I have met Dr.Rodriguez twice now and he seemed like a very caring man.. The main thing about him is he is very direct and up front with you and what is expected of you...And the out come of the surgery..He will answer any question no matter how small.
I am looking forward to him doing the surgery
His staff is great as well...And what can I say about Paulette....She lets you know the hard facts as well....

Very good first impression from the orientation meeting last July.

When I met and spoke to Dr. Rodriguez and found out he was a Naval flight surgeon, a family man, and a spiritual person (prayer on desk), I felt even more comfortable.
Paulette and other staff are great..very helpful.

He cares; it's not just a job to him.

It is part of the package..to commit to one year of caring for yourself.

Support groups are run by Psychologists. Attended one so far.
Very straight-forward about risks.
So far I rate him as excellent.
Preferably you have both. But if you can have only one, Surgical Competence.

Dr. Rodriguez seemed to be a caring and concerned surgeon. He went to great lengths to explain the risks involved and to emphasize that this is not an easy thing to go through. He also explained that for this to be a long term solution, aftercare is absolutely the most important part of the process. S & W has an excellent staff and provides a very structured aftercare program. I believe that Dr. Rodriguez who is extremely competent and he seems like he would have an excellent bedside manner.

I really enjoyed my consultation with Dr. Rodriguez. He was very informative and most importantly he made me feel very comfortable! He does stress the importance of taking out time each day to exercise. We discussed the risks of surgery even though I was pretty much aware of those.

My first impression of Dr. Rodriguez was that he was kinda quiet, but I really liked him a lot. He seems like a genuinely caring doctor. Well after seeing him a couple more times, he is a wonderful surgeon. I do believe he really cares about his patients. He did make certain that I knew all of the risks of the surgery and that it was a major surgery and something to think about. He also emphasizes that you need to commit an hour to your self everyday for exercise. I would recommend him for this surgery any day.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. RODRIGUEZ WAS THAT HE LOOKED VERY YOUNG (and nothing like the picture hanging in his office). He was a bit late, ok, "A LOT LATE" but explained that since he's so informative and takes that extra time to make his patients fully understand what's going on is why he often fall a little behind schedule. His staff is excellent as far as getting information out to the patient, calling for appt. reminders, etc. Dr. Rodriguez was very straight forward about his feelings of WLS. He stressed that the outcome will be judged in one year..not on day 2 following surgery when you're feeling like @#$% and second guessing yourself. He let's you know that the road is not going to be easy, but with a open mind and following his strict but fair after-care program, you will be rewarded 110%. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence, overall, was GREAT!

Dr. Rodriguez seems to be a very caring person. I am very impressed with him and his staff. This process has been almost 11 months in the works. He stresses that this is the tool, that the success is totally up to the individual. He was precise and very open to the surgical risks and the things that could go wrong after surgery. I would rate him as excellent. To me, both surgical competence and bedside manner are both important. I feel confident that I will be in good hands.

My first impression of Dr. Rodriguez was of a very nice but quiet man. My impression changed but only to add the words wonderful, supportive, and caring.

His office staff is terrific. They are supportive of you and do everything they can to help.

There is nothing that i don't like about him. I was admitted into the hospital 2 weeks after my surgery for blood on the spleen (non-surgery related). At first they were afraid it was related to my surgery and gave me every test possible. Dr. Rodriguez came by my room several times a day to see how i was doing. He seemed to take it personal that i was back in the hospital. After i was released a month later he would call me at home to follow up and see how i was doing. He went above and beyond the call of duty as my bariatric surgeon.

He has a structured aftercare program. I went in every month for the first six months. Each month a different food item was added and we discussed how my excercising, eating, and water intake was going.

Overall, I give Dr. Roriguez five stars for explaining the risks of surgery, his bedside manner, and overall patient interaction.

My surgery was 06-05-02. In my opinion, Dr. Joaquin Rodriguez is an excellent surgeon. I have had no problems, other than the ones expected (blood pressure, nausea, etc.). The Scott & White aftercare program is very structured. The surgeons do the surgery and most of the aftercare is handled by their Nurse Practioner Paulette Whitefield. I believe that she is very good in her position. Both doctors Rodriguez and Symmonds together currently do the LAP. surgeries for Scott & White. It was an extra comfort to me knowing that two Bariatric Specialists were there doing my surgery.

Again, from my personal experience, my opinion is that, Dr. Rodriguez is an experienced and, an excellent surgeon. I personally am very greatful for the new life that he has given me.
