I had the "sleeve" with Dr. Ramos Kelly one week ago. It is without hesitation that I recommend this doctor. The unfamiliar is sometimes frightening and having surgery in Mexico is no exception. Dr. Kelly and his team make you feel safe and comfortable from the moment you step off the plane. Dr. Kelly's driver (Jorge) was there to pick us up at the airport and accompanied me for all pre op testing and on the hospital tour. Jorge is bi-lingual so it is so comforting to have someone there who explains what is happening. The hotel was beautiful. The doctor even has special meal services for his patients. And here is something you don't hear of in the states....house calls! That's right...the doctor came by the hotel to visit and discuss my upcoming surgery. Care in the clinic was great. I was sent home with a DVD of my swallow test and the detailed notes from my surgery (what doctor in the states does this?). Dr. Kelly also sews the staple line of your sleeve. This doctor only does a few surgeries per day. Some of the other doctors I considered did up to 13-15 per day! Additionally, he is certified on the American Boards. I could only find one other surgeon in Mexico that was American Board Certified. I left Mexico with a new lease on life and my doctors direct cell phone number...again what doc in the states does that? Before I had the surgery I did my homework. I went on Dr. Kelly's Pateints Facebook page (Dr. Ramos Kelly Patients) and asked questions. Members are happy to share and it is a great forum to learn about this talented and caring surgeon. My only regret....not doing this sooner!

I had VSG surgery on March 13th 2015 with Dr Ramos Kelly. He is an awesome surgeon as well as a great guy. He really cares about his patients. Do not be afraid to have surgery in Mexico. I had great care there and Dr Kelly came to see me while I was in the clinic multiple times. I had my gallbladder removed in the US a couple of years ago and I never once saw my surgeon. (Although I was charged for seeing him). In the U.S. The Dr used staples to close my incisions which caused me great discomfort and a lot of scarring. Dr Kelly used stitches which did not hurt at all and are healing nicely. The Vsg surgery itself was not painful. I can't lie. The gas pains from the gas they use in surgery did hurt really bad for 24 hrs only. The accommodations are nice in Mexico. The clinic I stayed in for two days was small and really clean. Not noisy like American hospitals. I would do it again and will if I ever need anymore surgery. The experience was so simple and easy. I chose dr Kelly out of all the Drs because he only did a couple surgeries a day and I got to talk to him on the phone before I even booked my surgery. He called me multiple times checking to see if I had questions. He also has his resume with all his credentials online for anyone to see. He has a ton of experience and I just had a good feeling about him to be honest and I went with my gut feeling which turned out to be correct. I am doing well, losing weight and staying in control of my eating for once in my life. Thanks dr Kelly.

I want everyone to know that everything was very smooth. I was lucky not to have pain, just discomfort in my back. I slept most of tHe time during my stay in Clinica San Juan. I had the revision since I had the lapband so Dr Kelly needed to removed it first and then create the sleeve. By the end of the second day I was walking and watching TV. IClinica San Juan is such a nice small, cute clinic. The nurses are the best!!! And Dr Kelly and his team are the just amazing!!!! I am ready to start my new life. I can not wait to show my after/before pictures. For all of you that are next, let me tell you that you are in good hands!

