He was awesome. I do wish that i seen more of him insted of his assistants. The staff was awesome as well. The care was the best i had in any hospital. Dont be scared to go to mexico and get your surgery done with this doctor......he is the real deal....no complications....

I found Dr. Joya friendly yet not overly so. He is business-like and does not have an overtly friendly bedside manner. I was ok with that as I perfer a professional manner in physicians.rnrnHe appeared confident and ready to answer any questions. rnrnHis staff is very good, caring and ready to assist in your recovery in any way. rnrnImmediate aftercare is handled by an associate that assisted in surgery and longterm care is in written instructions and your primary care physician.rnrnAll risks were addressed in writing.rnrnSurgical technique was excellent.rnrnSurgical technique was great and I would seek his services again.

Dr. Joya and his team were great. He answered all my questions and even has a doctor on his team check on you each day at the hotel you recover at. I would recommend him to anyone although the medicine style in the hospital is a little old school.

hospital was clean. rnsurgery went well.rnDr. Joya spoke good English and answered any questions we asked. Could have spent more time explaining what was going to happen that day instead of sitting and waiting for who knows what, but it all worked out.rnPost-op checks the following days @ the hospital were nice, but disappointed when they said they'd bring pain killers, but never did, then they finally said we would have to go to the hospital and buy them after spending all day waiting to have them brought to us as told, and didn't have time before catching our flight.

I had a RNY with Dr Joya on 1-16-06 and I am very pleased with him, his staff and my results! I went to him a very miserable girl of 410 pounds. The whole process was made very easy by his staff. I had many questions before I left and his assistants were very patient with me and answered all of my phone calls and e-mails. rn He was very thorough-- sending a detailed questionaire about my health situation and alot of imformation on aftercare and nutrition. rn He was very caring-- sensing I was a bit nervous right before the procedure, he held my hand reassured me I would be fine. My husband waited in my hospital room, and Dr Joya came right down as soon as he was finished and told him I came through just great. rn The best part was that I knew he was available 24 hours a day. After I was discharged from the hospital, we were told we could call his personal cell phone any time if there were any problems. I didn't need to, but I'd heard from other patients that he comes right away. rn Obviously, aftercare is hard for him because he's so far away, but he gives you so much information and I feel I can call him any time even now. I just recently had an appointment with my doctor up here and he was BLOWN AWAY by my results and he wants to tell his other patients about Dr Joya too! rn In just over 8 months, I've lost 150 pounds and feel great! I'd like to lose another 100 but I know it'll be a little slower now. I'm losing inches as I exercise three times a week and I feel really healthy for the first time in a very long time! rn I can't wait to go visit PV again and give Dr Joya a big hug for saving my life!

My experience with Dr Joya and his staff was wonderful. They were very professional, helpful, caring and concerned. I was very happy with their level of service.rnrnI would recommend Dr Joya to anyone who asked me. rnrnI know some of their procedures seemed a bit 'outdated' but were perfectly acceptable to me. For instance, they did not have the latest 'gizmo' to take my blood pressure, but had the normal 'cuff' that did the job. rnrnI would rather they conserve on unnecessary (to me) hardware and concentrate on the surgery and recovery process. I think they do an excellent job in both areas.

I had lap RNY on July 13th, 2006. I went by myself and thought I was fine, but when I got to the hospital I just freaked out. Dr. Joya, his staff and the hospital staff were just wonderful. They went and got other patients that had had the surgery a day or two before me, and did everything to make me feel comfortable. From the minute Dr. Joya touched my hand, the energy that I felt from him, I knew everything was going to be fine, and that I had made the right decision. He is a very gentle, caring man and I could feel that he really cares and takes pride in his surgeries. I would have never gotten such great medical care here! I was seen everyday for 11 days by a doctor! Every question was answered, and I asked alot of them! It was a great experience both at the hospital and at the hotel! I would highly recommend Dr. Joya to anyone, and no one was a bigger skeptic then I was. I had a friend that went to Dr. Joya 2 years ago and raved about him. I told her she was crazy, but after all my research, and meetings with the doctors here, I felt most comfortable with him, and at the end, it wasn't just about price. He has done more proceedures then any of the doctors around here, and has the same or less complications or % of complications, not to mention his success of using the laproscopic proceedure was much higher. In Baltimore, we have some very prestigious surgeons, but Dr. Joya's overall numbers were better. I am a CPA, so numbers mean something to me. Overall, I would rate him A+++. All the preop questions were handled by Gerald, who very patiently answered every question very promptly. Surgical competence & bedside manner were both great.rnrnAlthough I haven't really had any major problems, I think there could be a little better aftercare program. They just hand you a booklet explaining everything and tell you to get in a support group. That could be improved a little better, but still now if I have a question, I just call or email and someone promptly responds, so I guess I can't really complain!

I was very satisfied with the whole experience and would recommend Dr Joya to anyone contemplating lap band surgery. His staff is professional, the hospital is clean and efficient. I am an RN so I speak with experience in those areas. There was minimal pain and that was controlled with pain meds. His patient coordinator, Gerald, told me everything I needed to know pre surgery and his assistant Nathalie took care of everything from the airport on arrival til my departure. The day of my surgery while I was recovering there was noisy construction outside my window that just kept on and on. I was at \"wits end\" with it. I asked the nurse to do something about it. She didn't understand me but she could tell I was highly upset. Within minutes Nathalie appeared. I'm sure the nurse called her but, honestly, she was there in 10 minutes, talked to the construction guys and was able to calm me down. Just an example of how far these folks go to insure your comfort. I was also impressed that when I booked surgery Gerald told me not to smoke another cigarette. He also instructed me to do lung exercises before surgery to insure I didn't have complications. American docs don't do that, do they? They never mention that smoking could cause complications during surgery. rnThe only negative thing about my experience in Mexico had nothing to do with the surgery. It was the extremely hard beds at the hotel.

My experience with Dr. Joya was fabulous. I was given better care by his staff and the hospital than I ever received in the states. I met Dr. Joya in person an hour before my surgery and he was friendly curtious and careing. The facilities were super clean. I had a problem with my IV I kept busting my vein and had to have the IV restarted 3 times which hurt. But other than than everthing was top notch. They always listened to me when I had a concern. They even gave me more information than I could think of to ask for. There was some communcation gaps with some of the nursing staff, but they always did their best to get you what you were after.

I had my lap band surgery May11, 2005. I was very happy with Dr. Joya, his staff and the hospital. I was a little worried about having surgery and going to Mexico to have it but when all was said and done everything went perfect! The trip ended up being more of a vacation for my husband and I. We had a wonderful time at the Krystal.rnI was 272 before my pre-op diet. Today I am 205! I follow all the lap-band rules and everything has really gone smooth. Again Dr.Joya and staff were the very best and I would do this again in a heart beat. Best of luck to all.
