Kent Sasse & Surgical Associates Bariatric Center
Only meeting Dr. Sasse once I got a nice impression from him. He was pleasant and answered all my questions. I have my 2 week pre-op appointment with him soon so I will get my second impression of him soon.
He explained all the risks of this surgery but expressed that I may be a good canidiate because I dont have any co-morbidities and I am realtively healthy despite the extra weight.
After speaking with Dr. Sasse, I felt very comfortable in choosing him as my surgeon. I like the fact that he is a gastric trauma surgeon. Patients should always research their surgeon, but I would highly recommend Dr. Sasse. He answered all my questions regarding the surgery and also discussed other alternatives. Dr. Sasse's surgical competence and bedside manner were both great. After care is highly emphasized and a structured aftercare program is introduced to the patient prior to surgery. Western Surgical Group has been very helpful in keeping in contact with their patients. WSG has a website for patients to keep in contact with them to ask questions and schedule appointments. There is also a chat room, patient forum, and journal for the patient to track their dietary intake and progress.

Dr.Sasse was very impressive! He made us feel very comfortable! Even with awaiting room full of patients he talked with us as long as we wanted him to. His office staff was great with an exception of one, if you have been there you know who I am referring to. I hope to be able to update more about this after care program soon.
My first impression of Dr. Sasse was that he really knew what he was talking about. He is very kind & sensitive to the special needs of the obese patient. Also, I work with a lot of nurses and chose Dr. Sasse because of his reputation as being a very skilled surgeon.
The main staff involved with Bariatric Surgery were all very polite, caring and professional. I did have a rude encounter with one of his other office staff, but Dr. Sasse addressed the situation, and let me know that he does care how his staff conducts themselves.
Dr. Sasse has a very quiet, confident manner and really emphasized the risks, as well as the aftercare, of this procedure.
Overall, I am very confident in my choice of Surgeons as well as his surgical skill.
The Surgeons office is taking off. It is getting so busy with WLS that they are going to a group format for information. This thing is sweeping the nation.
I love my surgeon, he is young and he acts like he really cares. I have to get my gallbladder out now, and I wouldn't let any one else touch me.
This has been an awesome experience and I am looking forward to feeling even better without the digestive problems my gallbladder is causing me.
There's nothing I don't like about Dr. Sasse, or the western surgical staff.
Before meeting with Dr. Sasse you meet with Karen. She has not only had the surgery but does a 30 minute "class" to make sure you understand the basics of the procedure and how it affects the rest of your life.
Upon first meeting Dr. Sasse I was a bit nervous about his age. He looks very young. However, as he began to talk it was obvious that he not only was knowledgable, but that he is passionate about his work.
He went over all the good things about the surgery and the life changes that follow. Then he did something no other doctor has ever done for me before, he went over every negative aspect, every potential problem, the percentages of complications, and stressed the life long devotion this procedure requires.
For our first meeting, I was extremely impressed and glad I had chosen him.
UPDATE 07/07/03: Dr. Sasse did a FANTASTIC job on my surgery. He came and saw me both days I was in the hospital. He was professional, polite, and genuinely interested in my progress.
The only thing I could say to others is to be sure to ask if you get staples or sutures (the staples don't heal as fast and seem to leave larger scars) and to find out what your in hospital diet will be. Some doctors go to a heavier diet right in the hospital and from an informal guess it seems that those patients do better with adjusting to fod post-op than those on clear liquids in hospital.
I first met Dr. Sasse in Dec. 2001. He removed my gallbladder. I was referred to him by the emergency room at Northern Nv. Medical Center. He is very concerned with his patients. He makes sure that you are comfortable with every procedure. He totally explains everything to you. He spends time with you, he's not just in and out. He is real! His office staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. They give you the best experience possible. I would and have recommended Dr. Sasse to anyone who is anticipating any surgery. My impression of Dr. Sasse and his staff is that they are genuinely concerned for all their patients.
I had a brief visit with him in August, and remember he had a pleasant manner and conveyed the seriousness and risks of having this surgery to me and my husband. That was the only contact I have had with him since. I have had very little contact with the staff and I understand they discourage phone calls on status. I feel that they should hire more people to help with communicating with patients. He emphasizes aftercare to be extremely important and asks that patients attend support groups.
