Community Bariatric Surgeons Bariatric Center
I refer to Dr. Jones as my Angel. I had my surgery on May 13, 2005, and other than a painful gas bubble for several hours after surgery, I have been virtually pain-free. She promised me that I would not have a lot of pain and she kept her promise. I stopped all pain medicine three days after surgery and I have not had even a single aspirin since. I am amazed that I could have major surgery with only minor discomfort.
I have listened to a lot of other patients speak about their surgeons and based upon their stories and my experience, I cannot imagine someone using anyone else other than Dr. Jones. Her experience, her gentle touch and her caring nature are above and beyond all the rest.
I realize that I have a huge mountain yet to climb but Dr. Jones has prepared me to climb that mountain.
My husband and I both feel she is a very surgeon as well as a great person. That feeling never changed, although her partners have dropped the ball on numerous occasions where communication is concerned.
I would recommend here wholeheartedly, however it is (of course) my only experience with this type of surgeon. I did, however, drive for 2.5 hours from my home to the hospital, so that will give you a little idea of how much I believed in their system/hospital.
I have cancelled my appointment with Dr. Jack Ditslear of Clarian's WLS. I had a bad experience pre-consultation with his office people--not receiving the consultation packet until 1 day before appointment when scheduled 2 weeks prior--and that's only because I called asking where it was. It didn't give me much confidence in his practice. Who knows? Maybe he's excellent, but he needs to check in on his office help.
I've scheduled a consultation with Dr. RoseMarie Jones at St. Vincent's for 2/16/2005. She is the surgeon that my cousin had for his WLS. He only has praise for her.
My first impression of Dr. Jones is that she is a very beautiful, happy, smiley person with a lot of confidence in herself. After talking with her, I thought about how kind and caring she is. Right before surgery, she talked with me. I told her that I was nervous and scared. She held both of my hands and told me that my feelings were very normal and said, "You know I will take good care of you". I felt so at ease with those words and her radiating confidence. I was very impressed with Dr. Jones! I think she is the best surgeon and a wonderful human being! Both her surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent!
The hospital staff and the staff at St. Vincent Bariatric Weight Loss Center of Excellence explained in detail the risks associated with WLS. Dr. Jones asked me if I needed any of that information repeated or explained further on the day of surgery at the hospital. Her staff in her Doctor's office didn't seem to be overly kind and friendly, but I would say that they are very busy. They were respectful and courteous to patients.
Dr. Jones greatly emphasizes aftercare and stresses the importance of it in regards to long-term weight loss success. Her aftercare program is with St. Vincent Bariatric Weight Loss Center of Excellence in Carmel IN, which is one floor under her office in the hospital. It's a great program. I can see the Nutritionist and participate in any aftercare classes free for the rest of my life. I think that is awesome!

She was very knowledgeable and nice. My impression didn't change. Office Staff ok for the most part. Didn't like her Insurance person. She was very supportive throughout the process. Extremely supportive at my plateaus. Her office also offered groups, emailed my before and after pictures to me for support and regularly checked up on me for progress.
She was very kind and caring, and compared bariatric surgery to a tumor by saying, "If you have a tumor and you have two treatment options, one is to get it removed by surgery or two to have 6 mos of chemotherapy, would people consider you to be taking the easy way out if you choose to have the surgery?" I thought this was a fabulous example, and impressed me right away.
Yes the visit was brief, but very thorough, and she was compassionate. I can see why she is the best around. Her job is to help as many of us as possible, not become personal friends with each one of us. I am very pleased with her.
POST-OP:
Still great, and though I did have a complication it was not her fault. It was the preventive lovenox she gives to prevent blood clots that made me keep bleeding slowly after she closed-up. I am just glad that she and Dr. Gupta were competent enough to know they needed to take me back to surgery again. No surgeon can guarantee you will not have a complication. And not all surgeons are competent enough to recognize when you are in trouble early enough to safe your life.
She explained in layman's terms that were easy to understand. I had asked a man who his surgeon was so I asked for her. I have since heard very good things about her. The information is clear and concise. They do not make you feel inferior. The paperwork was handled just as I was told in the firt consult. She really read my whole history and requested I see a pulmonologist before the surgery since I had stated I had blood clots from birth control pills in the late 60's. That made me feel she is very thorough and careful. She will have me in after care for 1 year at least and has advised me to converse often with fellow wt loss surgery patients online or in my home town. She alerted us to the risks associated with this surgery but just living as a morbidly obese person is a risk. The surgery is worth taking in my circumstance. Surgical competence is more important regarding the surgeon as I think the hospital staff will be the ones most caring for me following surgery.
