You will find that my comments sound unbelieveably positive. They are. My negative experience with this surgery and with my doctor is very minimal consisting of the following: Immediately after my surgery I had to stay in the hospital for a week due to my hemoglobin levels being very low and was discouraged feeling that I might have made a mistake in having this surgery. I had laproscopic surgery and had trouble with one of the entry points leaking. Getting used to the new feeding process was uncomfortable, but time and patience and the right diet followup made it all worth it. I would recemmend to anyone to prepare for these feelings immediately after surgery and try to \"surf\" through it. Believe me, it is temporary. This is the beginning of the rest of your life and it will be a completely different one. Nothing will be the same.rnrnDr. Wilcox is a superior surgeon on a multitude of levels. He has compassion for people who are imprisoned by their excessive weight. He believes that he is changing lives and is very loyal to his patients. rnrnHis office staff is very kind, quick to respond and encouraging on every level, whether it be your physical progress or financial issues.rnrnOne thing I would tell people who are considering a surgeon for this life-changing surgery is to find someone who takes their time during the surgery, allows enough time between surgeries and makes sure you are ready to go home with a successful recovery. Dr. Wilcox and his staff do just this and he has been very attentive to any changes, even if not completely related to the bariatric process. It's as if I now have my own personal surgeon. I have had to have a hernia operation (not-related) since and Dr. Wilcox made sure that he took care of me. He know me and my history and is very protective.rnrnAnother important aspect to succes is the follow up care. Dr. Wilcox and his staff provide support in many areas: diet, exercise, pschycological, and peer support. They have bariatric coordinator who is quick to respond to any questions, a dietician on staff and exercise coordinators that we can be referred to. More than anything, I attribute all this to my great success of a 200 pound loss and I feel the healthiest I have ever been in my entire life.rnrnDr. Wilcox's office provides a wonderfully informative seminar that addresses honestly the risks of this surgery. There are people on hand who have gone through this surgery who can address the many questions people have.rnrnI highly, highly, highly recommend Dr. Wilcox and his partner Dr. Felix.rnrnI believe surgical competence AND beside manor AND great followup are the keys to success.

Dr. Wilcox is very nice, He is quick with his visits but very encouraging.rnThe Staff at Hope Biaratrics is very friendly and willing to help in anyway.rnI am not sure about the Dietician she was not readily availiable but does call you. I think they should have a better shopping list of what products to buy not items.rnI ended up buying the wrong vitamins and when I talked to the dietician she told me a place to call that had everything the recommended, why didin't they just put that in the recommendation!rnDr. Wilcox and his PA where great. Comforting and very knowledgeable.rn

The office staff at Hope Bariatrics is great!!! Dr. Wilcox has a very organized plan. After you attend one of the workshops to learn about WLS and Hope Bariatrics you then have an appointment with the doctor and dietician. You receive a binder that tells you step by step what needs to be done for insurance purposes and testing for the surgery. The staff took care of everything for my surgery. I just need to show up for my appointments. Dr. Wilcox and Carla each have a great bedside manner, very patient, and caring.rnThey emphasize after care greatly. It is explained to you that WLS is a lifetime commitment and they have a structured aftercare program to follow. The risks of surgery are covered during the seminar and again at your pre op visit. He freely discusses his successes and failures with you. The only issue that annoys me is sometimes he doesn't run on schedule for appointments. I would recommend and do recommend Dr. Wilcox and his staff to anyone. I am highly impressed with Hope Bariatrics.rn

My first impression was that he was a nice man, knowledgable in his field, and eager to answer questions and help.rnMy impression hasnt changed of him, I think hes a cool dude.rnI dont have any dislikes, he hasn't given me a reason to. rnHim and his staff are there when you call and have questions and they seem to be really concerned. We are focusing on aftercare right now.rnHe discussed the risk with me openly and honestly but didn't harp on them like so many others. I will give him a 9 out of 10,and heres why. I had my surgery on a friday and after the surgery he disappeared on me. He sent in some replacement doctor for the weekend to check on me. He knew absolutely nothing when I was asking him questions about what was to come of me now. This may not happen to you but it disturbed me and I had to get that out. His surgical competence and bedside manner are equal,I felt very comfortable with him, he went out to talk to my family after the surgery and reassured them that everything went well and that I was doing fine. It was important to me that my family be updated so he was on point with that and I do appreciate it. Overall I think this is a good place to have surgery, I like Dr. Wilcox, hes pretty laid back and easy to talk to like myself so thats always a good trait to me... I have been referring family and friend to his center and I highly recommend him to be your surgeon..You will be in good hands

My first impression of Dr Wilcox is wow he looks younger than the picture online.. : ) I first met him at a required seminar prior to your first appointment. I thought the seminar was very thorough and explained things very well. I also felt he answered my and everyone's questions very well. I got my first appointment very quickly, although his staff kept asking about did I have the required diet completed. I had to tell them several times that I didnt have a required diet for my insurance. Anyway the first visit was great and I found out all the information I need to know fromt he dietician. I then met with Dr Wilcox and found out about my required testing. He ansered all my questions and was even friendly with my 15 month old son. I eventually had my second appoint aprox 6 weeks later and got my surgery date. I feel the after care program is great at Dr Wilcox's office(hopebariatrics.com). He explained everything very well although I am a nurse and understood many risks prior to the surgery and even my appointments. I found his office staff to be friendly and very helpful. They responded very quickly to phone calls and emails about various questions duringthe process. I had a great surgical experience and no complications so far so I think hes as good as I heard he was A++++, I feel he has an okay bedside manner , just a typical surgeon but very friendly and did answer my questions...I would definitely recommend him to anyone!!! thanks

I met and spoke with Dr. Wilcox at a seminar that you must attend before your first appointment. He is a no nonsense straight forward Doctor. My first visit with Dr. Wilcox at his office was very short but his staff went over everything that I needed to know about what was going to happen once I had surgery. I am scheduled for a follow up visit on 2/16/06. My surgery is scheduled on 03/13/06. I selected Dr. Wilcox and Hope Bariactrics.com because of their reputation and the Hospital that they use (Sewickley Valley) and their follow up program that continues for your life after surgery .

I met and spoke with Dr. Wilcox at the seminar. We shared a few laughs and he even stayed after the meeting to talk to a few of us. I find him to be very nice.

The doctor is a no nonsense straight forward guy. I liked him he always asked me if I have any questions. He shares his office with 2 other bariatric surgeons Dr. Quinlin and Dr. Felix. They are very sensative to the needs of very over weight people. The office is all about making sure you are comfortable.
His staff is great! They are all friendly and really take an interest in your succes. So far I have'nt found anything negative and thats saying something for me!

my first thought was that Dr. Wilcox was very busy that day. Later as we met more often I realized that he just didn't have a good bedside manner. Don't get me wrong...he did a great job,but he does better when the patient is under anesthesia! The staff is very helpful and quick to answer any of my concerns.I am very happy with my decision to use Pittsburgh Bariatrics despite the little time my surgeon spends with me personally. I have had a great recovery and I'm pleased with everything so far!

The only complaint I have concerning Dr. Wilcox is he could have taken a little more time in the hospital while I was recovering.

The office staff is awesome! My surgery went smoothly, and I have great faith in him.