So here is my update from surgery last Friday, May 22, 2015. I flew into San Diego at 11am and was picked up by Jorge shortly after. We crossed the border very easily. Our first stop was to Nova for the labs and chest X-rays. Then Jorge drove us to Clinica San Juan where I was admitted and completes some initial paperwork, paid my clinic fee of $950. Jorge sat down and explained the process and took my payment and paperwork for Dr. Kelly. Then the nurse came to get me and get me setup in my room and hooked me up to an IV. I waited for quite some time before I went into surgery close to 6pm and they wheeled me to the OR. The antheselogist gave me some morphine and with in seconds I was getting drowsy. I then woke up in my room. I just remember waking up to my husband holding my hand. I was very groggy. I started having pains and was nauseas. The next day was vomiting and pain throughout the day. I managed to get some walking in but tired fast and felt nauseous. Took my first shower and felt pretty good. That took all my energy to do. By the second day I was up and moving around more. We packed up and I was discharged from the clinic. The Ceci picked us up to go to Hospital Angeles to complete our swallow test. All went good there! Then she took us to the hotel Lucerna where we stayed out last night. I had a couple sips of the broth at the hotel, restes and did some walking. Dr. Kelly stopped by to check on me that night in the hotel also. I was still in some pain in my incision area. Got up the day we left and went to have jello in the restaurant at the hotel and only got a few bites of that too. Jorge arrived to pick us up at the hotel to bring us back to the airport. We waited for Dr. Kelly to see us one last time. Then Jorge drove us to the border where we waited in line for 45 minutes, longer than usual. Showed our passports and went through. Jorge dropped us back off at the airport and we headed home. It was a very long day by the time I got home. I was exhausted and had a lot of pain in my incision area. It was quite an experience and I am very glad I had this opportunity to do this and love Dr. Kelly! He is wonderful and very professional! A very smooth procedure with Dr. Kelly! Thank you Dr. Kelly for giving me a chance at a healthy long life! To a new me!

I just returned from Tijuana and Dr. Kelly's care on Tuesday. What an experience! I have to admit that it was harder than I anticipated, but also, like having a baby...you forget the pain when the excitement of your new life begins :). When I arrived we went immediately to get a chest Xray and bloodwork. Can I just say that I would NEVER be able to do those things in under 30 minutes here at home? LOL. I would be there all day! The next morning, I went to Clinica San Juan. The clinic is new and beautiful and SPOTLESS. The nurses did have a bit of a language barrier, however they always knew what I needed. I had my google translator ready to use, but didn't need it at all. One thing I will mention is that your guest will be sleeping in a recliner. It does lean all the way back, however you should bring a pillow and blanket of your own as they don't provide this for you at the clinic. My room was the only semi private room, but it didn't feel semi private. I shared with another girl who had her surgery the same day as me. There is an actual wall between the two rooms, just an opening to walk through. Also, on my side, I had a nice little patio with a sliding glass door and a screen. It was very nice to have open with a breeze blowing through the room. The first day, I won't lie, was miserable. I didn't have the dreaded gas pains, but I was pretty uncomfortable. It got better each day. Dr. Kelly checked on me several times each day. My swallow test was on Sunday Morning, and Dr. Kelly was there with his associate Dr. Vazquez. Everything was perfect. NO LEAKS! WOOHOO! I was given all my Xrays, and meds to take home along with my surgical report. At that point, we were taken to the Lucerna, and Dr. Kelly was there before we were! The next morning, I was outside waiting to leave and guess who was there AGAIN to see us off and make sure we had no additional questions? Dr. Kelly! He even arranged for us to have a brief shopping trip prior to crossing the border. :)
So in closing, I want to thank Dr. Kelly and his staff for the excellent care I received as his patient. There wasn't a moment that I felt alone or that my concerns went unheard. Dr. Kelly spent as much time with me and my numerous questions and concerns as I needed. The staff at San Juan Clinica was very professional as well. I never waited for medicine or anything that I needed. I would highly recommend Dr. Kelly and his staff to my closest family members and friends. I would never have received the promptness, level of care and true compassion and interest in my procedure in the States as I experienced with him.

