I'll be honest, when I first met Dr. Mandelbaum I was a little concerned about him being my surgeon because he seemed a bit...cold...for a lack of better words. I did a lot of research and talked to everyone I could and the response was overwhelming...Despite the fact that Dr. Mandelbaum doesn't seem like much of a "people person" he is THE BEST at what he does. I couldn't agree more with that opinion. Dr. Mandelbaum is a wonderful, highly skilled surgeon. He's pretty conservative, especially in terms of post-op care, but for me personally that was something I could appreciate. If you're looking for a rainbows and kittens doctor, Dr. Mandelbaum probably isn't the surgeon for you. He's definitely not one to sugar-coat anything, but again, I can really appreciate his honesty. I only met with him one time before the day of my surgery and I was completely comfortable with that-I knew I was in great hands. His bedside manner is nothing to brag about, but as far as surgical competence goes, he's fantastic. I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering weight loss surgery in the greater Indianapolis area.

Dr Mandelbaum comes across as a very nice and very professional man. He seems to be the stricter of the two doctors at Saint Francis which is why I chose him. Obviously being lax is what got me here in the first place. I don't need a friend but a straight talking honest person who will kick me in the butt if needed. He seems to fit the bill. He has a dry sense of humor that I just love as well. I have heard some say that he is too gruff but I think that may just be a difference in personality. He will not do anything he isn't comfortable in doing and he has to have confidence in you as well. rnHis staff is excellent! They never hesitate to answer even the smallest questions. The insurance coordinator is so fast and so honestly excited for you. Many of the staff have gone through surgery as well so it makes you feel very at ease. rnThe center really emphasizes aftercare and has a great program and many classes and support groups. I would give my experience so far a 10 out of 10. rnExcellent surgeon and excellent staff.

Dr. Mandelbaum was interested in helping our group to be successful. His reputation as a surgeon is very impressive.

I love my surgeon. Dr. Mandelbaum had done two previous surgeries on me - my gallbladder in January 2000 and a skin cancer on my left shoulder in August 2005. So, I had a history with him and liked him. He is no nonsense kind of guy. I like the fact that he doesn't take any chances with his patients. The staff at the St. Francis Weight Loss Center are very knowledgeable and helpful. They address all the risks of the surgery before your surgery and the structured aftercare program is very good. I have all the confidence in the world in Dr. mandelbaum and his staff. I think both his surgical competence and his bedside manner are great!

My initial consultation was scheduled for Oct.14, with Doctor Mandelbaum, but about an hour before I was to leave, I got a phone call from his office telling me that he had to leave for emergency surgery.
So not only was I dissapointed, I was now thinking OMG, emergency surgery, for what and why? Was there a problem with a bariatric patient...? I always have all kinds of thoughts running through my head.

I finally got to go 2 weeks later. There was a group of about 8 of us. He had a slideshow, and I was very impressed with his presentation.

I had already "decided" in my mind that he was the absolute best, based on several of his past patents opinions and testimony. Regardless, I wanted to believe that he was the very best no matter what, for my own comfort, he had to be the best, because he would be my surgeon, of course!

He seemed to be very down to earth, and very personable. He presented all of the procs and cons, and went into depth about all of the possible complications. I gotta tell you, the word "blood clot" seemed like it was blinking in 3-D on the screen. Now that is terrifying!

My overall opinion of Dr. Maundelbaum was very positive.

Very direct and to the point, comfortable to speak with and reasurring knowing his capabilities.

He is very nice. He is straight to the point no funny stuff. His office staff is GREAT if you have any questions they will help you. Just be sure to ask any and all questions you can think of . After care is a MUST you do check ups for 5 years to be sure things are still fine which I liked that alot. He made sure that I new the risks and just to let you know there have NOT be any DEATHS with his group and I REALLY LIKED THAT. my rate would be a 10 HE's GREAT . DAWN

DR. Mandelbaum was great from day one. Very personable,informative, and his staff teach you everything from start to finish. Plus they give you a note binder that walks you thru your journal step by step. They are always there for questions.

I truly enjoyed meeting him, he knew exactly where I was coming from and was very professional.
