I met with Dr. Schweitzer Nov 28th 2005 and he agreed to do my surgery. It will have to be done open RNY but I will have to complete my 6 month diet first. My first impression was good. He is down to earth and even laughed at me when I said silly stuff. I am really comfortable with him as my surgeon and look forward to being in his care.
Dr. Schweitzer is wonderful. He is to the point, but he does have a great sense of humor. The man is SUPER busy, but this is because of his skill. The doctors office staff is great, helpful, and caring. Pat Jordan, nurse practitioner, is also wonderful. I see her for my fills and it is always nice to talk to her. It's such a friendly visit. Overall, DR. Schweitzer and his staff get an A++++++++++

Tom Magnuson is GREAT! Busy, but GREAT. In my consult, he was concerned that I meet the requirements for surgery and was comfortable with my decision to have it done. He was against the laparoscopic procedure, citing \"too many complications\" and instead insisating on an Open RNY. He is very busy (he said he does 5 of these a week) and I did not see him again until the day of surgery. Post surgery he relies on his residents A LOT, but I saw him everyday. He emphasized aftercare and nutritional counselling. he actually would not do the surgery without my seeing a Nutritionist first, and then again after. He was plain about the risks (20%) of complications, and in fact I developed a ventral hernia that was repaired later. His office staff is first rate and the surgical clinic folks are top notch.
My first impression of Dr. Magnuson was that he was very knowledgeable and kind. He explained every detail about was was going to happen to me and made me comfortable about my decision. His office staff treated me with respect and kept the atmosphere light and professional. The fact that I only saw Dr. Magnuson once before the surgery had me a little worried but he made me feel really calm the day of surgery and he came to see me in the hospital the rest of my stay. I would rate Dr. Magnuson a 10/10. I would recommend him to anyone in the area who needs a surgeon with competence and an efficient staff. Aftercare has been good. The support group meetings have been wonderful.
I met Dr. Schweitzer for my initial consultation on June 12, 2006. Because of all my research, my impression was no surprise. I found him to be very professional and ready to answer all my questions no matter how insignificant they may be. It's hard to determine a person's personality with only a 15 minute visit, but I can tell you I have the utmost confidence in his expertise and skill. Though the four month wait for an appointment was frustrating, it proves his services are in high demand. I'm thrilled to have one of the best surgeons in the field of bariatric surgery and am pleased at the prospect of knowing Dr. Schweitzer better. As this will be a life-long committment, I'm sure I'll get that chance.rnrnrn
I met with Dr. Magnuson on 6/31/06 and found him to be very concentrated on why I was there and nothing else. I hope his bedside manner improves while I am in the hospital. I will update after surgery which is 7/28/06. rnrnI have never had to pay extra for the facility when visiting a doctor for a regular appt. The hospital charges nearly $300 for sitting in a chair not using anything but air space. Of course my insurance paid all but my copay, but I had already paid my copay for the doctor and was aplaud at the fact that my insurance company and I were having to pay for the doctor's space. I believe that this should be covered by the money the doctor makes as business expense not the patient.