First of all, I want to say, how thankful I am that I did my research. I researched for me and my husband to have surgery in Mexico for over a year. I had a friend who had surgery with Dr. Kelly and had fantastic results. I was going to go with another physician before I had heard about Dr. Kelly but during my research I realized that Dr. Kelly was definitely the one for us. I called the number that was given to me by my friend and guess who answered, Dr. Kelly himself. He was out having dinner with his family but he still spoke to me for a very long time. We got together again on the phone later and went through lots of questions and answers and information. His office mailed me all the forms and I filled them out, mailed them back & Soon we decided on a date. My husband does a lot of traveling for his job so we had to be very particular about the days we could go for surgery. We went on March 8 of 2012. We flew into San yeah go on Wednesday night. We were picked up by Dr. Kelly's wife Cece and one of his assistants. They drove us to the hospital. They were very friendly. They stopped at the store before we went to the hospital and got us something to drink then drove us to the hospital & got us checked in. We went to our rooms, and even though it was very late Dr. Kelly stopped in to check on us. Then we showered, and slept in the guest bed together the night before having our surgeries. The next day we were both weighed, seen by the cardiologist, then Dr. Kelly came in and talked with us & answered all our questions, explained everything that was about to happen. The nurses put in her IVs took blood and then they came and got us for surgery one after the other. The worst part was waiting for my husband to get out of surgery before me, LOL. After our consecutive surgeries we both went our own rooms so that we could both have our own hospital bed to ourselves. Thankfully, I didn't have gas pains but I had a little nausea that night, I threw up once or twice just a little. But they gave us medicine for that & for pain in our IV. all of the Nurses were very attentive too. As a medical professional I can say that we were treated way better than we ever have been for any previous procedures or surgeries in the states. It's a sad fact but it is true. We both felt just fine the next day, I was a little tired after surgery and being up all day and night the day before because I couldn't sleep, due to the excitement and some anxiety over having surgery the next day, LOL The day after surgery we both got up walked around, showered, I put on some make up, fixed my hair, found anybody who would listen to talk to, LOL, then we left Saturday for the Beautiful Lucerne hotel, spent the day there walking & having the best broth ever!! They picked us up the next morning Took us to have our swallow test. After that was successful, CC picked us up once again and we headed to the airport. While we sat in line waiting to get back across the border we did a little shopping also. We flew home in no pain whatsoever once we arrived back in our state we had to drive an hour and a half from the airport to our house. We were a little tired but we never had any pain whatsoever. Monday morning we went back to work, never took one single pain pill and never had to use a GasX either. We had the perfect surgeries in my opinion. And of course Dr. Kelly visited us every single day at the hospital and at the hotel. He actually came by more than once a day at the hospital. And he never rushed when we were talking. He would sit down and chat with you just like he was a friend. I'm sure he doesn't have time to do that every single day with every single person but apparently he had enough time the days we were there. We were very thankful for that not that We expected it at all. Dr. Jaime Ricardo Ramos-Kelly is awesome! we have recommended him to all our friends that are interested in weight-loss surgery. Several have already had their surgeries with Dr. Kelly her our recommendationand have all had excellent results just like we did! I'm so thankful that we found Dr. Kelly, and we would do this all over again in a heartbeat using only him, of course As a matter fact we are so confident him that we are bringing our one and only son to have his surgery this summer. and that is the best recommendation ever, when you will bring your family especially your one and only child to them. Best of luck to everyone and I hope this helps make your decision.

I had vsg surgery in July 2014.
I first heard of Dr Ramos Kelly from a friend of mine who had the same surgery a couple of years ago.I began by doing research on the computer to make sure this is a surgeon I would feel comfortable with. I've then decided to go ahead and fill out the information card online and then I filled out the medical questionnaire and set a date and time to talk to him. When I spoke with him I had a friend of mine on the phone with me. we are both registered nurses. We had a lot of questions for him to answer, and he answer all of them with no problems. I felt totally comfortable and knew that this was the surgeon for me.
