Kettering Health Network Bariatric Center
Dr. D. Schumacher did an excellent job on my Roux en Y gastric bypass. It's been right at 2 years and I am 3 lbs from my goal weight, which I would have already hit if I didn't sneak foods that I shouldn't now and then. I have lost 164 lbs over the last 2 years and I feel amazing. He and his staff were courteous, respectful, and fully explained everything to me prior to my surgery. I had issues post op due to my blood not wanting to bind with proteins and he kept me in the hospital for 5 days until he was satisfied that the issues were resolved. At my 6 month evaluation, he again went over the possible complications of the surgery in regards to gall bladder failure, and about a month later I started having symptoms. When I went to the ER, the first doctor I saw said he didn't think it was bad enough to remove. I requested them to call in Dr. Schumacher, who without hesitation admitted me and removed the gall bladder which was completely dead! Anyone considering having this surgery should first research on their own and then sit down with him and have a honest open conversation about what you want, what your concerns are, and what your expectations are. You will be required to sit though an informational briefing prior to seeing him, which will give you the opportunity to learn about the various procedures. Originally I went in wanting the lap band but with my family background and medical history I decided on the Roux instead after talking with him. The only down side is that his practice is busy so it can be hard to get in from time to time so be patient. :)
Dr. Brown is a very nice man. He forgot my name a couple times, but I suppose he sees a lot of patients in a day - along with many surgeries. He is actually new to the Dayton, OH area. I believe he was originally from KY. He is in practice with Dr. David Schumacher at Kettering Hospital. They are a center of excellence. My surgery went as planned - took 2 1/2 hours and was done laproscopically.
He made sure on the occasions when I had to see him that I was definitely wanting to do the RNY and he asked me the day of the surgery. He answered all my questions in detail.
I was very satisfied with my surgery - and have no complaints. I would recommend his practice to anyone in the Dayton, OH area. They program they have is amazing and they are always wanting to make sure everything is going as planned for you and are constantly making sure that you have your scheduled appointments set. I am very happy with my decision in Dr. and in hospital!
1.My first impression of Dr. Brown was that he was personable, and knowledgeable. I was impressed with his concern for his patients and the time and care he put into making sure I was ready for my decision. His office staff is willing to work with you about everything from surgical help to appointments. Overall, I was very happy with the whole office experience. Just follow the directions given to you by Dr. Brown and his staff and you will be on your way to WLS. They are experienced in getting approvals and willing to work with you throughout the whole process. Dr Brown made sure that any and all surgical risks were told to me at my appointments. He also made sure that any bodily risk was minimized as he was willing to check for inconsistencies with my health and tell me that he would solve another one of my health issues during surgery. He asked me questions during my appointment to make sure that I was following all procedures and that I was healthy enough for my undertaking. I would rate Dr. Brown as a 10 out of 10 as far as physician's knowledge, beside manner and overall health expert.I am positive that this physician is one of the best I have seen concerning WLS, overall health and follow-up care.
