted her for guidance & I found myself going back to Dr. M, along with my husband - who had decided to have VSG also! I think it speaks a lot of him that he took me back! It was a very awkward first meeting, since I had walked away from his advise years ago.... but I think we both took it in stride! It is clear that he knows his business and sticks to his convictions when he thinks someone is making the wrong choice. He is firm, but kind.

Angie, the bariatric program nurse & Linda, the dietitian are great! So kind and very helpful! When my pre-op weight was not coming off - they were both there to help me along the way!! Jessica, the nurse in the office got all of our stuff together and we were both approved quickly!!

I recently had my last pre-op appointment with Dr. Mailapur. He asked me if I would have changed surgeons if I had not had the insurance issues. The question caught me off guard & I had a hard time with the answer. I honestly said, "I don't know". I met several of his patients in the support group meetings, and at the yearly Christmas parties they SANG his praises!! Everyone seemed pleased with him. I talked to my band group friends several times about changing to him, even before I decided to have revision. I also know the amount of support and education I have received with this program vs. the one when I got my band - is night & day!! He wants his patients educated and ready for this life changing surgery!!! So, after having time to think about it, my answer is the same.... would I have still gone to him? I don't know.... I think so... but I can never be sure, as I never really had the option to choose!! But I can say with every certainty that I am glad I did!! Things happen for a reason!!

I am editing this post on 6/25/13 to add that I had my revision from band to sleeve on April 29, 2013. After about a week and a half, I started having some complications. I was not able to keep even water down. Dr. Mailapur did not hesitate to admit me and begin trying to find out what was wrong. I was eventually admitted three times. Each time, Dr. M was highly involved and concerned. He came to my room everyday, most days twice a day! I was very pleased with his care and concern for me during a very scary & difficult time!!