I flew into San Diego on a Tuesday and had surgery the same day. Dr kelly wife picked me and my friend up from the airport and took us to nova hospital. there she helped us with our paperwork and I had my labs drawn and then I checked into my room. Shortly after that dr kelly came in and introduced herself. I also met with the anesthesiologist and the cardiologist who performed an EKG.maybe about an hour after that I was taken to surgery. For some reason I was not nervous at all I was excited. I woke up and my room a little while later. The first thing I felt where the gas pains. Dr kelly was there along with the anesthesiologist. After they left the room I made my friend help me up out of the bed so I could begin walking. I had to read through my research that the best thing to get rid of the gas pain was to walk. I walked constantly. I had an IV in my arm so I went to the bathroom every hour and a half and so I took that time to walk the halls. The staff at the hospital were very friendly and they pretty much understood English. By the next morning I still had some gas pains but not as bad as the night before so I just continued to walk. The morning after that I checked out the hospital and dr kelly wife took us over to Angeles to have my leak test. I won't lie the dye that you drink is disgusting. Thankfully Dr. Kelly's wife had a Gatorade waiting for me. Dr kelly did notice during my leak test that I had some extra swelling in my esophagus so he said he would keep an eye on it and maybe give me a steroid shot later. From there dr kelly wife took us to hotel Lucerne, which was unbelievably beautiful. My friend and I sat by the pool and put our feet in. It was so nice. Felt like I was on vacation. My room was spectacular. I had a balcony that overlooked the pool area and I had chairs out there that I could sit and lounge on. A little while after that dr kelly and his wife came by my hotel room. She ended up giving me a steroid shot. I had a wonderful night that evening. By that time I was not having any pain at all. I woke up for breakfast and I had some jello. also the night before I had some chicken stock which was very tasty. That next morning dr kelly wife drove me and my friend back across the border to the airport. After I got home I still never had any pain. I never had to take any pain medicine. My recovery has been wonderful. At this time I am down 96 pounds. I feel wonderful!

I had the absolute best experience with Dr Kelly in Mexico! the fact that he is certified with the American Board of dairy atrick surgeons, and SAGES & FACS(?) set them apart from the other surgeons! the other surgeons in Mexico that do the sleeve are not bariatric certified because Mexico has no bariatric certification. I found that out calling the American Board and asking questions. Turns out, they are a general surgeon.so when you're searching in Mexico for bariatric surgeon, why not get Mexico prices with the experience and the training that American surgeons have been through? He was trained here in the states served in our military and now practices in Mexico with his family.I feel like it really is the best of both worlds. I wouldn't have been able to afford an American trained doctor here in the States.I'm so thankful for dr. Kelly! I had a friend that I meant in the hotel when I was in Mexico and he did not get the right surgeon and he is having major complications. When they say they have a less than 1% complication rate, that's because they don't call their customers back when they call in to complain about a complication. My friend has called his doctor 20 times and no one will acknowledge him or call him back. Don't trust the other surgeons in Mexico they have no accountability. Dr Kelly is accountable to the American Board of bariatric surgeons and other people that we know and trust in America.just please be careful and choose wisely! Your life depends on it. Besides his qualifications, he has been nothing but kind and generous to me and my family. They make you feel like part of the family when you go there. He was the only surgeon that came to the hotel and the hospital everyday to visit me and make sure I was okay. After I left I was given his phone number and told to call if I had any questions. You did not get other surgeons phone numbers! That is extremely rare and unheard of. He also has a Facebook page called DR. RAMOS KELLY - patients
where you can post questions and get to know his other patients. I've never had this kind of service in America! He was the only surgeon that allowed me to talk on the phone with him before surgery. Don't take my word for it, call him! However because he is so highly qualified there are other people on the internet trying to say that he works for them like Mexico bariatric centers. He does not work for Mexico bariatric centers. What they do is a switch and bait. They get people down there with the assumption that Dr Kelly will be treating them and then when they get there they say Oh Dr Kelly is on vacation but this other surgeons going to take care of you. By that time you've already paid for your airfare and hotel and the surgery and you go through with it. Don't fall for that! Beware! Dr Kelly's only true website is http://www.wlsclinic.com/dr-ramos-kelly.html

I got my revision with Dr. Kelly Sept 2014. Initially, I thought Dr. kelly and his staff were nice. I paid my money and sent in the contract. Heath kept in contact with me and CeCe picked me up from the Airport. She also was the one that drove me around to get test I needed after surgery.
The hospital was plain and there were some Language barriers but we got through it. Not a problem, I was in a country that speaks spanish and it was to be expected.
