Gayland Simms Bariatrics Bariatric Center
I had a VSG on 11-29-11 and had a very good experience, no problems. Dr. Sims office staff is great and even though he's very blunt, to the point, and lacks a little bedside manner I've been very happy with the care recieved. I'm a nurse so I know personality and lack of bedside manner doesn't mean he's a bad Dr. He has a new female partner if your looking for a more touchy feely kind of experience she would most likely fit the bill. Also Providence hospital in Waco rocks!
The staff is very educated about bariatric surgery, they give you a booklet with all the pre-op, post-op, nutrition, what to expect etc. and you attend a 1 hour nutrition class with the nutritonist then a 2 hour group meeting with a nurse which is a Q and A but all about nutrition also. I found them very informative. I had considered surgery 2 years earlier with another surgeon and hospital and didn't feel very informed, just had a gut feeling so I didn't have it.
I am very impressed with the Waco Bariatric Center as a whole. I heard good things about Dr. Sims on OH. Dr. Moffatt, the other surgeon, did my gallbladder removal. Dr. Sims has a structured aftercare program, which was my number one must. I've done so much research that I went into the process having most of my questions already answered. However, Dr. Sims and his staff did an excellent job with the seminar. I have to admit, though, the seminar is geared mostly toward LAP Band. I'm guessing it's because most people are more interested in LAP Band than bypass these days.
I researched many surgeons around TX and I found Dr. Simms to be the best choice for me. He is very professional, sensitive weight issues, and puts you at ease immediately. As I worked with him after surgery, his compassionate nature was overwhelmingly obvious. He always motivated and encouraged the smallest changes in habits, and never judged when there was a lapse. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is as I have transitioned into year 3 of post-surgery, his practice has grown leaps and bounds, so I get less time with him one on one. His staff is wonderful, though! I highly recommend Dr. Simms for any of your WLS needs.

My surgeon is Gayland Sims Md. I have met him twice so far. Once at a seminar and the other was at one of my Dr. appt. I have to say that he is very impressive so far. I will rate him more once I have my surgery. lol. I have done a lot of background check and am very confident that I am in good hands. His Staff, on the other hand, I have talked with every day. Two of which are my favorites, Tammy and Melissa. If I don't call them they call me just to make sure everything is fine. They have been so supportive with my journey. I could not ask for a better staff. I also really like his Dietitian. She is nice too. Oh and I met another lady briefly then I went for my appt. She was very concerned about my approval from insurance too. I probably see more of them once I have my surgery