I got home and after about two weeks noticed, I had NO restriction whatsoever. It was like I never had the surgery besides the slight pain in the surgery site! Initially, I lost 15 pounds but that was I'm sure due to me being sick the first few weeks. After a month I realized something was really wrong and By then I had already started talking to Heath about the situation. He said he would speak to Dr. Kelly but over the next several months, and the back and forth, we still had gotten nowhere. Dr. Kelly just was not communicating with me very much. The rare time I did get to speak to him, I would have to explain the situation over again. Frustrating
By January, I finally started calling often to try to get someone to give me some answers as to getting the top portion of my revision done on my stomach since Dr. Kelly did not complete that part. He agreed to do it and at a reduced price which I agreed to as well. Yet, over the next month when I called to schedule his Assistant Perla was giving me the full price and when I did speak to Dr. Kelly he was rude.
By February, I went on to the Patient FB page to express my concerns. Not only did the moderators erase my comments and say I was lying, but when I asked why they did it, Kelly chimed in that I had a personality disorder. This is actually his comment if you don't agree with him. In fact I copied a conversation of Dr. Kelly going off on another patient that had grievances as well. Then he even went off on other patients that agreed with her.
Mind you, No one was initially being disrespectful except for Dr. Kelly. I would advise first off, if you are getting a revision, think twice about Kelly and second be prepared for a complete change of character once you fork over your money. This man is rude and very unprofessional. Anyone that would like a transcript of his antics can email me at [email protected]

My experience with Dr. Jamie Kelly Ramos
Heath- was always available and always answered my 100 million questions, that was really comforting, I am a pretty impulsive person and had the surgery booked one week after deciding to do this, they asked me to speak to the doctor which I did on January 30th, he assessed by phone that I was a candidate. I put in all my paper work (signed contract and questionnaire that he has on line) on February 2nd I started my liquid diet, and had booked my airline tickets and was ready to go..this is my accurate description of my experience ( while in the hospital I was recording notes, so I could be as detailed as possible)
I arrived in San Diego February 5, 2015- I was greeted by a late driver (Horhae- sorry for the miss spelling) who was about 15 minutes late, although he made up for it with his calming demeanor and sincere apology. Luckily when he arrived he introduced me to another young women who had the surgery a few days prior we briefly chatted and she had told me that it did hurt but more of the gas then anything and that her incisions were very small but still in a little bit of pain- (which brought a sense of relief to know that she made it out alive) then we were on our way, Tijuana was no more than 20 minutes away, we had to stop at the border crossing for them to do a search of the vehicle (which was fine and only took a couple minutes max)- again we were on our way.
We got to the hospital about 130 and the driver took my luggage inside and to a private waiting room, sat down a few minutes and then Perla came in- she was all business, I found her to be not all that engaging, a bit cold (as this was my very first surgery it would have been nice to have someone who understood that, and made me feel at ease) None the less she was polite and courteous, and she was seriously ALL about the money, she had me start signing paper work EVEN though I had not seen the Dr. or had a consultation, grudgingly I signed the paperwork but was thinking to myself where else in the world do you sign off on paper work without seeing the Dr first?
I went for blood work right away while I was still signing the paper work (do note that most of it is in Spanish- they do give you an English copy to read – but it felt extremely ackward with both driver and Perla staring at me, I got the impression that I should hurry up) She then took me to go and get the payment, I payed the hospital and there was no issues with that, got my receipt right away- I mentioned to her that I was starving, as at this point I had been up for 24 hours and have not had anything in my stomach for the longest time…Now this is where the problems started, she told me that she would get me something right away (a LIE) – she did not, but even better than that she told me that the doctors “interact terminal” was broken, she asked me can I pay by paypal, I told her NO! I said I have and will be paying by Credit card as it states that in the contract as an option (meanwhile, I already told her and CeCe when they asked me for the travelers cheque that I would be paying by cc, they said that was fine, come to find out the machine is broken, seemed really shady and I told her this is the only way..She told me not to worry and that we would figure out a way. Again I felt pissed off as I had not even met with the doctor and she was all about the money felt so rushed, felt unprofessional and I felt as if I flew from Canada where do you think im going? You will get your money We then went to go and do the EKG exam, which was fine. I asked Perla to call my mother and let her know that I was fine after surgery she said she would, took the number and everything, I was so grateful for this- but it did it happen –NO!
Hospital room- so they take me to the room, im exhausted and starving quite frankly I was getting to the point of feeling faint BUT the room is really nice at Angelise (really nice I was surprised, clean, big and nice shower) they had a safe, and a DVD player (bring movies if you can) as expected the TV was and is mostly in Spanish so you should probably bring some DVD’s that would have been helpful to know, finally feeling like I could relax, I told the nurse that I was starving and please can I have some food, she said yes no problem..waiting, waiting, waiting and nothing ..then 30 minutes later Perla comes in telling me that I need to pay via pay pal again I told her that I don’t have that, then she said to call my cc company and tell them that I will deposit money into this specific account, to which she provided a void cheque.
I was asked to sign additional paper work (come on people I have been signing paper work for at least 30 -45 minutes, why NOT give me all the paper work to sign at one time- get it together)- 3 additional people came to the room to get me to sign more paper work- it allowed me to think that they don’t have their Shi* together! This process is daunting enough!
I called the company and they said that I would only be able to western union the money and that I could only western union 999.99 (for that current day and do an additional 999.99 the following day and so on, problem was that I had to pay 2400.00) so that was not going to work, asked about email money transfers, but Mexico does not have this service, so the only option that was left was to go to a bank, so back to San Diego we go even though I informed the driver that I can use any bank, by this time my nerves and hunger were getting the best of me, I was not impressed with the poor or better yet lack of communication, I was annoyed, tired and starving, I get the money and ask the driver to take me to a store, luckily there was a convenience store a couple feet from the bank, I bought some applesauce, some water, coconut water – that applesauce was a life saver! We get back to the hospital and the driver drops me off so I think! Finally I devour the applesauce and finally think its time to relax. Think again! Driver comes in and asks for the payment, I told him no I will give it to the Dr, directly he said ok and left. By this time its roughly 4pm! And guess what still no food!!!
Cecilia aka Cece (this lady is a piece of work! Hands down. She comes to my room about an hour later, and lets be real here, she was totally putting on a show, well the good news is that I seen thru her act), as I have been around many of people and I am extremely good at reading people! This one folks did NOT fool me! She comes in and asks for the payment right away, no courting, no genuine concern for my well-being, just straight to the point, I have read many of reviews and all painting her with the mother Theresa paint brush, that WAS not my experience, mean while she then tried to scam me by saying and I quote “do you have the money, I said yes I do, she asked ok so its 2500.00 you have correct, UHM NO! – scammer “its 2400.00 as per the contract” at that point is when I lost full and utter respect for the women, how are you going to try and scam one of your patients, that really left a bad taste in my mouth that she would even attempt to do that, and that’s when I really knew the merit of the women I was dealing with! – clearly NOT an honest one, and what a horrible representation of a company to have this person to deal with customers, no manners and clearly no class!
She then was apologizing to me, and using the driver to translate to me, meanwhile when your asking and talking about the money your English is just fine!she was telling him that it states in the contract that you can pay by pay pal to which I told her it states that NO WHERE! And that you should pay by travelers cheque as this is the preferred method of payment, now I had to check her on that I advised that it states that NO WHERE! I felt like she was being argumentative with me, which she had no reason to as they were in the wrong here, I explained that if CC is not an option then remove that portion or if its broken then speak up so the next person wont have the same experience that I was going thry, she said they will be adding the portion about pay pall I gave her the money and she provided the receipt.
Now this is the 3rd person that I am telling I am starving, she said Ok I will get you some food, - I think that was the most honest thing she stated! I asked her and the driver if either of them could call my mother as I travelled alone and needed someone to call her and let her know that I was out of surgery and doing fine, BOTH took my mother’s number and …She also mentioned that Dr. Ramos would come by and see me that evening, she leaves, and then about 15 minutes later I got some broth and jello (yes the jello was expired) so I didn’t eat it ! Hooray only took 2.5 hours but at that point I was so focused on the broth I relaxed and finally was able to unwind and take a nap
Dr. Ramos Kelly came by around 5:45pm but said that he had to go and take care of something and would be back about 6:30, he came back at 7:30 and we talked briefly about complications and what I should be expecting, that I should be up and walking no less then 6 hours after surgey, so the surgery was scheduled at 12noon, and that I would be in recovery for 2 hours, and after that will be brought back to my room to start the walking to release the gas. Dr Kelly, seemed nice enough I couldn’t really gage him, as he was only there for a few minutes and then he was off again
I received more broth and jello, this time it was not expired!!! Awesome! Also the guest relations coordinator came to the room and asked if I wanted any movies !!!! Yes so they have a book that you can choose the movies that you want the selection is decent enough especially when there is only a couple of English tv stations
Dr Kelly, came in with the anesthesiologist who was super sweet and nice, she told me she would take care of me, I really felt that she was genuine, and really sweet and kind, I liked her immediately, she was the warmest person that I had met during this entire trip! Felt great, asked me a couple questions and then they were off again
I went to sleep (and it was ROUGH!) the mattress was so itty bitty and thin and quite uncomfortable, luckily I travelled alone so I took the pad off of the bench and put it under the hospital mattress! All was well there after
Surgery day- all was well, I wasn’t allowed any fluids for 12 hours before surgery, they came into my room and wheeled me down to the operating room, note to self **go to the washroom first, I had to pee, and asked if I could use the bathroom, they told me no and that I would have to use a bed pan- embarrassing! I told them I can walk to a washroom but they didn’t want me getting out of bed, anyways I did what I had to and about 20-30 minutes later they rolled me into the operating room, they also placed these white stalkings on my legs while wheeling me I heard loud music playing, I was wondering are they going to have a party while operating, I definitely hoped not, once I got in, the music stopped and I see my favorite anesthesiologist she told me not to worry and advised that they would be giving me some medicine, well! Next thing I knew I was coming in and out of consciousness, I was in recovery for about 2 hours but I was dosing off and then I was lucid back and forth, it didn’t hurt I felt fine, they eventually wheeled me upstairs to my room, I sleept for another few hours and then got up and started walking, at this point I called my mother who was emotionally shaken as NO ONE HAD CALLED HER!
I walked for about 25 minutes, slow and controlled movements, but after that little bit of walking I was exhausted and slept more! They gave you these pressurized leggings with air, (I’m sure that’s not the name) so the air would go up one panel then to the next and so on, the Doctor came in and told me that I needed to use the lung capacity adapter (I’m sure that’s not the name) You blow into it and as you do there are three balls that will be filled with air and rise to the top, so I tried to do the exercise but every time I did, I would throw up, I threw up about 3x.- It was bloody in color and was totally disgustuing- And the Dr said that I didn’t have to do it anymore (Thank heavens) I was tired of throwing up. I went to sleep but everytime you have to go to the washroom you have to take the leg things off, and then ask the nurse to help you put them back on
I woke up determined to walk around, So I would walk for 30-45 minutes and then take an hour or 2 hour break and then do it again, You have to walk this is the best method to get the gas out, whats surprising is that the gas (its not as if your actually burping or farting- anywho the gas I guess just goes and thus I started feeling a lot better) we did the dye test (blah- tasted horrible) the doctor advised that I could finally start eating, as my test was all good! But after the dye and not eating for24 hours and having surgery my stomach was squeamish, I knew that I was going to throw up that dye and that’s exactly what I did, but I felt fine a little sore but that was exected overall I felt fine, the nurse let me take a shower and I felt so much better, she changed my bandages and felt like a new women. Plus it was the first time I got to see the incisions that were super small, which I thought was great I did more walking and felt even better, the movies were great as a welcomed distraction, sun shining outside felt great to feel like I was in the clear, I did not have to wear either leggings which was awesome!
I was never in pain the entire time from the surgery, they kept asking (the nurses but I was fine) its good to know that in the event that you are, that you will have medication
Nurses- most of them speak some English some better than others but overall you could tell that they liked their jobs and that they were there to help you, felt great to have some one care about you,- please remember to tip them, I felt it was important to do so as my nurse took such great care of me
Discharge Day- I was up early and I had my shower I felt great, bags packed ready to go. Dr. Kelly came in around 10:30 ish and asked if I had any questions, and told me he would be discharging me shortly. I told him that I was very upset at the fact that no one had called my family to let them know that I was ok after surgery, he said oh well my wife doesn’t speak English and the driver is just that a driver, he said why didn’t you tell me I would have called, I said 3 people told me they were going to do something I shouldn’t have even had to ask two others, but clearly I did, and they still could not do what was requested, I explained it was my first surgery and the day of I wasn’t really thinking. That I’m sure it was my nerves or else I would have told him to call my mom..but this is something that I think should be asked prior to surgery .don’t you?
He gave me a video (still not sure what’s on it) all my lab results, the EKG, the swallow test, and two X-rays (that was nice)- also a doctor’s note in case I needed it. CeCe came and gave me the medication that I would need for the month, and some gatoride, it was all fine, I was so ready to get out of the hospital, one step closer to living my life, so then they came and wheeled me into the lounge and I waited, and waited, the customer realtions women came and advised that there was a problem with the billing, I told her I have receipts of everything and she said that Dr. Kelly has to have this cleared up prior to leaving, again I stated I had the receipts and I was ready to leave she told me that they can not release me until the full payment has been made, I start calling Dr. Kelly and ask why I have not been released, he told me that I had and that he would follow up, as the Client Relations women advised that they could not get a hold of the Dr. and that if I wanted to leave that I could just settle the price with them, UHM NO!
I have contract and paid what I was supposed to so take that up with the Dr, about 1 hour passes and Im calling the DR and CeCe and guess what! Neither are answering..Im beyond pissed now, totally annoyed, how can there be no communication, someone tell me whats going on???? The relations women came to the room (as I asked if I could wait in the room, as all the staff) were staring at me, and told me everything has been settled, they take me to the main lobby and guess who I see, Dr. Kelly sitting there on his Ipad, he didn’t say one word to me, how unproffesional! I get into the curtosy van provided by the hotel and guess who else I see! CeCe she asks if Im ok..uhm yha I am now but thanks for yet again your lack of communication and professionalism, we waited for a couple other people and went to the
Hotel- Lucerna the Hotel was I would say 4.5-5 star, was VERY modern, room service, more English channels, clean and we got free broth and jello, even chocolates, I went to the restaurant to eat my broth at one point and they bring over this big huge bowl of broth (way to much for one sitting) actually it would probably take you 7-15 sittings LOL! The broth was warm and tasty, felt good to get something in you! Dr. Kelly came to the hotel room, and asked if I had any questions, when asked about why I was unable to get released he said that there was an outstanding bill of 240.00 $ that he was trying to dispute as the hospital said that he used some tools that he needed to pay for, he told me that he ended up paying for it anyways..well then why make me wait if your going to end up paying for it anyways?? Driver called at 9:30 advising to be in the lobby at 11am, he was there on time and we left, crossed the border took us about 40 minutes to get back to San Diego, driver dropped us off and that was it!
Overall, clearly there are some opportunities for change and growth, I am thankful I had the surgery but am writing this review in hopes that they make some much needed changes, please listen to all your patience as this is your business and you should be able to hear our truths, I hope that this review will allow other people to make informed decisions
I decided to write this review to allow people to hear my truth and my story, this is my personal opinion about an experience that I endured, and it’s as honest as they come, when I asked the Doctor about something I seen on youtube (a video that was posted) he discredited the person by saying that the guy was crazy, I AM NOT! This is my opinion, and if you have any questions please email me at [email protected]
I will and am more than willing to discuss the events with you!
